Does anyone really look younger than their age?

Online on forums, social media, on dating profiles and even in real life people claim to look younger than their age, they are X age but don't look it. They get ID's in the supermarket buying wine.

I am always highly sceptical because I've know people who say to my face how they look like they are 25 when they are actually 38 because they have no lines or wrinkles when I am looking at them and thought they were actually in their 40's and they have obvious wrinkles and grey hair, people are delusional! Honestly the capacity people have to delude themselves about anything is quite staggering and I have never met someone who claims to look younger and it actually turn out to be true.

When I was younger I thought some older people looked younger so I once thought a woman when she was 49 was closer to 30 but that was because I assumed all people of 49 looked "old" which isn't the case at all and looking back she looked great but she also looked her age which is fine.

Going back to the first case where the women was convinced she looked over 10 years younger, what could I say I just said yeah you look great and its the same anytime anyone makes that claim. People aren't going to dispute it.

I must admit to being a bit preoccupied/interested with how people age.

I often look up people’s ages when I’m watching tv.

Mind you also aware that HD tv on a big screen doesn’t do a lot of people any favours!

I do look younger than I am and have been thinking about why I want to hold on to that since reading this thread.

I am annoyed with myself that it’s become more important the older I get, I’m early 60s.

This year I’m going to focus on getting stronger and slimmer, and realise that really I have very little control over my face ageing.

interesting thread!

I was told for years that I looked much younger than my actual age .
I went to a dermatology clinic to get a small but prominent visible capillary lasered and the staff ( unprompted ) said I looked about 20 years old.
I was actually 37 at the time .
Years of stress and menopause have aged me 🤪.
I am still told I look a few years younger than my actual age 🤔 but then again I don’t drink alcohol, have never smoked and don’t sit in the sun .
I use sunscreen daily , eat reasonably 😏 healthily.
I look ancient when I’m tired or poorly though and my neck gives me away 🤣

I’m pretty sure I looked younger up to my late 20s. I think I looked early 20s and people often were surprised when they learned my age.

Now I’m 35 and I’m sure I’ve caught up. I look 35. Nobody is surprised when I say I’m 35. I don’t think having a child helped!

Im 34 almost 35 in a month and almost always mistaken for around 16! I hate it. But I guess at appearance hasnt changed. This said it really limits you in life. I have education, experience etc but when people think you’re young they don’t give you equal opportunities

LindorDoubleChoc · 15/07/2024 19:02

Yes, some people definitely do. If you don't have many lines or much grey hair, then all things being equal, people will guess you at 5 to 8 years younger than you actually are in my experience. 10 years is absolutely pushing it though.

Lol. like I said, people are delusional.

I know 😂!

Catnipcupcakes · 15/07/2024 19:04

I think most people will say that they themselves look younger than their age.

They never really do though.

DelectableMe · 15/07/2024 19:05

I love these threads. The funniest was a woman of 60 claiming people thought she was in her 20s! 😂

Who mistakes you for a 16 year old?

Clueless2024 · 15/07/2024 19:12

I have no idea.

How old do y'all reckon I am?

Does anyone really look younger than their age?

Who mistakes you for a child? Is it when you push for them to guess your age?

Definitely. I've met so many deluded people like this. I assume it's because most of us don't feel much different inside than we did 20 years ago

Yes, I also think that when you're young, older people look old to you. Then you age and don't think you look the same.

Nearly! 46. I always thought I look my age. Not older or younger per se

circular2478 · 15/07/2024 19:31

@Clueless2024 an attractive 60 year old

Clueless2024 · 15/07/2024 19:32

Not quite

DelectableMe · 15/07/2024 19:32

There's not really such a thing as "looking your age" because it's so subjective.

Not quite. Thanks (maybe) for saying I'm attractive....but I'm not 60 anytime soon

It was a joke because there's a poster of 35 claiming to look 16!

I'm 46. Always thought I looked in my age bracket, although y'all seem to think I look older. May I ask why?

I'm curious, but unfortunately not vain enough to do anything to 'anti age' myself

Titsywoo · 15/07/2024 19:38

Personally I don't think you can really tell the difference between a 42 year old and a 47 year old - I certainly can't. I am mid 40s and everyone I know looks about the age they are. Some look "better" than others as they dress nicer/dye their hair etc (I'm not one of these as I don't care enough) but even those with botox look about the same age to me. People with baby faces often look younger for longer I suppose but I don't know anyone like that.
