If you could only save one, and the other would disappear overnight...

Marks and Spencer or Waitrose/John Lewis?

Same here with the M&S jeans fitting me, they are about the only ones I can ever find. And having today been to a different M&S in another town that I hadn't been to before, my vote would definitely be to keep Marks & Sparks and jettison JL/W.

Laughing at the people saying Booths, it's almost 200 miles to our nearest one, I assume they are in cheaper areas. 😂

Puzzlefactor · 26/02/2024 21:46

I've never bought anything from JL in my life. I'm more of a B & M kind of woman. I do sometimes shop in M & S though. But as I'm not MC I don't think my opinion will count.

They’re all in posh towns, mostly around Lancashire.

Middle class northerners then? Fascinating.
As for the original question I'd have to say M and S because there are 4 closer to me than Waitrose, but I don't think either are particularly special. Andrex bog roll is the same wherever you buy it.

FoodieToo · 26/02/2024 22:17

Cannot believe someone would actually post this !!!

CharlotteStreetW1 · 26/02/2024 22:24

I don't think I'm middle class (unless there's a lower middle class 😂) but I shop in Waitrose most days and I haven't bought anything from M&S since lockdown. So I'm saving Waitrose/JL (although the nearest JL is bloody miles away).

willowstar · 26/02/2024 22:27

Absolutely keep Waitrose/John Lewis. Waitrose most ethical supermarket and I just love it. Simple.

No worries. Years ago on here you could joke about such things but there is so many snobby people on here now that look down on people. Humour has gone. I did take you wrong initially.

Not quite accurate. You could merrily ‘joke’ about it back in the day because MN consisted entirely of Sloane ranger yummy mummies who had never met a real working class person (other than the staff), let alone thought about where the unwashed riff raff might shop.

Booths. I'd save Booths. Better than both M&S or Waitrose.

I don't think mention of Booths on this thread should be allowed - it's Northern-centric and exclusionary!

usernother · 27/02/2024 15:04

Sorry, I'm working class but I shop (carefully) at those places. I'd save M&S because on Mondays they have loads of yellow sticker bargains.

SplodgeOfCustard · 06/03/2024 14:51

I've never understood the love for John Lewis.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 06/03/2024 14:51

Waitrose/JL for me.
