Intense celebrity crush: menopause or madness

I previously considered myself a pretty sensible 40 year old. I went, as is tradition, with my DH & DCs to the Christmas panto.
I was really not expecting to develop the most intense weak-at-the knees teenage-style crush on the panto baddie (who was the most amazing actor and extremely attractive, but probably a decade younger than me and wearing a really bad wig). I keep obsessively googling to see photos of him and I’m starting to feel that I’m going mad.
Has anyone else every experienced this? Is it my age, will it pass?

my menopause hormone induced crush was Benedict cumberbatch….it coincided with Sherlock. I was obsessed. Poor long suffering dh had to go see him in hamlet.

slower burn less obsessive David Tennant crush at moment…. So constantly refreshing the donmar Macbeth ticket page.

there must be something evolutionary in it.

but I don’t mind it keeps stuff interesting.

I bet OP’s crush is Gareth Gates. He is looking fine nowadays!

If we’re talking about fanny gallops, I am obsessed with Stuart Martin who looks like a younger Hugh Jackman.

Ohhhh yes.
Love love love him in Miss Scarlet and The Duke!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Just enjoy it . I have a definite crush and recently saw the person at a gig . Embarrassing as I screamed ( along with many many others ) I am in my 60s . But I felt like a teenager again . It was lovely .

Donny Osmond? My chum similar age still goes all funny when he's mentioned.

I think hormones definitely do weird things pre-menopause. I’m mid forties and have had some bizarre strong crushes recently - on a celebrity, or a friend of a friend - to a much greater extent than previously.

And objectively I know the men I have the crushes on are not even that attractive. It’s as though my hormones have realised it’s their last chance pre menopause and so are giving it all they’ve got, if that makes any sense!

My money’s on Woody - he’s still touring with the new Bay City Rollers.

I'm currently in love with Jack Lowden. Absolutely justified

I've met him. He's very nice. And taller than I expected.

Tezza1 · 12/01/2024 22:12

@ShinyBandana I remember being very, very impressed with Ian Somerhalder in the early series of "Lost.

Currently rewatching League of Gentlemen the last month and am completely crushing on Reece Shearsmith, how did I not notice him first time around. As Benjamin and Ross he's gorgeous 😍

Jook · 12/01/2024 22:43

Unless Tom Hardy is moonlighting as the wicked stepmother, I wont be feeling it.

I also have a bit of a thing for Reece Shersmith!

I developed an intense crush on a minor celeb about 4 years ago (I was mid 40s) and it is still going strong now! He is on telly once a week which keeps feeding the obsession and have been to see him at live shows a few times. DH is very understanding about this 🤣

He is from quite a niche profession so 90% of the population would not know him but one of his good friends (also not well known by the general public) has been mentioned on here 😮 obviously the charisma is strong with them both 😉

KievLoverTwo · 12/01/2024 22:57

I crushed deep and hard on Cillian Murphy when I was in my mid to late thirties. No sign of meno more than ten years later.

In hindsight I think I was probably just really lonely after a series of bad, unhealthy relationships.

I still have celeb crushes but they're nothing like they were before - been in a relationship for five years.

daliesque · 12/01/2024 22:58

Ore embarrassingly I went to a meeting at the RCP and one of the three scientists that we all became familiar with during the pandemic was there....

My heart galloped. It was a complete shock and I was obsessed for ages. I'm also too embarrassed to say who it was but there's a short list as it was one who was on TV a lot and not a politician 🤣🤣

Saw him again at the covid inquiry - on you tube I'd tuned in especially 🙈🫢 and yep...still attractive to me.

I have not dared confess to my partner. His "pass" is Nigella Lawson which I kind of understand. He wouldn't get my crush at all.

I think it’s best not to share a photo of this panto god. I don’t want to be the cause of a riot or pantoitis pandemic 🤣

Safe to say, it’s not a Chuckle brother 🤣🤣

Christopher Biggins?

ButteryBiscuitBaseBiscuitBase · 12/01/2024 23:08

At least he is a real, living, breathing human and not an animated character. I'm saying no more 😳

DopeyS · 12/01/2024 23:18

I am late 30s and get loads of little crushes that can be intense then go. Married but just seems to be a hormone fluctuation thing. Currently obsessed with David Meunier from Justified.
Also had a horrendous crush on Matt Hancock during the pandemic and it's lingered but also intensely dislike him.

My type has changed as I've got older too. Like older men and have a thing for workmen types with work trousers and tattoos. Very much describes my husband but I work on building sites too 😂 during ovulation it's a nightmare 😂

Where was Ashley Banjo? I’d go and see him every night if he was local to me.

LikeagoddamnVampire · 13/01/2024 00:24

@Claymorekick why not just name him? It's anonymous on here anyway. And you can name change if it's Really Really embarrassing Grin

Sureaseggs44 · 13/01/2024 00:35

Not donny osmond . More rock than pop

SugarMiceInTheRain · 13/01/2024 00:38

So glad it's not just me getting ridiculous crushes in my 40s. Not just on celebrities but also on people I know. It's really time consuming and distracting!

SheerLucks · 13/01/2024 00:58

Yes of course! Celebrities, guys on checkouts etc.

It's fun but it will pass..,

Our DHs probably do this times ten!
