Who knew? Or is it just me?

The explanation…
”Teun decided to lead by example and make 5,000 Fairtrade chocolate bars himself. Tony's Chocolonely was born. And because he felt like he was the only guy in the chocolate industry that cared about eradicating slavery from the industry, he named his chocolate “Chocolonely”.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 18/12/2023 23:35

It’s horrible stuff. I can’t see why people make such a fuss over it.

Pokinganose · 18/12/2023 23:36

It's disgusting chocolate so yes it will be lonely as no one will want to buy it!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 18/12/2023 23:39

It's fabulous chocolate! You've clearly all had your tastebuds killed with palm oil 🤣

GigiAnnna · 18/12/2023 23:39

It's bland and I nearly broke my teeth biting into it.

ExpensiveDecorations · 18/12/2023 23:43

It's always been called Chocolonely hasn't it? I don't like it either, tastes really waxy and bland.

Caszekey · 18/12/2023 23:49

I but it my hubby cos he's called Tony
I thought it was chocoloney not chocolonely so now I'll only buy it when I go away

Alloveragain3 · 18/12/2023 23:49

I've always read it as Chocoloney.
It's delectable.

Hollyhead · 18/12/2023 23:52

I love it, it always seems to draw a lot of hate on here, possibly because it makes people feel guilty they prefer chocolate made my slaves and like it too much to give it up.

Chocolonely found 1700 child slaves in its supply chain in 2022.

like I said, they may be working towards their ethical claims, but they aren’t there yet.

TheTripThatWasnt · 19/12/2023 00:03

The dark one with almonds and sea salt is amazing. The milk one isn't that different from other decent chocolate, but the fact it's more expensive makes me eat less of it, so that has to be a good thing!

It's always been chocolonely. It's depressing how subliterate so many people turn out to be.

It's a mondegreen. Nothing to do with literacy levels.

A mondegreen is something misheard, not misread.

That found them because they were looking for them. I bet other suppliers would rather close their eyes to slavery and pretend that it’s not happening

That’s a bit harsh. It’s only a made up name of a chocolate bar. And it can easily be read as chocoloney at first glance.

Togomalone · 19/12/2023 00:25

Who knew it tastes like cheap advent calendar chocolate?

Yep - and misreading something doesn't make one illiterate. 😅

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 19/12/2023 00:34

@Togomalone thats a bit of an insult to advent chocolate🤣

Togomalone · 19/12/2023 00:34

I honestly don’t get it

Jo Fairly started Green and Blacks and Maya Gold was the first chocolate to get the fair trade label in the UK. That was 30 years ago… feels like emperor’s new clothes to me. Plenty of fair trade chocolate out there to choose from without resorting to Tony’s. The packaging is cute though.

Ps. definitely think it’s suspicious how many threads are started discussing Tony’s chocolate. Seems to inspire very extreme love/hate reactions

Porridgeislife · 19/12/2023 00:37

It annoys me that the block is split into random pieces, not nice regular rectangles. I don’t want triangular chocolate unless it’s Toblerone. I don’t care that the irregular shape has some symbolism about inequality.

I prefer Montezuma tbh

I’m feeling like I’m missing something here…chocoLONELY? Like he’s lonely? What seems like a bit of a stretch-like, what? He just sat there and thought I am the only good person in the chocolate world…I’m Chocolonely! That sounds unlikely but whatever. Or am I missing some kind of play on words and it’s not lonely it’s something else? I keep seeing the word colon too. Is that something to do with it?

Babla · 19/12/2023 01:05

Over priced nasty choc

WandaWonder · 19/12/2023 01:20

I love yorkies I hate this though

JaneJeffer · 19/12/2023 01:23

And colonel @Devonshiregal Grin

I have never seen this mythical chocolate.

Appleblum · 19/12/2023 01:27
