What did you do to lose weight?

Lostindating2023 · 01/04/2024 21:13

I am a size 18/20 and extremely unhealthy.

I just am so overwhelmed with where to start to try and even begin to lose weight. But I have to do something as I am so miserable 😭

Low carb
More exercise
Less alcohol

Tough but works

Work colleague had surgery about this time last year. She has lost about 5 stone..her self esteem has shot up…good for her.

I can’t praise it highly enough tbh, after years of yo-yoing! My health was in serious decline and I was only 32. It isn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination. But it is an incredible tool. If I only had a couple of st to lose I wouldn’t have gone for it, as it happens I had to lose roughly 8-9st to be what was considered a healthy weight.

I do not doubt for one second it can be done without the help of an operation but my god is it hard. Scientifically it might be asinine as cals in v cals out but I think it goes deeper than that. I also read why we eat what we eat or something like that, it was very informative and pointed out how when we do lose weight our bodies don’t really like it and try to pull us back up to a set point. So overtime we will probably need to decrease cals again to see any loss.

Sorry I’ve rambled!

Can anyone please explain how drinking lots of water helps?

PansyOatZebra · 02/04/2024 05:45

MyFitness Pal. 1500 calories a day. Eat what you like but count calories.

Track everything plus walking and running.

Stick at it for a week, I promise you’ll have lost weight and once you start seeing your weight fall that motivates you to stick at it.

I think it makes you feel full so eat less.

Makes you feel fuller
Helps keeps the bowels moving
Improves the look of my skin
Reduces headaches , didn't even realise I was probably dehydrated before
Good for the kidneys
Gives me something to do with my hands - few sips at a time from a nice water bottle
Honestly it's worth it

Thanks, sorry i meant specifically for the benefit of weight loss. Seems the only one is that it supposedly keeps you fuller?

I’m a bit surprised by the Team RH recommendations. He always seems to be swearing and shouting and ranting and using sexist examples based on women. The app was down a lot and connected to My Fitness Pal anyway. I couldn’t get any help unless I was perfect to start with and if I could do that then I wouldn’t be signing up to a coaching service to start with. I knew better than to ask after I saw the public shamings on the FB group anyway.

I ended up embarrassed I’d ever had anything to do with it, you’re stuck paying for a year unless you want debt collection letters.

If you want to do macros and calorie counting then James Smith (among others) gives you them for free and you can use My Fitness Pal, for example.

Itsthemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 02/04/2024 06:21

I’ve just started 16:8 and I’m currently fine tuning it. The idea is you fast for 16 hours and eat within an 8 hour window. You can eat what you like within 8 hours but you do need to be sensible. It’s best to stick to two decent size meals with lots of vegetables

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 02/04/2024 06:23

Calorie counting worked for me. I was about about 15 st and lost 21 lbs in 3 months, then the weight loss did slow down. I did 3 workouts a week (with those exercise band thingummies, nothing particularly strenuous). I'm about to embark again as stupidly just stopped and have regain the weight and more.

I was on a LOT more calories than you'd imagine though, about 2000 a day. 5ft 7.

effoffwind · 02/04/2024 06:24

Totally agree @ChorltonsWheelies

I was quite interested until I signed up
Vile horrible man - shaming anyone who dares to have any flaws at all - smoking , vaping , alcohol, sedentary lifestyle, goes to SW - all targets for him to tell you " your stupid , your a fat cu** "

Cannot wait for those 12 months to be up and stop giving him 7 quid a month for absolutely nothing

Living on soup and peanuts. Almost a joke but I'm off a lot of food so tend to have soup for lunch and peanuts for breakfast or porridge. Dinner is a tiny portion of whatever the rest are having.

I've just got a smaller appetite and suggest that over eating is just something to do when bored

broccolienthusiast · 02/04/2024 08:26

I went plant based over 10 years ago (90% whole foods) and I’ve been size 6 ever since, no matter how much I eat.

What's RH?

Jokl · 02/04/2024 08:32

I have PCOS so I struggle terribly with losing weight so took a several-pronged approach! I went v low carb, logged everything on the myfitnesspal app to count calories, cut out all snacks and stopped drinking alcohol altogether. Also every time I served up my dinner, I’d then put some back. Sounds weird but it definitely helped reduce my portion sizes and keep them down by adjusting what I expected, if that makes sense?

Teddleshon · 02/04/2024 08:32

Gave up breakfast and snacking and aimed for 12000 steps a day. The weight fell off snd for the first time in my life I’ve had no trouble keeping it off.

8-10, but very flabby

A lot of hunger cues are often dehydration as many of us don't drink enough. Lots of water help the body stay healthy.

I have cut out junk. Given up takeaway (except a v rare one)
Given up alcohol (again, except the odd occasion)
I eat only between 12 -8pm - 2 meals and a low calorie snack most days.
I exercise x3 per week.
In 11 months I have lost 25kg/3st 10.

👍👍

Stick to the Zoe diet foods as much as possible. Walk as much as you can. I rarely drink alcohol and drink plenty of water. Cut down on caffeine especially in the winter months as SAD makes me crave carbohydrates.
