Is once a month sufficient? Family of 3. Loo is cleaned weekly.

Questions:

Why is cleaning shit always a woman's job?

Why does it somehow reflect badly on her if a toilet looks like it's been used?

What do people think bleach does, and why do they think toilets require them?

How often do these frequent bleachers clean their phone, remote control etc?

Would you tip a whole bottle of bleach in a river? If not, why tip it in your toilet when there are perfectly good eco cleaners?

Our toilet gets cleaned probably weekly, more often if needed, less often if I can't be arsed.

Houses cannot be sterile ladies, you're wasting your lives in a vain attempt to eradicate bacteria.

100% this.

again people can do what they want

How fucking depressing this horrible attitude is.

Cleaner cleans it fully once a week. I then clean loo as needed and sink once or twice in the intervening period.

This. When we didn't have a cleaner it was still done once a week. I think once a month would get ..... sticky?

Weekly main clean so floor mopped, all surfaces cleaned etc. In-between I try to clean the loos every two or three days. Same for the bathroom basin thanks to the toothpaste goblin here! I personally find the longer you leave it the more stubborn the cleaning is when you get round to it especially things like showers, etc.

As for the bleach debate; do people not realise that what goes down your toilet eventually goes through a chlorinfication stage at the sewage treatment plant? Yep bleach basically. I'm not overly concerned about germs but I still feel compelled to pour bleach over them. I put bleach down both loos yesterday morning. Not been done over the weekend since Thursday. Felt like a good germ kill score with both loos. I sometimes quite like that power thing. It's like five minutes ago there were probably a few million germs and I have now killed them all. All gone. Dead. Well 99.9% anyway.

i'm interested in all this bleaching - does it actually clean anything, or just make it look white? Does it actually remove an actual skidmark, or just make it look white and blend in with the toilet.

All the pp who mentioned people peeing on the seat etc. I have a nice German word for you - Sitzpinkler. Encourage everyone to sit when they pee. Its great, apparently (i have girls and a DH who doesn't miss so i have no idea)

What do you use to de-soap-scum/de-limescale tiles in a shower? i use elbow grease and it's annoying (high limescale area, and we use bars of soap rather than the easier dissolving shower gel)

I read once about how people in Japan give the toilet a quick wipe with antibacterial spray every time they use it, and have done that for years. It's bril.

As for cleaning: good clean once a week, on Sunday, before my shower. Use the old towels to wipe mirror, floor and anything that needs a dry wipe after I've cleaned. I scrub the limescale off the shower taps while i'm in the shower as it's easier.

There is only me here and I clean the bathroom when I can be bothered, so it might be every couple of weeks, or every couple of months. I'm rarely ill, and when I am it's nothing to do with my bathroom.

Clean it as little or as often as you like OP, it's your bathroom.

What's with all these 1950s style competitve cleaning stories on MN?

Cleaning your bathroom once or twice a week isn't competitive cleaning.

Cleaning your bathroom every couple of months if that's what you want to do is fine.

That's gross to me but I don't think my once a week deep clean or daily wipe down is crazy. You might think I'm over the top.

It's just me and ds but I still like it clean.

crumbpet · 08/05/2024 20:18

Thank you all. I'm negotiating a cleaning schedule with DH. I'm going to go for every other week big clean. Every 2/3 days for the loo and sink.

What do you do with all the tiles?

What goes down your toilet eventually gets bleached in the chlorinfication stage at the treatment plant though.

Seasidesavvy · 08/05/2024 21:55

I live with 4 teens, I have to clean bathroom every time I go into it!
seriously though, end of the day as I’m cleaning teeth and washing face I spray of bath, sink and shower with cleaner and pop bleach down the loo and then scrub and rinse off shower, sink and bath after I have finished cleaning teeth.
dust and mop maybe twice a week on top of that.

What does everyone clean their bathroom floors with? hides bleach

sugarbyebye · 08/05/2024 22:56

Toilet is cleaned after a shit, basin rinsed after a toothbrush, cleaner does the rest every fortnight. We don't own any bleach, it ruins your micro biome.
