Loving M&S again

thesnailandthewhale · 21/04/2024 12:48

Popped into M&S this morning and had a browse and finally they seem to have really turned a corner, there were so many items I could have bought today (if funds permitted). I settled for these:

Smart jeans:
https://www.marksandspencer.com/harper-cigarette-ankle-grazer-jeans/p/clp60590909?color=INDIGOMIX&prevPage=srp#intid=pid_pg1pip2g4r1c1

Linen Trousers:

Soft Sweater:
https://www.marksandspencer.com/pure-linen-wide-leg-trousers/p/clp60636146?color=ONYX&prevPage=srp#intid=pid_pg1pip48g4r3c3

Calm hand cream:

Tell me of your finds, I need to stop buying from Shein etc and get back to better quality items. I've got my eye on these next:

Sainsbury pants are generally quite good.

@CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment Next are great and soft cotton but come up big so I size down and they are more expensive. As @Riverlee says Sainsburys are decent for less money.

BestIsWest · 22/04/2024 19:14

@Zoopet you can filter by brand on there.

This is clearly an advert for M&S, don't fall for it!

I hate to say it but was thinking the same- these DO come up every season.

The posts fawning over how easy it is to return something in store- not with a human giving you an instant refund, but by scanning and dropping in a postbox like you can with any instore Locker thing when you've bought online from pretty much anywhere, gave it away for me.

Deathraystare · 22/04/2024 19:42

Well this is not an advert. I am a real person. Size 20 real! I am very happy with the Harper cigarette jeans!

I love those linen trousers, and I live in their Sienna jeans.

Sienna Jeans. I have four pairs.
I died a pair of the navy ones to make them look like new.
I wear them for work ( school)

Really? I've never come across that returns system anywhere except M&S. Maybe it depends which city.

PrimalLass · 22/04/2024 20:16

An advert? No just really pleased there's nice stuff as I had a hefty birthday voucher.

Hols24 · 22/04/2024 20:17

@thesnailandthewhale please could you post the soft sweater link? (It's the linen trousers link again!)

ItsMintUpNorth · 22/04/2024 20:18

Nope not an advert from either I was genuinely just very surprised at some of the things I saw and had actually planned to start a similar thread.

Green one again! I usually buy grey or black but have reached that menopausal age where I like a bit of colour Smile

Both women’s clothing and homeware has improved massively over the past 6 months. Well done M&S 👏

I like the yoga sweatshirts and high waisted gym leggings (for wearing out and about). I’ve bought some plain summer dresses that look like Whistles, a very cute handbag that’s channeling Bottega and the supersoft crew neck jumpers that are simple and great value. A few pairs of tailored trousers for work have been excellent quality/fit too.

ChristmasCwtch · 22/04/2024 21:02

I would like a Sparks clothes discount please 😂 Only ever seems to be 50p off a sandwich or 75p off Brie.

Weirdly I do get free bread and bananas every month or so 🤷🏼‍♀️

@CreateAUsername2024
what is the name of the Chanel dupe ? If you don’t mind thanks

I think it's called Soft Iris which is a dupe for Coco Madamoiselle.

I've got Pink Pepper and I can say it's almost identical to Calvin Klein Woman which I also have.

A friend sent me this link the other day,

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 22/04/2024 21:26

Went in yesterday for a job interview outfit. Bought two nice pairs of chinos and a suit jacket.
Especially pleased with the chinos. Very comfy, reasonable price and lots of colours to choose from.

Ovaltiner · 22/04/2024 22:07

I popped into an M&S recently and was also
impressed. Couldn't work out if the clothes had improved or it was just that I was getting older!

I have since read that they snapped up quite a few designers when Arcadia went out of business, which would explain the recent improvement.

ThePoshUns · 22/04/2024 22:14

I've always bought the majority of my clothes in Marks. They fit me well and the quality is reliable.
I'm not keen on the current waistcoat trend but have bought the black high waist linen trousers.

lollipoprainbow · 22/04/2024 22:16

babyproblems · 21/04/2024 22:27

Great thread I am also loving M&S at the moment!

LOVE the calm pillow spray. It’s just lovely and has a full size and a travel size.

Bought a black textured knitted cardigan with gold buttons, Chanel sort of style thing but more casual. I’ve worn it loads and everyone comments on it! Only £35.

Is the cardigan the one with black and white trim or plain black with gold buttons ?

MrsMoastyToasty · 22/04/2024 22:32

I went to get some trousers for work. Their size 20 short trousers in every pair I tried on were at least 4 inches too long. I don't want to have to shorten them (my sewing isn't that good) and if I go for ankle grazers then the cut is wrong elsewhere. And why should I?
At 5ft 3in I'm at the upper end of petite clothing height wise, so if I'm struggling to get M&S short length trousers to fit then I pity my sub 5ft friends.
In the past M&S sold their trousers with the inside leg measurement on the label. I have 27in inside leg so I could pick up any 27in length trousers and know that they would fit. Why can't they return to this form of labelling?

AnnieSnap · 22/04/2024 23:04

Pedestrian0 · 22/04/2024 13:25

I'm reaaaaaally fussy about fabrics - I need whatever is next to my skin to be soft, and somehow M&S always miss the mark and end up scratchy, thin, lumpy or otherwise uncomfortable. I'm aware I'm fussy but other brands do hit the mark (pun not intended).

Consider taking-up sewing. I was inspired by the Great British Sewing Bee three years ago, having never previously had any contact with a sewing machine. I now make most of my own clothes (I’m still amazed) and it’s great to be able to choose my own fabrics 🙂

RabbitsRock · 22/04/2024 17:51

ouch321 do you need a Sparks card to use the Sparks app?

Yes, not a one of their credit cards, just the loyalty thing.

RainStreakedWindows · 22/04/2024 23:29

@Mary28 I bought the black top too - it's a fabulous top!

Shuttheblinds · 23/04/2024 00:23

I have recently bought two pairs of jeans from M&S. I would never have dreamt of getting jeans from there a few years ago as they were frumpy. The boyfriend cropped jeans are so comfy and really nice on, I bought them in two colours.

Shuttheblinds · 23/04/2024 00:25

Hols24 · 22/04/2024 20:17

I can’t find it online either, the one with the linen trousers in the OP’s first post. It’s lovely, I wonder why it’s not on the website?

Banana1979 · 23/04/2024 00:27

I find their clothes quite drab and Mumsy
-like granny chic . Except their jeggings and bras
The clothes to the link you have posted are lovely, but suitable for a thin frame
regardless M&S is out of my budget and of most people, hence why they rely on Shein
I also find their food has gone down in quality

Noyok · 23/04/2024 00:37

Well I am 60 and went to M&S on my way to optician. I genuinely couldn’t find anything. Just drab and dreary. I am a size 14 trousers but a 20-22 . Absolutely no tops over a size 18-20 .
