Shit dinner thread

Couldn't be asked to cook today. Long day at work and just generally knackered. I thought I did pretty good rustling this up in less than 45 mins (considering I was really close to ordering takeout) but according to DM, it is a 'shit dinner.'

Any other shit dinners to share or does everyone else eat 5* gourmet 7 days a week?

Often buy the supermarket premade pigs in blankets and just have those on it's own.

That looks nice! I had haggis, neeps and mash, it was shit and reminded why I haven't eaten that meal on burns night for years.

I'm just sitting down to my haggis, mashed potato, and swede as well.

Caswallonthefox · 25/01/2024 21:12

That is not a shit dinner!
I had scrambled eggs with cheese and tomato mixed in, slapped between 2 slices of bread.
Yesterday I had cheese and tomato toasties.
Tell your mum that you'll happily eat anything she cooks for you, but until that happens you'll eat what you want. 😁

I also cook more 'from scratch' than my mother did when I was growing up. If it didn't come out if a box we didn't eat it, unless it was a special occasion.

UnravellingTheWorld · 25/01/2024 21:18

You put more effort into dinner than I did! Husband cooks in our house and he's away, so I chucked some pasta, brocolli, and cooked chicken into a saucepan. Then drowned it in grated cheese.

Total cooking time (including prep and plating): 15 min

travelallthetime · 25/01/2024 21:18

bowl of cereal....i dont even like cereal

TeatimeBiscuits · 25/01/2024 21:20

We also had Idaho mash with Ikea meatballs and peas. Yum yum. I can never be bothered to cook on a Thursday, I run out of steam

onwardandupwards · 25/01/2024 21:23

The contents of a gregs to good to go bag!

Jook · 25/01/2024 21:26

Last night’s leftover chilli on a jacket potato with grated cheese on top.

My tired shit dinner go-to is jumbo fishfingers and chips in the air fryer with mayo. I can’t even be arsed to do peas on those nights.

If you went to the trouble of peeling potatoes, chopping them and boiling them for mash, then the rest does indeed make it a shit dinner.

I chopped up and boiled the broccoli too 😩

Slight tangent but I went out for a drink with people tonight and drank more wine than I should have. I stopped at Maccy D's on the way home and had filet o fish, fries and garlic cheesy bites.

I haven't told my family and yet I'm supposed to be knocking up a haggis feast in a minute. 😬

I had fish and oven chips. Really lazy tea!

@Stockinggg the only thing I would criticise about your dinner is the lack of gravy! I like gallons if it.

Yup sling a pile o'beige in the oven, walk away for 20 minutes, then boil up some frozen peas, open a jar of mayo for added style. We quite like that.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 25/01/2024 21:45

I had a Greggs corned beef pasty with Branston beans. DH had two Greggs sausage rolls.

PandaChopChop · 25/01/2024 21:54

I didn't have dinner. 🤣

I did have an enormous overpriced fish finger sandwich and chips for lunch though at the pub.
Was OK but wasn't great. Nothing better than bird's-eye fish fingers in bread in my book 🤣

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 25/01/2024 21:58

I also had a lazy meal. Supermarket preprepared cous cous and a salad box with fancy chicken dippers. Aldi something or other in tempura batter they were nice.

scotstarstrikestwo · 25/01/2024 21:58

I had 2 rounds of cheese sandwiches with a squirt of salad cream and ready salted crisps inside. White bread obvs

BuffaloDance2000 · 25/01/2024 21:58

Homemade Cauliflower cheese (without cheese in the sauce-prepped yesterday), a handful of salt and pepper fries which I love, chucked into the airfryer, with a small side salad with lettuce, tomatoes and grated carrot. Not forgetting a copious amount of Heinz tomato ketchup. And two glasses of Pinot.

I’ve been inspired by the shit teas on the thread. I’m full of the cold and couldn’t be arsed making the haggis etc we’d planned so fed the kids earlier and thought I might have a crisp piece. Instead I’m making a bacon, brie and chilli jam sandwich and I think it’ll make my night.

Phwoar, that sounds like a fantastic sandwich combo.

Easipeelerie · 25/01/2024 22:01

I had a meat pie from Lidl.

JollyJanuary · 25/01/2024 22:07

Aldi fake s&v squares (very peculiar) and a yum yum

pumpkinpiee · 25/01/2024 19:55

Chicken Kiev/Kyiv, mash and peas 😋

Oooh one of my fave comfort meals (basically anything with mash!)

VikingLady · 25/01/2024 22:12

I had the fish fingers DS didn't want for dinner, the shaved heel of a chunk of posh sheep's cheese that's just too nice to chuck out, the end of a bag of salted peanuts, one chicken tikka skewer that needed eating and a pack of cherries.

I'm finishing what's in the fridge before we go shopping and am severely lacking in inspiration. I'm calling it tapas.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 25/01/2024 22:15

It is Thursday.
It is January.
It is cold and wet.
You did a brilliant job.
Who else is cooking dinner tomorrow?

Often buy the supermarket premade pigs in blankets and just have those on it's own.

I'm planning on that for breakfast, dunked in home made cranberry sauce from Christmas. I still have eight jars.

Shania7788 · 25/01/2024 22:23

Ordered a pasta bake from the supermarket as a treat (don’t usually eat meat, dairy or gluten but really fancied it), was sooo looking forward to it. Wasn’t available, no substitutes available apparently, so I had “sag aloo pie” and salmon. The “pie” bit turned out to be mash like a fish pie, not pastry. More disappointment. It was fine, if all a bit mushy, but it wasn’t beef mince, real pasta and melted cheese 😭😭
