What attracts you to a man?

Easygoing thread. No deep or meaningful reasons to my question. I am saying this before anyone bashes me for something that is really not a big deal just a genuine question about a general topic!
I know we all have different tastes, quite rightly so.
I was just watching the ITVX series 'Deadwater Fell'. With David Tennant as the main character. His character has obviously been sleeping around in the show and I find myself a bit repulsed as I can't imagine anyone wanting to sleep with him 🙈. So skinny and unmanly!
But, obviously there are women out there who find that look attractive. I also acknowledge that the men I find attractive wouldn't be everyone's taste.
So just a curiosity question really. Are looks important to you at all when choosing a romantic partner?
I know personality is the main thing.
I do believe however, there has to be at least some physical attraction as well. Surely that's what's draws us to even consider someone as a romantic partner rather than just an acquaintance or colleague etc?

Physically I don't have a type but I tend to go for men who are a bit different. I like handsome features but I like someone who looks a bit different and not too perfect. I really fancy the actor Evan Peters. He is not what I would exactly call male model material but he has such a sexy smile and there's just something about the way he comes across that is very warm, engaging and sexy. Someone who is aesthetically perfect but cold, doesn't turn me on.

Bigearringsbigsmile · 16/02/2024 11:42

Tall....I am very tall for a woman so has to be taller than me
Clean shaven- beards repulse me
No tattoos
Bit posh- I like a well spoken man and I also don't like men who swear a lot

Nice smile
Hairy forearms

Augustus40 · 16/02/2024 11:45

Yes no beards for me either plus a posh voice is another plus point.

If Im just going on looks then dark eyes, dark skin, good arms, Idris Elba x 20 (but then also rather like Jack Black ... and Colin Firth so complete opposites). There just has to be..... 'something'.

Omg, are you me?! You just described it more perfectly than I could put into words!

If I had to pick two traits I'd say intelligence and kindness. All the other stuff like looks can change over time but those two won't.

Jason118 · 16/02/2024 12:11

Can you all please slow down, I need another sheet of paper for my list of 'things I need to do'😂

StarTwirl · 16/02/2024 12:14

Sexy and charismatic

An alpha manly man. One that looks like he's going to throw me around the bedroom 😂 obviously these are not key elements to a lifelong partnership, but attractive to me all the same!
Oh and hygiene is super important too.

Omg this made me laugh! I'm 5"3 and I once dated a 6"7 man and I remember thinking 'he could literally pick me up and throw me to the ground killing me! Which I know is technically not the right thing to think but I found it sexy.. because I knew he wouldn't do that. I liked the big man/smaller woman aspect. I blame watching Beauty and the beast 🤣

I like smart, geeky men. Really dislike pumped up muscles.

bringincrazyback · 16/02/2024 12:19

Intelligence, a nice smile, an absence of sexism, and an ability to empathise.

'Textbook' good looks - not necessarily.

Osidge · 16/02/2024 12:20

@Britpop123 you are absolutely correct. I'm sorry. I should have worded it better.
It's just not my personal taste.
I grew up with a body guard as my father so therefore I tend to equate size with manliness. But I do agree that size has nothing to do with it.

Ooh love a posh voice. There is something to be said about Colin Firth and Hugh Grant.. even though they are definitely not physically my type. Their voice could woo me 😅

Brain, wit, extensive vocabulary, hill walking and eating sandwiches with a flask of tea on a hilltop, board games, video games, must enjoy impromptu singing in some circumstances. Must also be willing to share bags of crisps and visit battlefields, museums and antique shops.

Physical, dark hair, slim and unbeknown to me at time of looking but I do adore grey green eyes, DH has them. I joke about them being limpet pools instead of limpid pools.

Must be hygienic but nothing more than combing hair, I can’t be doing with overly groomed men. Must also despise wasting money, now this is very subjective it could be £1 it could be £1000 but is it good value?

You have just described my DP to an absolute T, down to the dark hair and green eyes 😅 so I am going to use your answer as my own!

WeeOrcadian · 16/02/2024 12:28

Jason Momoa

End of

FindingMeno · 16/02/2024 14:07

I guess looks wise I'm not keen on suits or a bloke who spends more time in front of the mirror than me.
I like a certain arty scruffiness. Definitely not habitual tracksuit bottoms wearers.

Osidge · 16/02/2024 14:17

@thebestinterest my apologies. I thought you were being sarcastic with the whole 'chiseled jaw line' comment 🤣

I've always gone for the more unusual type, someone a bit of a handful, quick witted, a bit of charisma, I don't mean charming, I find charming quite fake. Looks wise I do prefer a tall man, I'm tall myself, but it's not totally essential. Like most have said, looks fade, personality is forever.

MimsyBorogroves · 16/02/2024 14:59

I used to like slim, geeky, intellectual types. Now I'm in my 40s, I've had a complete change and LOVE a practical man - someone who can fix stuff and take charge a bit.

Nice forearms, tattoos, a twinkle in the eye. Cheeky, daring and someone who makes me laugh.

Osidge · 16/02/2024 16:39

@Globules yours are wildly different! I love that though! Mine would be Morris Chestnut. Channing Tatum and Allen Iverson.
