Air fryer drawers…be honest?

How often do you clean yours out?

Wait, what? People don't wash it each time?

I wash it like I would a frying pan or oven tray - every time.

Ilikewinter · 03/04/2024 17:12

Every time I use it, I assumed that was the normal thing to do!

Yes, this. Unless I've had something in there in a tin with no chance of splashes or spitting, it gets washed.

Beenaboutabit · 03/04/2024 17:26

Every time unless it’s just been used to heat up a pastry

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 03/04/2024 17:26

We use disposable liners but the drawer and rack still get greasy from the fat being released in steam during cooking. It gets washed a minimum of every other use.

CointreauVersial · 03/04/2024 17:27

If I've used a silicon liner, then I just stick that in the dishwasher (@ItsVeryHyacinthBucket they are like square bowls with high sides, so no, any oil doesn't leak out).

If I've been cooking something very "clean" (e.g warming up a pastry) then I just give the pan a quick wipe, but for anything saucy/greasy/burnt on then, yes, I wash it every time. The drawer is dishwasher safe but I tend to handwash, as I don't want to wreck it.

Just as you would an oven dish.

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 03/04/2024 17:28

You don’t clean the oven after every use though? It seems a lot of faff for something that was supposed to bring convenience to my life!

I used paper liners so every time I throw away the liner, wipe and put another one in.

fatphalange · 03/04/2024 17:29

The convenience aspect isn't that you're not meant to have to keep it clean

PoorHammyHamster · 03/04/2024 17:29

Every time here too.

spiderlight · 03/04/2024 17:31

Every time. The house smells like a chippy otherwise!

justasking111 · 03/04/2024 17:35

Convenience because I hate cleaning ovens, grill, saves money too. It's like washing a saucepan..

OwlCityisthemostunderrated · 03/04/2024 17:35

Goes in the dishwasher after every use.

noodlesfortea · 03/04/2024 17:37

I can't lie, my eyebrows hit the ceiling when I read this.

We are generally quite slovenly but concern air fryer every time unless it's been a reheat of something not messy like a pasty/toasted sandwich.

Sometimes I use a small ceramic dish if I'm roasting veggies so I can put it in the dishwasher

stopringingme · 03/04/2024 17:37

I use parchment paper liners under the rack - that keeps the drawer clean, just take them out and throw away. I then just need to clean the rack unless I use a silicone dish - that goes in the dishwasher.

I have just upgraded to a big Ninja, which says the drawer and racks can go in the dishwasher - I doubt I will do that unless cooking something really messy.

GasPanic · 03/04/2024 17:37

I use the liners and don't fry up stuff with masses of fat like bacon and sausages or burgers, so once every couple of weeks.

Judging by the rest of the posts on here I am hitting peak filth.

Nottherealmama · 03/04/2024 17:39

Every time I use it otherwise they stink and the grease goes onto whatever you cook next. I might not wash it if I've used it to boil and egg or cook a jacket potato.

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 03/04/2024 17:42

I’m destined for peak filth too then @GasPanic

Maybe you don't clean the oven, but you probably do clean the dish/tray you cooked the food in! It's no different.

The convenience of an airfryer is the speed and the reduced consumption of electricity.

Kitkat1523 · 03/04/2024 17:44

Everytime I use it

Nowayhayday · 03/04/2024 17:44

I use liners, only wash if something has escaped the liner, so probably once a week?

Mimilamore · 03/04/2024 18:51

After each use if I use the drawers without silicone liners. Takes seconds to wipe with a kitchen spray and rinse with damp cloth. If the liner is particularly greasy then in the dishwasher it goes... the easiest kitchen gadget I have ever had to clean

Elebag · 03/04/2024 18:53

Nearly every time. It's only used for hash browns and fries though.

Itsthemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 03/04/2024 19:04

I feel like this is a trick question. Everytime we use them? Although we could invest in some liners that might help

dontbelievewhatyousee · 03/04/2024 19:06

Every time. Thought this was normal

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 03/04/2024 19:06

😱EVERY TIME! Good Lord. It's the size of a salad bowl and takes twenty seconds in hot soapy water. I'm not a clean freak but doesn't yours smoke old fat constantly if you're not washing it?
