Who can trust anything he says? He's a man who, last week, publicly announced that he would do the exact opposite of what he is doing this week.

That’s politicians for you. 🤷‍♀️

Notonthestairs · 04/06/2024 08:52

I think the election got a whole lot more boring to me.

Farage will say anything. His policy promises are meaningless. Like the Rwanda plan but in every area of our lives. Zero migration. Zero waiting lists. Maximum fossil fuels. Public floggings. An annual royal wedding (doesn't matter who). Daily bin collections. Something about the French. Brexit unicorns. Trade deal with America for chlorinated chicken.
Ban the BBC. And then a whole heap of racism.

Politics for people who aren't interested details. Great material for headlines & podcasts. No practical application.

Armando Iannucci

Those asking if ‘The Thick of It’ is writing this election may want to note that today’s Tory immigration plan -shunt it off to an independent body to decide, so ministers can avoid talking specifics in interviews- is the main plot of 2007’s special ‘The Rise of the Nutters.’

Ooh according to the calculus, my ward is kind puppies & the new seat 97% chance of going Labour, the majority of wards in the new seat apart from mine & one other have had a Tory MP for the last seventy years.

It's too much for me, having a red bus with "Change" on it reminding me of Leave and frogface all over the place. I'm feeling like I've fallen into a wormhole.

Lib Dems are offering free personal care for elderly - will hugely boost the almost non-existent social care currently on offer, which I like the sound of https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjmmww3ne8wo

Generic photo of an elderly man's hands holding stick

Liberal Democrats pledge free personal care

The party wants to tackle the shortage of workers by introducing a carer's minimum wage, at £2 above the standard.

It will also save the NHS money, so actually won't cost as much as one might imagine, or allow the NHS to concentrate on being a health service rather than a care service.

"Lib Dems are offering free personal care for elderly - will hugely boost the almost non-existent social care currently on offer, which I like the sound of www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjmmww3ne8wo"

Yes, I'd be in favour of this. Preventive care as well as reactive is what is needed.

Just sharing this from IFS -

I thought it was very interesting to see how not just Brexit influenced investment levels but the political mismanagement also.

Summary thread from IFS for those on Twitter.

I still can't believe we didn't arrest and imprison the bankers like Rishi who stole from the taxpayer. Imagine, frogface gone, Rishi gone - the world would have looked very different.

😂😂😂

LittleBowSheep · 04/06/2024 09:56

This election campaign was bad enough before frog-face decided to join in. He's now going to monopolise everything just to get the publicity.

And weve still got a month to go.

pointythings · 04/06/2024 09:58

Can we please stop calling him frog face? Despite the unfortunate resemblance, we need to consider the feelings of the millions of frogs in the UK, who are both blameless and adorable, and would never vote for him.

Is it a trial worth suffering if the main thing is GTFTO?

EXC: Trio of senior Tory donors (who’ve donated £5m+ to party) rule out funding Sunak’s election campaign

In striking move, the donors organised their own private polling, mistrustful of Tory campaign figures’ claims that the situ was not as bad as public polling suggests

But their private survey aligned with the public polling, indicating the Tories are facing electoral rout

Sunak met with more than 10 ‘big whale’ donors over dinner at a London hotel last Monday, but at least one has ruled out any additional donations for the campaign

PM and Cabinet will attend the Tory summer party on June 20 and hope to raise major sums there

"big whale"?

BIossomtoes · 04/06/2024 10:50

Maybe Rish! should put his money where his mouth is like Hunt has.

Hhhmmm

Article intended to cause trouble??

The donors would invest in campaigns by Braverman, Jenrick & Patel.

They want the party to push further right.

Would they? We don’t know who those donors are or why they’ve backed out. I suspect it might be because they don’t want to throw money away on backing a loser.

Is Philip Pullman’s ‘bollock faced foghorn of ignorance’ ok?

Yes, that's quite simply beautiful.
