I've just eaten half a bag a few sugared almonds.
I have not had these for years, maybe even decades! I'd forgotten how moreishly crunchy and addictive these bad boys are.
Also rather partial to those weird flying saucer things, that are supposed melt but in reality, kinda half dissolve and get stuck like you're shedding skin.
Those sherbert fountain things, with the liquorice... I want to say wand (correct me if I'm a wrong 'un) also get an honorable mention.

What are your faves sweets from childhood?

@Waltzers I just googled choc lick and they still sell it online!

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 07/04/2024 16:31

I remember Hanky Panky in the 80's was toffee popcorn can't think why they were discontinued 🤣

NewFred · 07/04/2024 16:43

Does anyone remember the cigarette candies with pinky red tips that came packaged in a packet that resembled the real things 😱

I could kill right now for a bag of dolly mixtures.

onwardandupwards · 07/04/2024 16:57

Sherbert pips, wham bars, push pops and fizz wizz!

ALongHardWinter · 07/04/2024 17:13

I loved those pink candy shrimps. You can still get them from some places online but they're not the same. Too soft and spongy!

KettleOn919 · 07/04/2024 17:17

Everlasting Strip – a long, flat bar of toffee resembling a ruler in shape. Bluebird toffee bars in banana, mint, liquorice, or plain flavours. Toffee Poppets, which came in a little cardboard box and were as hard as bullets. I loved toffee, me!

TheBlahWitchProject · 07/04/2024 17:22

I was about to say about the cigarettes…chocolate with rice paper around in a real life cigarette pack…I used to use the candy matchsticks to ‘light’ and nibble small bits off cigarette to mimic my mums getting shorter as she smoked !!! I’m a nurse now 🤣…

Chocolate tools!

Toddlerteaplease · 07/04/2024 17:37

Bubblegum turtles, fried eggs and giant cola bottles were the best. Along with Clarinco mints.

Chocolate tools!

To go with the chocolate cigs for your tea break.

RinklyRomaine · 07/04/2024 17:39

I was lucky enough to have parents who ran a sweet shop. The Bonds rep would bring us new ideas to try.

Rose and violet pips, proper acid drops, sweet peanuts and pear drops were our favourites but there were so many. Toffos, a mint meringue bar with dark chocolate I forget the name of, proper Drifters, raspberry Ruffles, Pyramints. All gone.

Any one remember space dust? Black jack chews which used to turn the tongue black?

Black jacks were my favourites (still are when I see them) closely followed by old fashioned midget gems or sports mixture.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 07/04/2024 17:41

Pint pots. I love them.

menopausalmare · 07/04/2024 17:52

Miss rice paper sheets for 1/2p and 2p white chocolate skulls with jam in.
I would blow my 25p Saturday pocket money on penny sweets in 1984.

Northernsouloldies · 07/04/2024 18:19

I remember picking out my mix up bag telling the newsagent Mannie what I wanted out of the bairn height glass fronted cabinet.

lickthepony · 07/04/2024 19:41

Cola flavour spangles and sweet peanuts.

AComboOfSocksandNeverEnoughPants · 07/04/2024 19:47

I loved the mixed flavour toffos. And o diversify a little, creamola foam and lemonade sparkle ice lollies.

MoonWoman69 · 07/04/2024 19:53

The banana Toffoes
Mint Crackle
Ice Breaker
Spangles
Satin Pillows
Dentyne Cinnamon chewing gum
Bulls Eyes
Sherbert Pips
Murray Mints

At school in the 80s, we were all addicted to either Victory Vs or Horlicks Tablets!!! Better than crack I suppose!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Duidi123 · 07/04/2024 19:58

Trebor Basset lemon or strawberry bonbons with the really hard centre and loads of sugary dust on the outside! The ones nowadays just don’t live up!

AllTheMiniEggs · 07/04/2024 20:00

Chocolate limes. We always had them in the car for long journeys. Remind me of going on holiday and visiting grandparents.

RustyBear · 07/04/2024 20:15

Aztec bars
Fry’s Five Centres

Tessisme · 07/04/2024 20:29

These might be NI sweets - Riley's Chocolate Toffee Rolls, rhubarb rock, clove rock and brandy balls. My teeth should be in a right state😬

There was a wee shop near us where the owner made football pools sheets into a poke (cone shape) and filled it with bubbly's, chocolate logs, flying saucers, fruit salads etc. Can't remember how much it cost. I am old.

CatsLikeBoxes · 07/04/2024 20:32

Cola spangles
The different flavoured toffees - toffos?
Some rectangular butterscotch sweets in a textured silvery wrapper that were delicious
Round flat lollies on a stick that were hard/crunchy and a toffee sort of flavour
Sherbet pips
