Posh hotel un-asked for alarm at 6 - compensation?!

Staying in a v posh hotel. Think 900 Swiss francs per night...

Just got woken up by a bloody alarm. Picked up phone and got a recorded message saying we had asked for a 6am alarm. We hadn't!! It woke us both and now we can't get back to sleep.

Rang reception, who were puzzled about the alarm but not v apologetic.

AIBU to think they could offer a small gesture to apologise?? Eg a free bottle of wine?! Or AIB greedy and mistakes happen?!

I have just wasted spent time reading this whole thread and I am amazed at some of the crazy responses.

OP I am with you 100% on this. If anything wakes me up at 6am there is no way I’d be getting back to sleep at that time, so I’d be extremely pissed off if this happened when I was in a hotel.

it makes no difference if the room cost £50 a night or £1000 a night. The hotel staff should’ve been apologetic right from the start and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect some sort of gesture as compensation.

Fuck me, if only I'd thought of that. I suggest you read my updates!!

Oh I did read your update (later, I agree, you got free drinks, although a bit limited. Makes me think you didn't do as suggested.

Have you found out what happened in the end? Does it remain inexplicable and untraceable?

When they've paid that much for a room, they literally are entitled. As the hotel itself ultimately acknowledged.

@Feenollfarleen

Oh, bore off. If you'd spent good money on a luxury night away, would you be happy to just wave off an alarm call at 6am?!

If you're not interested.

Wait...so you're offended that I'm just calling out the drama. LOL ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Sorry OP I think you're being a drama queen. I think sometimes shit happens and you deal with it. Mistakes happen.

sunglassesonthetable · 05/04/2024 19:06

Sorry OP I think you're being a drama queen. I think sometimes shit happens and you deal with it. Mistakes happen.

Course they do. And they always will.

But it interests me that you think it's the individual customer, who's paying over their hard earned £££ as a treat, who should 'deal with it ' and suck it up.

And not the big luxury hotel business who should ' deal with it'. It costs them pennies in the grand scale.

" hey we're sorry, drinks on us "

sunglassesonthetable · 05/04/2024 19:15

You have a financial contract with a hotel. ( And in this case a very £££one. ) They aren't going you a special favour.

If you didn't turn up they would still charge you. It wouldn't be a case of " oops it's only a mistake we got the day wrong" You would still compensate them by paying.

OP wasn't expecting the world. Just a an acknowledgement of her situation as a customer. And their offer of drinks at the bar was gladly received.

( Turned out to be very mealy mouthed mind)

.

OP your update says it’s a mystery. That alarm calls get swiped. So you didn’t find out in the end?

LouDeLou · 05/04/2024 20:43

This thread is mad. Do most people not pay over the top for an expected level of service?

we spend loads on holiday - we work hard and want to have a week in luxury, waited on hand and foot. And we pay for it - that’s THE POINT.

IVE PAID A FORTUNE - DONT FUCK THIS UP FOR ME.

id actually want soft music and someone singing me back to sleep 🤣

But that’s the difference. A 5 star hotel will generally doesn’t need to be asked. OP appears to be asking for it. Not the same. but we also dont know if OP got upset and/or demanded something.

Ive found at nicer establishments, the kind and mild mannered guests tend to get catered to a bit more. especially in the days of influencers and bridezillas — they probably do the minimum for certain types.

DontBeAMeany · 05/04/2024 21:31

@cremebrulait
If you were the hotel manager and you found out that a guest had been woken by an alarm by mistake what would you do?

riceuten · 05/04/2024 21:35

Grabby much?

No, not really.

YourFogLightsAreOnTheresNoFog · 05/04/2024 22:01

So funny.

I would be so pissed off being woken up.

It reminders me of Gavin & Stacey. The drama. If I booked a posh hotel I'd like a lie in.

hellsBells246 · 05/04/2024 22:03

@cremebrulait - no. Yawn. Where was I being dramatic?? Do let me know.

All righty. The next time you spend a fortune on a special night away, I'll ring you at 6am. How do you think you would feel??

@hellsBells246 you’re a better woman than I, because if I was awaken at 6:00am by an alarm I did not request there would be murder 🔪

hellsBells246 · 05/04/2024 22:11

So, @cremebrulait, so far you have said:,

*Sorry OP I think you're being a drama queen. I think sometimes shit happens and you deal with it. Mistakes happen.

And

A 5 star hotel will generally doesn’t [sic] need to be asked.

So I should simultaneously suck it up and not complain, yet my five-star hotel shouldn't need to be asked to give me compensation?

But clearly @cremebrulait thinks I was 'upset' and 'demanded something' and also that I' a ' certain tyoe'?

Christ on a bike. You have made up a complete narrative there that does not exist. Insanity.
