Jeez, Farage is on Sky just now (at the Reform manifesto launch I assume) proclaiming himself at the LOTO in waiting...

However against him I am, I can see how he would really appeal to a certain type of person, he's very persuasive, if you want to be persuaded in that way...

Trump, Johnson, they all have their fans

I don't think he's persuasive or particularly articulate. He's simply saying what some people want to hear - and absolving them of any responsibility. Giving people someone else to blame - immigrants, Europeans, old people, young people - is a winning tactic.
And it helps when you've got a television station fronted by Andrew Neil and countless desperate MPs pumping out opinion pieces 24x7.

Ah I saw a tweet with charts from this. Voting intent based on what channel most watched.

GB news the outlier with overwhelming support for Reform . Itv viewers far more likely to vote Labour than BBC

Westminster Voting Intention, By Media Consumption (7-10 June)

British voters’ media consumption habits have changed massively in the three decades since The Sun declared, in the aftermath of the 1992 General Election, “It’s The Sun Wot Won It.”

Paul Marshall has invested more than £40 + million in GB News. More in UnHerd. They aren't making him money.

So the only reason to do it is to influence voters and politicians.

If Reform merges with the Conservative Party it will be thanks to Marshall and friends, not Farage.

Bim Afolami freaks me right out. He just doesn't seem genuine, I can almost sense the naked ambition pouring off him..and he keeps getting sent out to defend the indefensible.
Him and the shaved Afghan Chris Philp (love "the week in Tory" insults)

Hopefully he'll be beaten by my lovely ex MP, Alistair Strathern.

And just to add, I'm not happy with it all being labelled "Women's Rights". Women's rights is far bigger than that and have been eroded by the right wing. So don't assume that because we are not all ditching the labour party for their view on trans that we don't believe in women's rights. I can't see how a Tory vote helps women's rights but I know others disagree.

This is such a helpful series of threads for keeping informed and there's general consensus on so many issues. We have "more in common".

👏👏👏👏

Woman's rights isn't 1 single issue.

It's not about rights either - spot on.

It's about how decisions are made in the wider context and the detrimental affect they have on woman as a whole.

We've suffered them for over a decade.

The biggest one that seems to crop up most is how woman's gynae care has been affected by the erosion of the NHs and the effect this has on woman being active members of the workforce and therefore net contributors.

Totally agree. Just got in after a tiring week of teaching (so grouchy - although my “treat” is to leave on the bell on Friday).

This government has created individualism at a heightened level - no one can see beyond their own personal circumstances, there’s so much blindness to the wider society.

DeadButDelicious · 14/06/2024 18:07

I just don't see how anyone can look at this government and think they give the tiniest bit of a shit about women. I get the strength of feeling about the trans issue but voting for a government who has routinely fucked women over with their policies, never mind what they've done to the country, purely because they happen to agree on this one particular subject, is just baffling to me. The tories have decimated this country and will continue to do so if given 5 more years. That to me is a much more frightening prospect.

dontcallmelen · 14/06/2024 18:55

Thank you so many really good posts on here today, unfortunately womens gynae care has consisted of far to many womens health issues dismissed & having to fight for symptoms etc to be taken even remotely seriously, maternity care in many many places in the country is woeful & downright dangerous in some areas, I’m sure if it was men birthing babies this really wouldn’t be the case.
MrsMurphy so agree with the the last paragraph of your post, you see it on MN all the time how some cannot comprehend how some have to live their lives the struggle with housing/paying bills the worry of just trying to exist.

Zonder · 14/06/2024 19:02

Did anyone see the Reform "party political broadcast" just now? I'm stunned!

Jason118 · 14/06/2024 19:06

Just watched it, very illuminating!

Zonder · 14/06/2024 19:07

Surely that's going to put people off?

Jason118 · 14/06/2024 19:08

It didn't say anything at all did it?

DuncinToffee · 14/06/2024 19:12

What was it about?

I am watching the football on ITV.

Simple messages win votes. Just remember “take back control” and “stop the boats” - in this age of short attention spans this sort of thing works.

DuncinToffee · 14/06/2024 19:25

And who broke it with his Brexit dream?

Nice and cheap too!

Right going to tune into Germany v Scotland in a moment to take my off everything.

Tried to watch USA v Ireland in the T20 cricket World Cup this afternoon but it was called off without a ball bowled due to rain! In Florida!! I mean what is the point if Florida can't even manage nice weather!!! Grin

That's probably the only Tory poster put up anywhere in the entire country as well.

Zonder · 14/06/2024 20:16

Nice and cheap too!

Probably the deciding factor. Chris Mason pointed out on the news earlier that at some Frage speech he was at the lectern was ancient and the party logo was stuck on with tape.
