Retro Sweets

I've just eaten half a bag a few sugared almonds.
I have not had these for years, maybe even decades! I'd forgotten how moreishly crunchy and addictive these bad boys are.
Also rather partial to those weird flying saucer things, that are supposed melt but in reality, kinda half dissolve and get stuck like you're shedding skin.
Those sherbert fountain things, with the liquorice... I want to say wand (correct me if I'm a wrong 'un) also get an honorable mention.

What are your faves sweets from childhood?

Oooo got to be lola cubes 😍😍 or the really tangy rhubarb and custard sweets 💗 making me hungry now Lol

shellyleppard · 06/04/2024 17:17

Or even kola cube

Cracklymarckly · 06/04/2024 17:20

Sherbet lemons...would suck them until the roof of my mouth was sore

Pineapple cubes. I owe many a filling to them.

DoYouSmokePaul · 06/04/2024 17:22

I went to my cousin’s wedding yesterday and during the disco they had massive bags on the tables, jam packed with retro pick n mix style sweets! I was in heaven.

White mice and the white jazzies are my favourites. And chewing nuts which weren’t nuts but delicious chewy toffee 😋

DoYouSmokePaul · 06/04/2024 17:22

And for any Scottish folks - Rhubarb rock and Soor Plooms!! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

NewFred · 06/04/2024 17:23

@shellyleppard hahaha I just realised I wrote 'faves' instead of 'fave' so your lola cubes will fit right in 😅

@Cracklymarckly funny you should say those but I bought a pack of sherbert fruits from waitrose last week, they didn't last long... 🤗

Not sure if it’s retro but those fruit salad sweets!

Booyhooy · 06/04/2024 17:24

I wish someone would recreate Pacers. They were gorgeous.

Cracklymarckly · 06/04/2024 17:25

The peanut shaped ones with peanuty stuff in them!

SanFranBear · 06/04/2024 17:25

Aniseed balls and those chewy nut sweets DoYouSmokePaul mentioned... that was basically my Woolies go to! Oh, and liquorice rock things...

shellyleppard · 06/04/2024 17:25

Were Pacers the mint chews

Ooh now you're talking!! I LOVED those green and white stripey beauties! Those spearmint chews do not even come close.
They remind me of walking home from school with my mum and sister.
I'd aways choose pacer mints (aged 6 lol)
and a packet of wickers crisps.
Does anyone remember those??

Irridescantshimmmer · 06/04/2024 17:29

Any one remember space dust? Black jack chews which used to turn the tongue black?

NCFTS · 06/04/2024 17:29

Tooth frooties and Frosties (the sweets) were my favourites, but they are no longer made.

Other than that I like cola cubes, pineapple cubes, rhubarb and custard, rosy apples, jazzies and chocolate fish & chips.

Nicelynicelyjohnson · 06/04/2024 17:30

There was a thing called Double Agents, many flavours. Hard on the outside, unexpected soft centre, hence the name.
I think there was a chocolate orange one, or maybe chocolate lime.
They were the king of sweets in the 1970s.

Oh and Toffos - I loved them so much!

Churchview · 06/04/2024 17:33

The boy who sat behind me at school ate too many Pacers and was sick all over my back. It was bright green.

NewFred · 06/04/2024 17:34

A friend and I were addicted to herbal tablets in maths.
Don't ask me why herbal tablets and why maths. It just was.
😆

(Omg I realise I sound like a real sugar junkie - I promise you I still have all my own teeth 😬 )
