Lostindating2023 · 01/04/2024 21:13

I am a size 18/20 and extremely unhealthy.

I just am so overwhelmed with where to start to try and even begin to lose weight. But I have to do something as I am so miserable 😭

Aqua and a decent swim most days a week, intermittent fast, low carb. Lost 15kg in last 6 months.

LaPalmaLlama · 01/04/2024 22:11

Ran a lot.

i count calories using myfitnesspal and eat in a deficit. only thing that works for me ( and you need to log EVERYTHING) where i struggle is maintaining. i know how to eat to lose weight and how to eat to put it on but really struggle to maintain so end up yo yoing. make a start that’s all you need to do. even if you lose very slowly don’t get despondent- Christmas 2024 will arrive and you can either be the weight you are now(if you do nothing) or much less - if you lose only half a pound a week you would be 20 pounds lighter by Christmas 40 pounds lighter if you lose a pound a week.

This is amazing!! How did you find Noom? It's one of the few diets I haven't tried! Do they advise you what your calorie intake should be?

LaWench · 01/04/2024 22:40

Prescription WL 💊 at a private WL clinic. This removed the food noise; head hunger and peckishness and made it much easier to make healthy choices; Whole foods, reducing sugar/ lots of water/ no alcohol/ small portions/ walking daily/ gym 6-5x a week.
Currently 2st down with more to go. Thrown away my fat clothes and enjoying being a couple of sizes down.

fiddleleaffig · 01/04/2024 23:09

Wegovy.

Sorry. I admire everyone else who is incredibly disciplined and able to track all their calories and keep to a strict diet long term. Unfortunately my adhd brain just doesn't work like that. I've been on Wegovy for 5 months and have lost 23lbs so far. I just inject once a week then forget all about it

R41nb0wR0se · 01/04/2024 23:14

I've lost 30kgs in about 7 months. Trying to eat less processed food, more fruit and veg, drink more water, very occasional alcohol. Main thing that's helped has been MyFitnessPal - set a goal weight and how much you want to lose a week, and make sure you stay under the calories they recommend. Ignore the extra calories they "give" you for exercise as they're wildly inaccurate!

Tobermory · 01/04/2024 23:25

I’ve joined the gym and for me this has had a massive impact on my weight loss. I was never a big fan of excersize and always found a reason not to. But now I’m addicted! I go at least 4 times a week and sometimes 6 - treadmill , I completed c25k and now run between 5-10k each session. I do classes - spin and body pump. When I first joined I found it very intimating, I felt extremely out of place surrounded by thinner people, but, the majority of people are juts there to do their thing and don’t give a second glance.

ive been counting calories- 1300 most days and generally not eating my excersize cals back.

Ive also been loosely intermittent fasting and eating between 12-8.

ive had days when I have a bit more , the odd food/booze takes me over my daily calorie intake but generally I’ve been quite strict. I’ve lost just shy of 3stone since I started in September and down 2 dress sizes.

good luck Op!

Femme2804 · 01/04/2024 23:30

Do intermittent fasting 20:4 so i fast for 20 hours and eat for 4 hours

lifting weight.

lose 11 stone in 18 months.

the main thing is you have to discipline. Its not about will power because will power and motivation gonna die. But discipline is not. Everyone like sweets and chocolate. Lots of people hates workout including me. But i always thing its just like a job for me. No matter how lazy and how tired and unmotivated i am. I always go to the gym. 4 times a week. and you will see the results.

I dont do calorie counting or measuring. Its too complicated. I just eat small portion using small children sectional plate. And i dont do snacking. Only snacking once a week or before period if i really want to and not a lot.

Those of you who don't each til 12 - don't your stomachs rumble? Loudly! I work in a quiet office...

Tobermory · 01/04/2024 23:44

When I’m a work, I’m not hungry at all
mid morning. I have a hot drink but not bothered for food. My work places is not at all quiet so no embarrassing tummy rumbles!
on days when I’m at home… I’m starving all morning!
why is that?

BoudiccaOfSuburbia · 02/04/2024 00:09

I lost 3.5 stone at about 1 or 1.5 lbs a week.

