Tony's Chocolonely?

Who knew? Or is it just me?

I’ve only tried it once as it’s expensive. Reminded me of the chocolate out the character advent calendar/easter eggs. Kinnerton is it called?

Tiffanysepiphany · 19/12/2023 02:01

It reminds me of kinnerton a bit too. To me it’s somewhere in the middle of kinnerton and 80s era Yorkie which is a shame as I had high expectations. I don’t think it’s that palm oil has killed my tastebuds , as I love fancy chocolate generally ,I just don’t get the hype around Tony’s . Also, the shape drives me nuts , the weird Crazy paving breakage pattern is somehow so spiky and annoying.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 19/12/2023 02:05

I'm amazed at so many people who hate it. I can understand if you don't think it's anything special or any better than cheaper chocolate from the huge internationals, but it doesn't taste all that different to me. I think the Yorkie comparison upthread is a good one.

I wish they'd make the wrapper colours differentiating the flavours more obvious, as I've found it remarkably easy to buy the salted caramel by mistake. Salted caramel is a shameful travesty of good taste.

FatherJackHackettsUnderpantsHamper · 19/12/2023 02:07

To be fair, I actually quite like the Kinnerton's chocolate. Maybe I'm just uncouth and easy to please!

I agree on the crazy different sized and shaped pieces, though. We get the point, but now it's just got old and annoying.

Stressedafff · 19/12/2023 02:07

It’s such a nice tasting chocolate but for me it’s just too expensive. I’m on euroshopper milk chocolate with hazelnuts in. That one’s my fave and it’s 49p a bar!

AutumnComfort · 19/12/2023 02:08

I thought it was choconelly 🤔

I like kinnerton too! Chocolate is chocolate to me I won’t turn any of it down

nongnangning · 19/12/2023 02:36

Try the yellow one. It's basically a Toblerone but nicer.

I thought it was choconelly 🤔

The company had originally planned to brand it as 'Chocogoogoo', but Limahl threatened to sue them for every penny they had.

MrsJamin · 19/12/2023 03:14

We love it, I've no idea why people don't like it! The bright pink one is delicious. We went to Amsterdam and their shop/cafe is fabulous. Warm chocolate on tap!

RosaCaramella · 19/12/2023 04:38

I became addicted to the two Ben and Jerry’s flavours. So rich and incredibly moreish to me. Then I found out I had gallstones…and that put an end to Tony’s for me!

Chimmo · 19/12/2023 04:45

I wanted to like it but wasn’t a fan of the taste and I find the whole gimmicky awkward bar shape annoying when you’re trying to break bits off.

Highnone · 19/12/2023 04:54

All the instamums used to ‘love it’ and ‘couldn’t get enough of it’

clearly they were all selling it through undeclared ads.

Pickles2023 · 19/12/2023 04:56

I love it..but people saying its like yorkie, yorkie is my favourite chocolate so that might be why 😂

Bingobatman · 19/12/2023 05:06

I’m surprised and a bit sad that it is getting such a pasting on here. I would have thought that a brand of ethical chocolate, with a name that I would have thought would pique curiosity along with a format that demonstrates the issue (unequal earnibgsetc) would be welcomed! Personally I like the taste too, which is obviously crucial for a chocolate product. Overall I think it’s great. Why wouldn’t you want fair trade chocolate that has been created to reduce slavery within its sector. And if you don’t like the taste or product shape, why slag it off, rather than at least appreciate its aims? Hard to be hopeful about the future if these comments represent current attitudes. Sad!

Hedjwitch · 19/12/2023 05:09

Hate the name, the garish wrapping...and the taste.
But each to their own

ScrambledEggForBrains · 19/12/2023 05:41

We got it from a elderly friend who lives on his own “actually called Tony” 2 Christmases ago and thought he was sending us a subtle message.

People criticise lots of things, ‘ethical brands’ aren’t exempt.

I love it, it always seems to draw a lot of hate on here, possibly because it makes people feel guilty they prefer chocolate made my slaves and like it too much to give it up.

No, it’s just cause it tastes a bit shit

Tony's isn't a slave-free chocolate either.

I purchased a bar for the first time the other day and ate the whole damn thing 😂😫 I’ve never dug into any other type of chocolate like that before.

Underthesea65 · 18/12/2023 23:04

That is Chocolonely and not chocoloney

I knew that. It has it written on it.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 19/12/2023 06:15

I wish they’d make thinner bars of it!

BobnLen · 19/12/2023 06:22

I like it but not the bar shapes. I find it difficult to break and it make a bit of a mess with small bits breaking off, I always call it loney rather than lonely even though I know the proper name. I buy it when it is on offer
