What did you do to lose weight?

Lostindating2023 · 01/04/2024 21:13

I am a size 18/20 and extremely unhealthy.

I just am so overwhelmed with where to start to try and even begin to lose weight. But I have to do something as I am so miserable 😭

What is RH?

I've lost weight without particularly meaning to recently, going from a size 10 to an 8.
I cut out UPFs for the health benefits and that led me to cutting out supermarket bread.
I felt good, so massively reduced all obvious white carbs - potato, bread, pasta, rice.
I now eat a high fat, high protein, low-ish carb diet, with just a bit of brown rice or sweet potato for my carbs. (Although if I want a roast with all the trimmings, an oven pizza or an Indian takeaway, then I just have one).

TeenDivided · 02/04/2024 09:35

I have been doing 'keto' for 8 months and have lost 4.5 stone so far.
I had never dieted before.
V.Low carbs but high protein and veg has made me feel full so not wanting to snack.
Losing 1.5-2lb per week has given me motivation to continue.
No calorie counting, no extra exercise.

I did when I quit dieting forever because long-term, it is proven to actually cause weight gain.

The book Intuitive Eating by evelyn Tribole helped me and NoFoodRules on Instagram.

Wegovy. It was the reset I needed to snap me out of the rut I'd got myself into.

What is RH?

It's a weight loss plan.
Basically you calorie count and do a lot of steps while paying some vile, gobby cunt to abuse you for anything less than perfect compliance.

What is RH?

Team RH is an online fitness and nutrition coaching company, based in the North East.

It's called Team RH because those are the initials of both people who created it.

Walk, walk and walk some more. At your weight (no offence intended) even gentle exercise will burn a lot of calories. Ditch the sugar and the snacks, swap your milk to skimmed, smaller portions, little changes can make a lot of difference.

Diggetydawg · 02/04/2024 10:20

16/8 Intermittent Fasting and calorie counting. Tracked calories on Nutracheck app using James Smith calorie allowance, counted steps on my fitness watch and aimed for at least 8000 a day. The weight came off slowly but surely and has stayed off for a year now. I think IF is great, it's a lifestyle for me now and it really me keep within my calories.

Chickoletta · 02/04/2024 10:23

Slimming World worked for me. Lost 2.5 stone and am now at a healthy weight. I keep it off by using general SW principles (although I don’t count syns any more) and intermittent fasting. I don’t eat anything until 11.00 every day. Works for me as I’m not really a breakfast person.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 02/04/2024 10:25

Me. I joined Weightwatchers (not on it now), my best friend who’s a similar size to you is on keto and lost almost a stone. Another friend has done lighter life and oxempic, lighter life was the best for her as she dropped at least 2-3 dress sizes and thought she was getting too slim at a size 14 - she’s about 5 ft 7.

londonloves · 02/04/2024 11:50

The Team RH bashing is predictable but it works for a lot of people. Yes if you're previous about swearing it won't be for you but the truth is that most people are overweight because they eat too much and don't move enough. If you don't like it fine, this thread shows that there are lots of different methods to suit different people. But science is science. IF works becuase it creates a calorie deficit. Team RH works becuase it creates a calorie deficit. But you have to be consistent and honest with yourself about what you're consuming.

I didn’t ‘bash’ it, just a factual account of my experience. I’m a normal nice person that didn’t have a good outcome with a service and gave my account of it. I don’t think I have any controversial opinion of it, based on other reviews I’ve seen. Also not precious about swearing at all. Not too keen on the ‘Betty Big Knickers’ cringey style of women shaming though, didn’t help me lose weight. Each to their own though.

SunnySunnySunny · 02/04/2024 14:58

I went from a size 18 to 14 last summer/autumn. I ate three meals each day with very few carbs, it was the easiest diet I’ve done. My weight has remained constant since November and I’ve been on a few holidays since then.

Did anyone count calories ?

Have been counting calories since jan 1st and 25lbs down.

I stick to 1670 calories a day.

effoffwind · 02/04/2024 17:09

I agree with the RH comments
I'm not precious about swearing and quite like the no nonsense straight talking until I saw a very simple question about calories answered on Facebook like this " well what do you think you fat cunt , ooooo I don't care if you work from home and your dog is dead , move your arse and it'll not wobble behind you "

That is a genuine response from him and it wasn't even a stupid question
Now while that would just piss me off , I worry for someone prone to eating disorders or self esteem problems and the damage it could cause

Each to their own I suppose

Bootstoots · 02/04/2024 17:32

Fast Like A Girl is a good book about the many benefits of fasting (both intermittent and longer fasts) but tailored specifically for women. She tells you how to time it in with hormones (men can get better fasting results by fasting on any given day but we need to vary the fasting lengths a bit more). She also has tips on how to get started e.g. move breakfast an hour later every few days, what you are allowed during the fasting period, etc. It's on Audible/Kindle as well and she has lots of free info on YouTube. It's good for weight loss but also repairing the body in many different ways and preventing more serious diseases. If you couple fasting times with some healthier meal options (there's also recipes in the book) and some gentle exercise, you'll be losing in no time. Good luck!

Endoproblems · 02/04/2024 17:34

Gave up wheat/gluten and only eat breakfast lunch and dinner no snacks at all never eat after 6pm

TigerRag · 02/04/2024 17:46

I did ...I used my fitness pal free version. Easy to scan bar codes.

cardibach · 02/04/2024 18:05

I lost 2 stone then plateaued (was a size 22 -that made me a 20). I joined Slimpod and it’s moving again. It’s all about internal changing and mindset.

@upanddowns by real food, I mean anything that’s not processed - fruit, veg, lean meat, grains, lentils, sweet potatoes, spices etc. There are no refined carbs like rice, pasta, white bread. You can eat things like wholemeal wraps and greek yogurt which I suppose are processed, as well as vegan options like quorn etc.

Obviously you can’t just eat as much “real food” as you like - the premise of the Six Pack Revolution is that you eat 3 x meals and 3 x snacks a day using the recipes from the programme and measure ingredients using your hands:

meals are made up of a palm size and thickness piece of protein (chicken/fish etc or a palm and a half of a veggie alternative like Quorn), a handful of healthy carbs (veg) and a teaspoon of olive/coconut/sesame seed oil or half an avocado.

That’s the basic idea - but there’s no calorie counting at all.

1dayatatime · 03/04/2024 23:13

10,000 steps a day minimum- would try to get more up to 15,000.

Skipped evening meals because by the time I had sorted out DC bedtimes, tidied up etc then finished any outstanding work/ emails/ legal drafts it was gone 11 and I wanted to sleep more than I wanted to eat.