Decided to eat more healthily.
Cut out junk snacks
Upped veg and salads
Cut portions of carbs to a modest portion
Cut out deep fried / fat laden foods
Alcohol , weekends only

Breakfast: Greek yog, frozen blueberries, granola

Lunch: one slice of toast with an egg, avocado, homemade soup, or whatever. Salad.

Modest snack, e.g satsuma and an oat biscuit with 30g Brie

Dinner: protein, loads of veg, modest portion of carbs.

Team RH
Learn to count calories properly and consistently
10,000 steps per day minimum
Weights x 3 per week
Lost 4.5 stone
Now training for Hyrox and half marathon, still losing on 2100 calories
Life changing. Proper education about calorie deficit and macros is a game changer.

Also Team RH. I needed to hear the straight talking and the reasons why my bad weekends and good weeks would never work.

I’ve been using the Nutra check app to ascertain how many calories I need to consume to lose weight and track my intake. It’s so easy, you scan the barcode of the food package with your phone camera and it will tell you how many calories. There are lots of chain restaurants dishes on there too of you’re someone who eats out. Saves your frequently used foods. So easy to track on it. The two keys to success are planning your meals in advance and pushing through the early days when you feel hungry as after a while you will need less food to feel full.

whywonttheyeattheirfood · 02/04/2024 00:28

I'm doing low carb. If I eat more than 1200 calories a day I gain weight, so I'm doing 1000 cal a day and losing around 2lbs a week.

I have no bread, potatoes, pasta, cake, biscuits or sweets. No sugary drinks. I eat eggs, cheese, vegetables, some fruit, almond milk, natural yoghurt, low carb crackers, low sugar muesli, mixed nuts and fish. I drink tea, coffee and soda water. I eat between 1pm and 6pm. It's not that bad and the weight is coming off so I'm happy. I need to lose about three stones.

TextureSeeker · 02/04/2024 00:35

I lost a stone and a half, I wasn't overweight but wasn't happy with my figure either. I just did the tradional eat less, move more. I never counted calories because that sort of thing bores me to death. I had a dusty old exercise bike and I used that. I took up yoga, then I took up running. I was definitely an emotional eater, I switched to doing exercise to try and work out my feelings instead of eating. Now I bash out a 10k run when I feel sad or frustrated or whatever and feel so much better for it.

Slimming World. Walking.
But I’m back to square one again…

ImAlwaysknackered · 02/04/2024 00:51

Bariatric surgery. Best thing I’ve ever done. Has its risks but so does being morbidly obese. (Which I was)

MadCattery · 02/04/2024 00:55

I use an app called LoseIt! And log everything. It has an option to allow more calories on weekends and I eat lightly all week. Oatmeal, yogurt, fruit during a workday. I find it easier to limit my intake while at work, then have decent dinner. Walk a LOT. Every work break, walking. Stopped snacking after dinner. That was a big one, and took pounds off. Every snack is logged, so I usually limit myself. I have a sweet tooth, so a small number of jelly beans or a small piece of chocolate is worked into my calorie allowance. I eat a small breakfast, a small lunch and a snack weekdays. I’ve lost thirty pounds and have about ten to go.

Lucythecleaner · 02/04/2024 01:04

I was 8.2lb in 2021 I am now 13 stone. I have just started doing couch to 5k on the treadmill at home and really taking care of what I'm eating. I gave up alcohol in 2021 and turned to food. I know it will take a while to come off but im determined to get to my target weight of 9.5lb. Im so unfit but starting slow on the couch to 5k is progress

Everyone has their preferred approach or diet plan - I did the Six Pack Revolution and what it taught me is:

1.You can exercise all you want but what you put in your mouth is the number 1 thing that affects your weight.

2.If you eat real food, you don’t need to count calories. I still follow the Six Pack approach to eating and I have absolutely NO idea how many calories I eat in a day but I’m happy with my weight and I’m maintaining it.

3.When you’re eating healthily and fuelling your body properly, you should feel satisfied - not hungry all the time. In fact being hungry makes you more likely to reach for the crisps/cakes etc.

That sounds really interesting. What is classified as real food?
