Or do you tuck in now?

My normally exchange Easter Eggs on Easter Sunday here, so at Easter here. Only way I can eat an Easter Egg now is to go out, buy one and eat it.

Toblerbone · 24/02/2024 08:03

Yes, we wait till Easter Sunday.

Moosegooseontheloose · 24/02/2024 08:05

I’d eat it on the day I was given it because I’m a chocoholic and can’t help it.

Moosegooseontheloose · 24/02/2024 08:10

I fact, all this talk about Easter egg chocolate being different and better has put me in the mood for one.
I’ll have to nip out to the corner shop and test one for myself today.

ThreeRingCircus · 24/02/2024 08:12

Big Easter eggs only on Easter Sunday (or afterwards) as they're a present for that day and it's nice keeping them as special for DDs. If we ate them from now they would no longer feel like a treat.

Hot cross buns, mini eggs, maltesers bunnies etc we eat whenever.

I don’t get an Easter Egg but I do tuck into mini eggs beforehand.

I haven't bought any yet to give, the offer on the large eggs at tesco is until the 5th. I'm not sure if another offer will follow? Has anyone else noticed what a rip off XL eggs are? Large, around 200g, are £3, on offer for £2. XL are barely any bigger, the Cadbury creme one is the same hollow egg with two creme eggs instead of one, for £5!

Thanks to you I visited Tesco and had a Mini Eggs egg for dinner last night. The £2 ones are a bargain!

BurbageBrook · 24/02/2024 09:13

I tend to buy myself a couple of small ones as treats before Easter. Easter egg chocolate is just so much nicer!

Hoglet70 · 24/02/2024 09:16

As a kid my Mum wouldn't have dreamt of letting us have anything Easter related before Easter Sunday. Even Hot Cross Buns any day but Good Friday would have been a travesty! As a result, in my house we eat Easter related crap from the second it appears in the shops. Pass me the Creme Eggs someone...

TokyoSushi · 24/02/2024 09:17

I have a little bit of an Easter feast early on, not necessarily an egg, but plenty of mini eggs, creme eggs etc. Then I do no chocolate for lent, then I have the actual eggs on Easter Sunday and beyond, so a 2 part Easter, if you will!

Hoplolly · 24/02/2024 09:19

Yes, actual Easter Eggs are from Easter Sunday onwards. Creme Eggs and Mini Eggs though are fair game at any point.

Marchintospring · 24/02/2024 09:22

GoosieLucie · 21/02/2024 20:09

Why would anyone have Easter eggs in the house now, unless keeping them for giving as gifts to other people at Easter? Surely people tend to wait until Easter before giving them? 🤔

This.
Any I get given beforehand get eaten on Easter Sunday and afterwards as intended. Otherwise it’s just chocolate and there’s no point to it.
Bit like people who eat all the chocolate from advent calendars early.

shivbo2014 · 24/02/2024 09:27

I eat an Easter egg a few times a week at this time of year. Easter egg chocolate tastes nicer than normal chocolate so I'm not saving it for one day! I do hide it from the kids though, they're not allowed them until Easter to make it more exciting for them.

Willmafrockfit · 24/02/2024 09:28

i have been buying and eating mini eggs for a few weeks, well, twice,
i sort of have an intention of sending to dd, but cannot resist eating them.

Willmafrockfit · 24/02/2024 09:29

i also refuse to buy hot cross buns until closer to easter

AuntieMarys · 24/02/2024 09:30

Always opened ours Good Friday back in the 60s. Not religious 😀

scalt · 24/02/2024 11:54

My family had the rule that eggs should only be eaten at Easter; but any other chocolate was fair game, even during Lent. If you received an egg before Easter (perhaps at school), you were supposed to put it in the kitchen cupboard (with your name on) for the hunt. We took turns to hunt, and there was a special (light hearted) penalty for anyone who had cheated and eaten eggs before Easter: you had to hunt for your eggs blindfolded! 🙈 One year, when Easter was very late, all of us did this, deciding the hunt would be more fun that way.

sprigatito · 24/02/2024 11:57

They are arranged on the dining room table with daffodils, Easter cake and a spring tablecloth on Easter Sunday morning - nobody eats any before then!

peppapigpeppa · 24/02/2024 12:27

LittleBearPad · 21/02/2024 20:10

Why would you eat Easter eggs now? Just buy a bar of chocolate. It will be cheaper

Actually not, you can get a small easter egg for £1.25 or £1 in most supermarkets and these are cheaper cost/gram than a choc bar (which can be about 90p)

Moier · 24/02/2024 12:32

@NNotmySundaybest
I have bought easter eggs for myself this last month and eaten them.. ( the £1.25 small cadbury ones).. something about the egg chocolate that seems more yummy and you get mini eggs or something inside and is cheaper than a bar of chocolate.
You're not alone . I can't buy the present ones now though.. too tempting .😋

Mammma91 · 24/02/2024 12:34

Usually, I wait until Easter weekend. But I’m heavily pregnant and have found myself shamelessly sneaking one in with the food shop. Maybe next year I’ll have more self control!

GreenEyedMonsterMunch · 24/02/2024 12:44

Bloomingdaffs · 21/02/2024 20:40

I chuck them in my trolley when they are on offer in Tesco. To give out at easter, but have been known to eat a couple and have to replace them.

This! And yes, chocolate in egg form is far superior to bars. I've bougt a few from Tesco as they usually go up in cluncard price nearer easter. They're in the boot of the car though as I know I'll just open one when I want. So far I've had one egg on a night away recently as it was a treat. I'll definitely have more before Easter.

egowise · 24/02/2024 13:04

I don't buy them now, precisely because I would eat them.

peppapigpeppa · 24/02/2024 16:02

@GreenEyedMonsterMunch I have left them in boot before and they've melted !

Also for those of you saying just buy them a few days before, i used to do this but a few years ago i got caught out as all the kids-size ones (which was what i needed for family's kids) were all sold out everywhere
