Loving M&S again

Popped into M&S this morning and had a browse and finally they seem to have really turned a corner, there were so many items I could have bought today (if funds permitted). I settled for these:

Smart jeans:

Linen Trousers:

Soft Sweater:

Calm hand cream:

Tell me of your finds, I need to stop buying from Shein etc and get back to better quality items. I've got my eye on these next:

You sound like me yesterday OP, I popped in with DP and had to buy two jackets as I just couldn't decide which I preferred and there was much more I could have bought if I wasn't skint! I got a lovely dress in there a few weeks ago too and DP saw loads he liked yesterday as well. All the way home I kept muttering 'I can't believe how good M&S was!' Grin.

This is clearly an advert for M&S, don't fall for it!

Maia77 · 21/04/2024 20:36

I bought the carrot jeans but returned them as I didn't like how they fit - ridiculously wide in the thighs. I also bought Per Una denim shirt and love it.

PTSDBarbiegirl · 21/04/2024 20:39

They are bloody brilliant at the moment. My basket has sat there all week and now above 300. Will ditch a lot but yes they are v v good.

I have that cardigan too but in green. Looking forward to warmer weather to wear it

I liked it so much I got both the white one and the green one, it’s a lovely colour.

It really isn't, have been on here for years, mainly lurking but occasionally posting. Maybe it was the sheer pleasure of browsing in a shop, where I live we literally only have a Zara and a Primark left other than M&S.

Oh, I like those linen trousers.

I live in the US now and only realized earlier this year that M&S delivers here so I stocked up on underwear and got a lovely navy dress that looks great for work. There’s no shop where my Dad lives so I used to rush into the Edgware Road branch after getting off the Heathrow Express and buy packs of knickers. 🤣

They do @BruFord but if you compare the US and UK sites, the prices are much higher in $. I don't know if it's to make up for the 'free' delivery and returns?

I still use them sometimes but if there are a few things I want I tend to wait til I'm back in England and then stock up.

@noodlezoodle I expect so, I prefer to shop when I’m back in the UK, but it doesn’t always work out. And they make my favorite undies. 😂

Great thread I am also loving M&S at the moment!

LOVE the calm pillow spray. It’s just lovely and has a full size and a travel size.

Bought a black textured knitted cardigan with gold buttons, Chanel sort of style thing but more casual. I’ve worn it loads and everyone comments on it! Only £35.

LittleGlowingOblong · 21/04/2024 22:42

Haven’t been in since their Xmas advert tbh.

JFDIYOLO · 22/04/2024 00:23

I'm amazed how much nice linen they have this season. I bought black wide leg trousers and two black v neck tunic tops.

Also a set of square Maxim china in white, and a hefty three wick Seashells candle.

Our branch isnt very big and I prefer to shop for clothes in person so it's good to find wearable, good quality not too expensive products.

KindaBinding81 · 22/04/2024 00:45

Their work-wear is amazing. I bought these trousers today for £17.50! They're so flattering and well-cut.

In their work-wear section they have about 20 styles to choose from - different widths and lengths with either elasticated or buckle waists.

Better cut IMO than my £120 Whistles trousers from last year...

I never see anything I want in the shop. I actually find the shop a bit overwhelming and frustrating to find things/sizes, but online things are laid-out’ beautifully, there is a big range and lots of things that I can order to pick-up/try on, at my local store 🙂

stickystick · 21/04/2024 20:18

The stuff looks OK until you see it up close and look at the product description/labels and realise that nearly everything is polyester/nylon/acrylic.

Just looked at a jumpsuit from Boden that came-up on Instagram. Turns out it’s made of Polyester and it’s £150! For bloody Polyester! I’m so glad that I make most of my clothes now. I choose quality fabrics, so doing isn’t cheap. If I used Polyester, it would be peanuts.

IAmTheGibby · 22/04/2024 02:00

I still haven’t been able to forgive M&S since they replaced the perfect Sumptuously Soft bra with a “Body” bra that is made of cheaper material and is so much less comfortable. I wasn’t the only person to lament its demise! https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/4741011-favourite-ms-bra-discontinued-alternatives

They also changed the multipack lace trim knickers that I have been buying for years from 95% cotton to 62% cotton with polyamide. Again, poorer quality but the same price. I’d have preferred it if they had simply put the price up for the decent-quality ones! While I was looking around hopelessly for the ones I used to buy, another lady was having a similar conversation with her daughter about the sudden lack of pretty cotton undies (other than full briefs). Fortunately, I discovered the perfect alternative in Sainsbury’s of all places - 95% cotton, loads of pretty colours and patterns with lace trim around the waist (just like my old ones). AND cheaper than M&S for better quality. I really hope that Sainsbury’s doesn’t cut quality in the same way as I’m now relying on them for all my undies just as I used to rely on M&S…!

Favourite M&S bra discontinued. Alternatives? | Mumsnet

Is anyone an M&S Lingerie Consultant who can suggest either where I can buy discontinued stock of this bra, or it's best replacement. Sumptuousl...

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 22/04/2024 02:45

Has anyone tried the Next packs of knickers, are they any good?

SprinkleOfSunak · 22/04/2024 03:04

I can’t find one single thing I like in there.

I desperately needed something new to wear for an interview a couple of weeks ago, and I really would’ve thought I could rely on M&S for that - absolutely no chance! I don’t wear trousers, and was looking for a dress ideally, but everything looked so casual, or like holiday wear. I trawled the very large branch I was in to no avail, and left feeling tearful. I’d already been to John Lewis, Zara and River Island, and all of these had been useless for an interview dress too.

I could also do with getting a few new items for my wardrobe anyway, so had a general look around M&S - but nothing took my fancy.

Toooldforthis36 · 22/04/2024 07:29

Seriously improved of late 👍👍

BrandNewBicep · 22/04/2024 07:53

I see lots of things I like, but they seem to make shirts/tops soooo oversized at the moment. I am a size 16/18 and a size 12 dress was enormous with no shape.
I know the trend is oversized at the moment but it makes me look even bigger.

AlpineMuesli · 22/04/2024 07:55

I have a theory that this timeline won’t allow a good M&S and good John Lewis to exist simultaneously. One must always suck.

I also hate the oversized trend. I don't want to drown in fabric! So many times in the past year I've seen a wonderful coloured suit (bright red, pink or acid green) but the trousers are like a parachute and the jacket is a tent.

Bring back normal clothes, please! 🙏

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 22/04/2024 09:58

Anytime I go into the shop I find it a bit overwhelming and rarely buy anything. I'm like this with all shops though not just M&S! Luckily I prefer to shop online, I find there's so much more on their website and the ordering & return process is easy. I also find gems on H&M that I would never find in store (in fact, often it says 'only available online') I love being able to filter sizes, colour, neckline, length etc. I would imagine far more customers are online than in store now, so people who are commenting that their local M&S is always empty - that won't necessarily signal the fall of M&S
