Shit dinner thread

Couldn't be asked to cook today. Long day at work and just generally knackered. I thought I did pretty good rustling this up in less than 45 mins (considering I was really close to ordering takeout) but according to DM, it is a 'shit dinner.'

Any other shit dinners to share or does everyone else eat 5* gourmet 7 days a week?

Yes it's a shit dinner.
Once in a while is ok.

Ponder the phrase 'a while.'

I’ve been inspired by the shit teas on the thread. I’m full of the cold and couldn’t be arsed making the haggis etc we’d planned so fed the kids earlier and thought I might have a crisp piece. Instead I’m making a bacon, brie and chilli jam sandwich and I think it’ll make my night.

Yesterday it was all out of the freezer. Spicy beanburgers, potato waffles, frozen veg. The burger buns were originally frozen too. Couldn't be arsed.

What is Idaho instant mash and is it different from just instant mash?

I buy Idahoan brand mash, and it's brilliant.

Doesn't taste as powdery as Smash and other instant mashes!

Margaritavillee · 25/01/2024 20:31

I had homemade pizza. Not fancy though as it was pre made dough from Lidl topped with bbq sauce and chorizo. Took 5 minutes to prepare and 20 minutes to cook. Nice and easy

We didn’t need this pointing out btw.

But some people may have thought it was asked, not arsed.

No harm pointing it out. 👍

I have post covid fatigue, so we have had a variety of crap dinners recently, including frozen pizza twice, filled pasta and sauce, freezer fish and chips. Tonight I collapsed on the sofa after work, so adult ds rooted in the freezer - we had chilli and pork casserole with rice - not enough of either previously homemade and frozen main for all 3 of us, so he decided we'd have a bit of both.
Was a bit weird, and the casserole had been languishing in the freezer for a while because I knew it had been one of my less successful bottom of the fridge bung it in the slow cooker concoctions and I wasn't fussed about eating it again!

SuperFurryCat · 25/01/2024 20:34

I had fish and oven chips. Really lazy tea!

@Stockinggg the only thing I would criticise about your dinner is the lack of gravy! I like gallons if it.

It's " arsed" not " asked". Sorry.

I had this exact conversation with my daughter as she says can't be asked!!

Started the week strongly with spinach and ricotta stuffed chicken breasts. First time making it and it was delicious.

The next night we had turkey breasts with some homemade stuffing and homemade yourkshire puds I had in the freezer.

Went downhill with a Chinese last night (though tbf I had chop suey with no chips and no rice).

Then today I have totally lost my groove - the kids had waffles and fish fingers. Me and DH just had a burger with a side of a second burger :)

NoDefinatelyNotThankyou · 25/01/2024 20:38

Pigs in blankets, cream cheese stuffed bell peppers, half a ploughmans pot thing from Aldi & a squirt of mayo
Half a croissant and strawberry jam for my pudding
Oat milk decaff lattè and a digestive for bed time

OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 25/01/2024 20:40

I had a big cookie and a slice of DS chicken and bacon shop bought pizza.

Excitingnewusername · 25/01/2024 20:42

DH had fish and chips he picked up on his walk home and I had beans on toast. It has taken me years to convince him I actually really like beans on toast, prefer them to a chippy tea, and am not being weirdly self-sacrificing.

CatamaranViper · 25/01/2024 20:43

I just had a fish finger sandwich

ghostbusters · 25/01/2024 20:52

Haggis neeps and tatties here which was far from shit (sorry).

One day last week I had a bacon roll with chips, 2 cans of Pepsi Max then a Crunchie for afters. No fruit or veg, and double carbs. That was also delicious but completely shit!

Dreamingofgreece · 25/01/2024 20:53

Anything with mashed potato is a yes from me!

It really makes smash look like wallpaper paste. It's very yummy. Buy the extra butter version, use slightly less water than it says and then top up with more butter.....

Princesspollyyy · 25/01/2024 20:54

If you went to the trouble of peeling potatoes, chopping them and boiling them for mash, then the rest does indeed make it a shit dinner.

StolenCookie · 25/01/2024 20:57

Umm I’d honestly be thrilled with that meal!

I had oven fish and chips. No dessert in the house so ate Nutella with a spoon..

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 25/01/2024 21:00

I had sausages (that should have been eaten yesterday-oops) with tomato sauce and a bonne mamam creme caramel, because I am posh. 😏Tbh, if I served up chicken nuggets, mash and gravy, my family would think I’d lost the plot. Fried shit goes with chips.

0psiedasiy · 25/01/2024 21:01

Greggs sausage roll (frozen from iceland) chips and beans it was lovely

Luckydog7 · 25/01/2024 21:01

Fakeaway, our local curry house is too expensive so usually get sainos Currys, boil my own rice and make a side of Gobi sagg (couliflour and spinach) paneer fried in a tonne of ghee for authenticity.

Secnarf · 25/01/2024 21:02

Daughter wouldn’t eat fajitas the other day, so I took a wrap, spread it with tomato purée, sliced some cheddar on top, folded it in half and heated in a dry pan. Called it quesadilla, and she gobbled it up nicely.

it was so successful that I came home from work yesterday to find my husband had replicated it for all of us.

NSJ28 · 25/01/2024 21:02

Ive had a shit night so i had the pastry from 4 mini sausage rolls (dont like the meat), a bag of smoky bacon crisps and a breakaway.
