I am a size 18/20 and extremely unhealthy.

I just am so overwhelmed with where to start to try and even begin to lose weight. But I have to do something as I am so miserable 😭

@upanddowns by real food, I mean anything that’s not processed - fruit, veg, lean meat, grains, lentils, sweet potatoes, spices etc. There are no refined carbs like rice, pasta, white bread. You can eat things like wholemeal wraps and greek yogurt which I suppose are processed, as well as vegan options like quorn etc.

Obviously you can’t just eat as much “real food” as you like - the premise of the Six Pack Revolution is that you eat 3 x meals and 3 x snacks a day using the recipes from the programme and measure ingredients using your hands:

meals are made up of a palm size and thickness piece of protein (chicken/fish etc or a palm and a half of a veggie alternative like Quorn), a handful of healthy carbs (veg) and a teaspoon of olive/coconut/sesame seed oil or half an avocado.

That’s the basic idea - but there’s no calorie counting at all.

Thank you for explaining that. It sounds like s very healthy way of eating, I'll give it a try!

Did anyone count calories ?

Yes, lost 24lbs. Easiest way to diet

It took me literally over a decade to discover what works for me and to stop the yo-yo dieting, I’d tried most schemes apart from medication and/or surgery. Everyone’s body and psychology is different, but the winning and sustainable formula for me is 16:8 fasting combined with carbs at only one meal per day combined with loosely sticking to the weight watchers points system (which I could probably ditch for a different calorie counting app, but I am familiar with this one).

Edited to say I also aim for 20,000 steps per day, but happy if I hit 15,000.

I downloaded an app, which includes short 'lessons' and calculates how many calories you need to lose weight. You put in your meals and it guides you towards healthier food. I've found it motivating so I carried on after the free trial ended. I lost 2kgs last week.

Calorie counting to ensure a regular deficit- my daily target is 1400 calories which in me produces a slow loss of about 700 grams a week. I use My Fitness Pal and I weigh foods and log them.

nutrient dense foods- lots of protein, where possible lower fat. So turkey mince, chicken, cottage cheese, eggs. Protein shakes to keep the daily grams up and help feel full.

no booze. Lots of water.

regular exercise: daily steps not falling below 6000. Weight bearing and resistance training sessions- you can do this at home.

there are good YouTube videos: DanielJrStretch, Phoebe Cartwright (Fat loss fundamentals), posture tonic with Jacinta (Pilates), jasmine McDonald (ballet and Pilates workouts). The first two especially give practical, sensible, funny advice.

patience and consistency will be your best friends- don’t look for quick fixes, just keep on with good habits and you’ll get there. Break down your overall goal into small steps which you keep repeating.
