The Telegraph might support Sunak but I imagine they are doing it through gritted teeth.

Can’t believe they’ve used the rain clips in this campaign video.

The Telegraph might support Sunak but I imagine they are doing it through gritted teeth.

It's worth remembering that Sunak wasn't put in place by a popular vote of the party.

Something I hope every interviewer points out in every interview.

"So, Mr. Sunak. Considering you can't even claim a majority of your party support you, why should you expect a majority of the country will ?"

Only that will never happen. Project Tory Election 2024 will have some standing rules and one is that Sunak must on no account be exposed to:

Tory MPs
Journalists
The public

Maybe hoping for a pity shag vote

They've missed a trick not using the Watership Down music if so...

Notonthestairs · 23/05/2024 09:20

Cons will be hugely relieved that Farage isn't standing.

DuncinToffee · 23/05/2024 09:20

Farage is going to focus on the US elections instead of fronting Reform

Sunk has confirmed no Rwanda flights before the election.

We knew it would never happen. All that money down the toilet just to appease racists.

But it didn't appease them, did it ? It merely enraged them more.

Racists are the ones who wanted the Royal Navy to shoot the dingies and film the people drowning "just to be sure". Presumably getting extra points for babies and children.

IClaudine · 23/05/2024 09:38

You are right. I should have said an attempt to appease the racists.

Mine:

  1. My MP, Werrity sniffer Liam
  2. Braverman
  3. Grease-Smug
  4. Shetland pony of the apocalypse Patel
  5. Lee Anderthal
  6. Sunak Himself
  7. Govey Govey Govey
  8. Jenrick
  9. Badenoch
  10. Cates

Bonus points if Kellie Jay Keen loses her deposit, and if Reform take a huge vote share off the Tories but manage not to get any MPs.

Plus, lest we should forget:

I would like to put a bid in for the Honorable Member for Moscow, Riyadh and now also according to my newspaper Rabat, who having been paid to go on a jolly to Morocco has found a sudden interest in asking questions about Morocco in parliament.
True to form though he is deeply upset that a newspaper has had the temerity to ask him questions about it and has tried to bully them.

Daniel K also famed in his constituency for his lack of knowledge about lemons. #dklemon

There was a chap on radio 4 this morning being interviewed (bit tetchy, didn't catch his name) who was saying that inflation was down and that wages were rising.
I am sure we were being told last year that increasing wages would lead to inflation?
Or was that some other kind of wages? Or perhaps only in odd numbered years?

newnamethanks · 23/05/2024 09:52

"Shetland pony of the apocalypse Patel'. Perfect.

SerendipityJane · 23/05/2024 09:53

And the Truss mortgage tax is still ongoing and earing up peoples money.

In fact a demonstrably "improving" economy is even worse for the Tories as Emma Barnett demonstrated yesterday. It just leads to a "oh really ?" pushback from the real world.

The reporting seems to be that something spooked Sunak Tuesday night.

Definitely the wrong kind of wage rises. Bung to MPs in form of wage rise, not at all inflationary. All other wage rises, massively inflationary.

prettybird · 23/05/2024 10:05

Sunak: ""I believe very strongly in the traditions of our country. And when prime ministers make important statements like that, they do it on the steps of Downing Street come rain or shine."

As one of the guys on Sky News Press Preview said night (I think it was the lady from the FT rather than Kevin Maguire), "We also have a tradition in this country of using umbrellas." Confused

newnamethanks · 23/05/2024 10:07

I am shamefully cackling away to myself like Madame Defarge preparing for a headcount. I don't drink so won't be celebrating in the traditional way on 5 July. I'm going to buy some wool instead. Vive les tricoteuses.

Immigration figures are in

https://x.com/EdConwaySky/status/1793567095038640365

Hard to overstate how dramatic the shift in UK immigration has been since the post-Brexit rules came into force.
Non-EU immigration is now higher than ever before, running at well over a million a year.
EU immigration lower than it’s been for decades.
Figs just in from ONS
