Posh hotel un-asked for alarm at 6 - compensation?!

Staying in a v posh hotel. Think 900 Swiss francs per night...

Just got woken up by a bloody alarm. Picked up phone and got a recorded message saying we had asked for a 6am alarm. We hadn't!! It woke us both and now we can't get back to sleep.

Rang reception, who were puzzled about the alarm but not v apologetic.

AIBU to think they could offer a small gesture to apologise?? Eg a free bottle of wine?! Or AIB greedy and mistakes happen?!

That’s a little unfair hellsbells it’s actually quite interesting having a nose at hotels across the world. What they’re like and how much they cost. It takes seconds to look and like @fungipie i like having a look as well, I’m sure we re not alone even Justpontificating has had a look and found some really expensive ones.

I complained at a hotel last year about a safety issue around the pool and they sent some pastries and a bottle of cheap fizz to the room all tied up with a fancy bow and cellophane so this is definitely something hotels do. I actually didn’t like it much. Felt like they were trying to mollify me. Maybe I would have felt differently if it was something I actually wanted!
I don’t think it’s unreasonable for the op to expect a little something.

Think you missed the point here.
People are commenting that OP is posting when OP is on holiday. None of my business why they are saying this or whether I agree or disagree with their comment it’s irrelevant to why I commented.

I tagged a poster who mentioned the above and said ‘while at the same time they are spending their time playing Inspector Clouseu’.

My point was The Inspector Clouseus of the thread aren’t on holiday so it’s really not the same thing at all.

I know! I'm on MN on holiday!

I don't know about everyone else, but I need some down-time on holiday too. We walked for miles yesterday, spent hours exploring, then we had some time to in our room. I don't see why that's so bizarre.

Anyway, we had our 'free drinks' last night. We were limited to Swiss beer and one Swiss wine or soft drinks!!! Not entirely what we'd been expecting, and it didn't really make us feel like valued guests either. So, TripAdvisor it is when we get home...

That's rubbish, you should have been given the choice of the entire bar menu imo. That is a non apology apology. Trip advisor indeed.

That's pretty poor OP although I'm sure the hair shirt brigade will upbraid you for being ungrateful! A nice cocktail would have been better! Enjoy the rest of your stay.
