Does anyone really look younger than their age?

Online on forums, social media, on dating profiles and even in real life people claim to look younger than their age, they are X age but don't look it. They get ID's in the supermarket buying wine.

I am always highly sceptical because I've know people who say to my face how they look like they are 25 when they are actually 38 because they have no lines or wrinkles when I am looking at them and thought they were actually in their 40's and they have obvious wrinkles and grey hair, people are delusional! Honestly the capacity people have to delude themselves about anything is quite staggering and I have never met someone who claims to look younger and it actually turn out to be true.

When I was younger I thought some older people looked younger so I once thought a woman when she was 49 was closer to 30 but that was because I assumed all people of 49 looked "old" which isn't the case at all and looking back she looked great but she also looked her age which is fine.

Going back to the first case where the women was convinced she looked over 10 years younger, what could I say I just said yeah you look great and its the same anytime anyone makes that claim. People aren't going to dispute it.

That never happens.
Staff wear lanyards.
For safeguarding purposes, it's very clear who the teachers are.

Yes, but funnily enough, they can be hidden by a jacket, a bag, whatever. I imagine it was only for a second or two, but I thought it was funny nonetheless. When I first met her I thought she was about 19, or maybe early 20s as I think I knew she had been to university, and she was already 30! There are some people who do look genuinely really young.

I am not one of them! Although I think I look ok (not in hairdressers' mirrors though).

So she was in uniform?
I've heard this quite a few times, several times on these looking young threads. It's just not true.

In sixth form , the students wear lanyards too.

I know. They are colour coordinated to be different from teaching staff. No matter. A 35 year old woman, even with a lanyard covered and dressing like a teenager would never pass for a teenager.

@chickenandchorizo about 32. Very pretty.

Wish I had seen this at the time as no one will probably see this but for all the naysayers in this thread I am 37 and regularly get ID’d and would say that I semi regularly get mistaken for a teenager.

TBH it’s a pain in the arse. I have 2 children and am a manager at work but often get treated as though I am a child. I have a baby face and freckles and, honestly, nothing I would say that constitutes a wrinkle and as such I am thought of as much younger than I am.

it makes me massively self conscious so if anyone has any genuine tips on how to look older I am all ears!

@Emmaflo 20 fags a day? 😂

Yes. A man came in to the mental health unit to visit a patient with what I thought was a pre-teen girl. I had to ask her age as no -one under 18 can visit the wards. She was 21!

Deathraystare · 14/08/2024 09:38

I often see women who are my age or less but look much older. One woman in a cafe took a 'funny turn'. I had to ask her age for the ambulance crew that were coming. She was one or two years younger than me but looked MUCH older. I think she may have had a lot of health problems (so do I).

It seems to me people like to think of others as younger and less experienced as they think they can give them less respect.

It probably won't change how you feel, or how people treat you,but it says more about them , than it does about you.

@Emmaflo I can totally relate as I am in my 30s and look like a teen. I find if I try and dress older I look like a kid playing dress up
