https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/politics/rishi-sunak-came-wales-no-29226300

Invited media were told to arrive at noon with a list of rules spelled out. No photography or video – that will come from Number 10. No live reporting. No mention of the visit until the PM has left (although his other two stops in Derbyshire and Scotland were heavily trailed). No questions about national issues.

Rishi Sunak came to Wales but no voters would actually have known

Terrible memes, football gaffes, and a visit to a brewery for a teetotal Prime Minister. All in a day's work

No accountability.

I’m probably being really stupid here but what’s the point of restoring the Whip to Hancock and Stewart?

L1ttledrummergirl · 23/05/2024 19:47

I'm not going to lie, but the tone from some of the GC posters is disgraceful and although I've reported, mnet has left them stand. It's disappointing that they seem to have lost the balance that they were aiming for and the safe space for women to discuss all of the issues that concern us.

I'm happy to discuss, and debate but the same lies, hyperbole and scare tactics being repeated parrot fashion with no depth to them give you nothing to debate with, but leaving them unchallenged feels wrong. The posters repeating them over and over in an attempt to scare people away from labour appear to have no grasp of the situation. It reminds me of when the school kids wanted Friday afternoons off school to protest "for the environment". They had no specific aims, no idea of what they wanted to achieve and a bad habit of leaving McDonald's rubbish behind them.

This country has bigger issues and I really hope (and believe) that most people want better than what we have now. I also hope that our faith in Starmers Labour Party is not misplaced, but, we won't know until we give them a chance and they would be hard pressed to do worse than the last 10 years.

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/05/2024 19:59

Some of the MN GC do seem to debate in a way that seems to be self defeating and makes you feel inclined to disagree with them.

I can’t find which thread it was on now, but there was the most random drive by ‘bet they know what a woman is’ type comment on a thread earlier this week. It wasn’t a politics thread, or a thread about trans/GC issues or where anyone had even come close to moving onto that topic. It was really odd.

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/05/2024 20:04

I don’t think it’s just the country that has bigger issues. I think most women have bigger issues in terms of both safety and equality.

Which is why I will never manage to understand those who plan to vote Tory on this issue. Spoiling your vote is at least understandable.

AdamRyan · 23/05/2024 20:10

So much for my hopes. It was obviously a 48 hr regroup.
Oh well. Only 6 weeks to go

BIossomtoes · 23/05/2024 20:13

I don’t think that thread’s that bad. It’s way more balanced than they usually are.

They needed time to come up with new names Wink

I am finding the how old do you think Starmer is thread mildly innocently diverting.

"I’m probably being really stupid here but what’s the point of restoring the Whip to Hancock and Stewart?"

I guess the goodwill gesture is they will finish their political careers as Conservative MPs. I can't imagine they'd want them to go out campaign so maybe it's altruistic?!

DuncinToffee · 23/05/2024 20:28

Another one stands down, Sir Michael Ells, Northampton North

Is there a list somewhere?

OP posts:
RafaistheKingofClay · 23/05/2024 20:37

I’m sure there must be a list somewhere.

meanwhile there’s a general election 2024 section. Presumably HQ got this one in before all the threads complaining about all the election threads.

There was a thread in Site Stuff asking for it. Personally, I think the Politics section was enough, but hey…

BIossomtoes · 23/05/2024 17:55

They’ll probably skip the vetting.

Given who they have had this parliament is there any evidence there is vetting?

I guess otherwise they would run as independents and split the right wing loon vote and so let a centrist in to win.

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/05/2024 21:11

Are they even running?

Thingscanonlygetsunk · 23/05/2024 21:23

RafaistheKingofClay · 23/05/2024 21:11

I think I was probably forgetting that they are standing down.

Evenstar · 23/05/2024 21:27

Seeing suggestions on Twitter that Stewart and Hancock may qualify for some extra money from the party if they hold the whip when they stand down. Might provide an incentive for them to keep quiet about anything embarrassing they could divulge before the election.

This is a nice thread about Keir Starmer

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1793727207732613549.html

I get the impression that Keir is a fundamentally decent person. He might be a bit dull but honestly that’s what our politics needs.

Edited

Being led by a fundamentally decent person will be a change.

TheABC · 23/05/2024 21:44

Rishi is like a reverse Midas: everything he touches turns to dross.

I'm GC but it comes behind a functioning NHS, working schols, drinkable water and an army to defend us. I want the Tories out* and I will campaign to ensure women's safety in the meantime. The Scotland High Court case in the autumn will explode this issue one way or another.

*although the mostly likely winners in my area are the Lib Dems who are fully paid up crazed mysiogynists, so this really hurts.
