Is once a month sufficient? Family of 3. Loo is cleaned weekly.

Daily - I am so glad I don't have to use some people's bathrooms!!

Depends though doesn't it?

I would happily let anyone use my bathroom even though technically it's cleaned less than once a week
I don't leave skid marks, splash soap or toothpaste around the sink or anything like that!
Stuff like using a daily shower spray, wiping up any spills as I go, washing hands carefully means it always stays clean

Flossflower · 08/05/2024 04:27

There are 2 of us. We have 2 bathrooms and a downstairs loo. They get cleaned weekly unless they look bad in between, However, we both clean the bath and shower after we have used them.

I'm intrigued to know why you need the toilet to be cleaned before shopping deliveries - I've never had a delivery driver ask to use the loo.

I have once and I hadn't cleaned the toilet beforehand and was a bit embarrassed but I have never seen her again.

MumChp · 08/05/2024 04:46

Loo and sink - often.
Floor and shower - then needed.

Doingmybest12 · 08/05/2024 04:51

As we go along, depends what needs wiping or cleaning. Then a big clean as in everything done all at once when I can be bothered. Extra check and possible clean before visitors.

Daily: scrubbing sink, wash out bath/shower and bleach toilet
weekly: Mop floor and scrub toilet

Same here!

Violinist64 · 08/05/2024 05:13

A thorough clean weekly but bath has a quick swish round after each use. The sink is cleaned if it looks grubby in-between. Toilet Duck is used almost daily as l like to freshen the pan after a number two. Every three weeks for a family of three is very unhygienic.

Josette77 · 08/05/2024 05:16

Surfaces once a day.
Deep clean once a week.

nothingsforgotten · 08/05/2024 05:32

There is only me here and I clean the bathroom when I can be bothered, so it might be every couple of weeks, or every couple of months. I'm rarely ill, and when I am it's nothing to do with my bathroom.

Clean it as little or as often as you like OP, it's your bathroom.

What's with all these 1950s style competitve cleaning stories on MN?

grinandslothit · 08/05/2024 05:35

I live alone so I clean it once a week.

HelpMeGetThrough · 08/05/2024 05:44

Every day. Shower, toilet, basin, floor, etc. But I'm immuno compromised, so it has to be done. Same with the kitchen.

If I wasn't, the shower and toilet would be done daily and that's it.

Daily: scrubbing sink, wash out bath/shower and bleach toilet
weekly: Mop floor and scrub toilet

Same here, for both bathrooms. Tiles in shower get a good descaling every couple of weeks.

PonkyPonky · 08/05/2024 07:41

Deep clean every week. It starts to look grim about halfway through the week so gets a midweek once over. Shower is squeegeed and wiped after every use though as very hard water here and I will not let it win!

Goingasteady30 · 08/05/2024 07:41

Weekly main clean so floor mopped, all surfaces cleaned etc. In-between I try to clean the loos every two or three days. Same for the bathroom basin thanks to the toothpaste goblin here! I personally find the longer you leave it the more stubborn the cleaning is when you get round to it especially things like showers, etc.

As for the bleach debate; do people not realise that what goes down your toilet eventually goes through a chlorinfication stage at the sewage treatment plant? Yep bleach basically. I'm not overly concerned about germs but I still feel compelled to pour bleach over them. I put bleach down both loos yesterday morning. Not been done over the weekend since Thursday. Felt like a good germ kill score with both loos. I sometimes quite like that power thing. It's like five minutes ago there were probably a few million germs and I have now killed them all. All gone. Dead. Well 99.9% anyway.

loudbatperson · 08/05/2024 07:45

Bath, shower panel, sink and loo get a clean daily.

The floor around twice a week unless needed more.

The tiles, behind the movable cabinet, window and mirror once a week.

We are a family of 5 with one bathroom at the moment, so it gets a lot of use.

DressDilemma · 08/05/2024 07:49

Daily - Wipe clean wash basin and floor and clean the toilet bowl and put bleach in.

Twice weekly - cleaners do a deep clean - scrubbing shower cubicle and bathtub, mopping floors and emptying bins.

BrandNewBicep · 08/05/2024 08:12

Daily. If I leave it any longer it just looks awful. Its very quick to clean and makes me happy. The rest of the house tends to get cleaned if I know we are having visitors!

Glowlearn · 08/05/2024 08:16

I'm quite curious about the worry about germs. I posted earlier, basically I clean as I go along. Never use bleach or other heavy duty cleaners. And horrors of horrors, i wipe the outside of the loo with a cloth and then chuck it in with the rest of the washing. It takes moments!

Luxell934 · 08/05/2024 08:19

Maybe once a fortnight deep clean. I might clean the sink if it has toothpaste on it occasionally or clean the toilet if it’s dirty, I am certainly not cleaning it daily and my house is pretty immaculate to be honest.

QuickDraining · 08/05/2024 08:23

Can't believe the amount of people just throwing bleach down the loo. It's a large source of organochlorine pollution, it's corrosive, a potential health hazard. And doesn't really do much in the toilet anyway. You are just polluting the waste water system and water ways. Vinegar will do the job. Or you can do little and often scrubbing. This is a totally bizarre and wasteful practice, and just goes to show how bad advertising can be.

Toomuch44 · 08/05/2024 08:24

I can't believe anyone only cleans their bathroom once a month. Everything, including all the tiles I can reach😅is done once a week. If we've got visitors or something looks particularly bad, then it'll be done more. We've got builders in for about eight days soon, so I'll do downstairs toilet and sink probably very couple of days as changing hand towel, as they'll be eight of us using it.

WoodBurningStov · 08/05/2024 08:40

I clean bits at different times, the sink a few times a week. Loo I put loo cleaner in it and give it a wipe a few times a week but a proper scrub maybe twice a month. My bath taps weekly but the whole bath twice a month.

muddyford · 08/05/2024 12:33

There's only me using it so loo and basin every week plus a wipe round the shower. Thorough clean once a month.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 08/05/2024 13:18

I'm not a fan of the overuse of the word 'grim; on this site, but once a month for a family of three doesn't sound like enough to me. My cleaner cleans the bathrooms once a week at home, and it's just me. I'll squeegee down the shower after I've used it because it's a hard water area. I spend a couple of days a week in a small place in town, but even there I will clean the shower/bathroom every couple of weeks. I'm looking for a cleaner there (fortnightly would do) too, but it's not made it to the top of the list yet!!
