Does anyone really look younger than their age?

Online on forums, social media, on dating profiles and even in real life people claim to look younger than their age, they are X age but don't look it. They get ID's in the supermarket buying wine.

I am always highly sceptical because I've know people who say to my face how they look like they are 25 when they are actually 38 because they have no lines or wrinkles when I am looking at them and thought they were actually in their 40's and they have obvious wrinkles and grey hair, people are delusional! Honestly the capacity people have to delude themselves about anything is quite staggering and I have never met someone who claims to look younger and it actually turn out to be true.

When I was younger I thought some older people looked younger so I once thought a woman when she was 49 was closer to 30 but that was because I assumed all people of 49 looked "old" which isn't the case at all and looking back she looked great but she also looked her age which is fine.

Going back to the first case where the women was convinced she looked over 10 years younger, what could I say I just said yeah you look great and its the same anytime anyone makes that claim. People aren't going to dispute it.

It was a joke because there's a poster of 35 claiming to look 16!

Ah, I see. Got ya

DelectableMe · 15/07/2024 19:40

Botox doesn't make people look younger, it just irons the face a bit and gives them that strange stiffness.

btw: I think you look very pretty.

I have no idea.

How old do y'all reckon I am?

I can't believe people saying you look 50! I'd say early to mid 30s.

DelectableMe · 15/07/2024 19:44

See how subjective it is.

I don't know if it makes a shred of difference. The above pic, I'm wearing a full face of make-up. Below, make-up free. I still think I look within my age range

@DelectableMe good skin. Clothes/hair are a bit aging

Nearly! 46. I always thought I look my age. Not older or younger per se

I said 50 because I have a daughter of similar age. You have lovely skin, btw

Thanks. I'm not delusional. I think I look my age, give or take. I certainly don't try to look older or younger...

Are you my mum lol? She always tells me I dress like a grandmother & my hair is not "fashionable" (why? How can I wear my hair so it looks more hip?????)

Im 34 almost 35 in a month and almost always mistaken for around 16! I hate it. But I guess at appearance hasnt changed. This said it really limits you in life. I have education, experience etc but when people think you’re young they don’t give you equal opportunities

If you ask a 16 year old to guess you're age, or anyone much younger than you. You won't find any who think you're under 30

123letsblaze · 15/07/2024 20:09

@Clueless2024 I think longer hair styles are more youthful and lot more popular now. Clothing wise I don't know but obviously trying not to dress like a 20 year old. Following fashion blogs/websites or instagram and seeing what's more current and suits you.

Curtainscurtains · 15/07/2024 20:10

I have ehlors danlos. No one would ever guess my true age. I have looked younger my whole adult life and it's only getting worse. It's not actually a huge advantage - it freaks people out.

Clueless2024 · 15/07/2024 20:10

This thread is so enlightening! I'm a bit embarrassed I look older than I am, but I confess; I'm no beauty queen. I've never been heavily into fashion or hair & make-up. I am 40 kg's (or 80lbs) heavier than I should be, so I'm a fatty. I think that also contributes to me looking older than I am

Unfortunately, I've got really thin hair, so I feel like long hair just dosent work for me.... but maybe I am wrong!

Short hair can be very flattering, ask a hairdresser for advice.

I used to rock a pixie cut 25 years ago. I LOVE short hair. Given I'm now quite a fatty, I'm afraid I'll look like a big, giant, butch lesbian if I don short hair, as my face is super fat & I've 3 chins.

BTW, I love lesbians & have no issues with them, so hopefully my wording does not cause unnecessary offence

DelectableMe · 15/07/2024 20:20

Why would you look butch?
I think you know that gay women vary significantly in appearance and style! They are individuals!

I just don't have the face shape for short hair

honeybeetheoneandonly · 15/07/2024 21:15

Admittedly not many people but some look ridiculously younger than they are. Have a Google how old Thomas Brodie-Sangster was in love actually (esp compared to Keira knightly) or Nanny Mcphee. Even now, I think he looks early 20s at most.

DelectableMe · 15/07/2024 21:25

He was 12 and she was 17. I would say that they look their ages.
Plenty of yr7 boys look like him, and plenty of yr12 girls look like her.

Catnipcupcakes · 15/07/2024 23:18

Having said everyone looks their age I’ve just watvhed a vogue fashion video abou the Met Gala and I don’t think Nicola Coughlan looks 37.

hibeat · 15/07/2024 23:34

Omg your skin is so lovely! It's 100%the hair cut that gives away your age.🙂

I think you look really young without makeup ( I’d have guessed early 30s) but in the makeup photo I’d have guessed early 50s. It’s the styling - the eyeshadow and the top …

DryIce · 16/07/2024 17:23

@Clueless2024 not sure what other posters are looking at but I think you look much younger than 46, especially in no make up photo! Such lovely skin

Agree with styling though, the eye shadow and side parting is not so much aging in itself, but it dates you. As do the eyebrows which make me think someone grew up in the 90s plucking era!
