Does anyone really look younger than their age?

Online on forums, social media, on dating profiles and even in real life people claim to look younger than their age, they are X age but don't look it. They get ID's in the supermarket buying wine.

I am always highly sceptical because I've know people who say to my face how they look like they are 25 when they are actually 38 because they have no lines or wrinkles when I am looking at them and thought they were actually in their 40's and they have obvious wrinkles and grey hair, people are delusional! Honestly the capacity people have to delude themselves about anything is quite staggering and I have never met someone who claims to look younger and it actually turn out to be true.

When I was younger I thought some older people looked younger so I once thought a woman when she was 49 was closer to 30 but that was because I assumed all people of 49 looked "old" which isn't the case at all and looking back she looked great but she also looked her age which is fine.

Going back to the first case where the women was convinced she looked over 10 years younger, what could I say I just said yeah you look great and its the same anytime anyone makes that claim. People aren't going to dispute it.

@TemporaryAnon I can see it. You've got something very youthful about your face there, could have been a picture of a teen mum lol. You probably looked even younger when you hadn't just given birth.

@TemporaryAnon you're 26 in that picture. That's quite believable. You're very attractive but you wouldn't be mistaken for a teenager - and there's nothing wrong with that!
You also look good considering you've just given birth! I looked wrecked...

Thanks for the compliment - it's probably the morphine making me look chilled because I certainly was totally wrecked. A long labour followed by an emergency section because he got stuck and was in distress.

I really thought I looked quite a bit younger than 26 in that pic though. I guess this proves the OP's point 😀

Fizbosshoes · 17/07/2024 18:41

I saw an article in metro this week about a 35 year old man who really did look like a teenager!

You'd already given them your actual age as background information. When people have to guess there is a lot more variety in answer.

Also , if you lied and said yo were 18 in the photo you'd get people guessing 20s . To be honest, people on here like to dispute what people say.

The trouble is that it's very subjective. Don't get hung up on it, it really doesn't matter! My point is that what age you "look" is completely irrelevant. Some people will always guess wrongly, either way. It doesn't mean they're both right or wrong. I think because I work with teenagers I know what they look like and can easily tell.

I absolutely did, for the longest time. Not now that I'm early 50s, but back when I was around 30 I was still getting mistaken for a teenager. My opinion is that I just had kind of childish facial features and so only really started looking my age when aging of my skin became more obvious.

Lots of occasions when I was with my toddler or pre-school aged ds1 and was asked about my "little brother" in the sort of voice that older people use when they're addressing kids, or, very regularly, when people came cold-calling to the door, "Can you go get your mum/dad?"

I know adding photos to any thread like this is asking for people to add 10 years to your appearance, just to put you in your place for daring to think you might look a bit younger than you are, but seriously, does anyone here really not think I look like a kid in this photo of me holding ds1 on the day he was born (when I was close to turning 27)?

I’m not shocked that you’re 27 in the picture but I still think you could easily be 18/19 in it as well. Definitely not 30s.

Yozzer87 · 17/07/2024 19:30

I had my first baby at 20 and really did look like a teenager. A few of the nurses came and asked me my age. I was always young looking anyway but when I was pregnant my face really filled out like a chipmunk.

DelectableMe · 17/07/2024 19:35

To be fair, 20 is very young.
This "teenager" business is misleading. There's a difference between 13 and 19.
If someone said you look like a teenager when you're 20, they're probably only a year out.

honeybeetheoneandonly · 17/07/2024 20:02

@TemporaryAnon for some reason your hands and baby (obviously) give it away but if i cover that I think you are very young looking for 27. (Should have just posted the upper part and asked how old people thought you were).

Yeah, my face was all I meant. I think my face shape/features were quite juvenile for my age. Lots of different people used to express surprise when they found out how old I was back then, and for a considerable number of years after.

Now that baby is in his mid twenties and my wrinkles and sagginess show my real age. Appearance wise I feel like I aged >10 years between 45 and 50, instead of just 5, so it definitely catches up!

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 17/07/2024 21:26

When I was 25/26 I'd regularly get half fare on the bus. And that's ne the bus driver- is just state my destination. 15 and under for a child half fare. But I think it was because I'm short and wore no make up.

Yes I think I aged loads once I turned 50. I thought I was getting away with it!

paddypipedown · 17/07/2024 21:50

I think this thread just proves that many people think they look young for their age, but actually don't.

I've met loads of people over the years who bleat on about how young they look and I've thought they look about 10 years older than their actual age.

I guess we all want to think we still look youthful, and that wishful thinking creates a certain amount of delusion. Also, our perception of ages is skewed to how "older" people looked to us years ago. I'm 44 and if I think of how my Mum or Gran looked at 44, I am much more youthful with my hair, clothes and figure. However, compared to other 44 year olds around today, I probably have much the same look as them.

Based on others presuming my age as younger. I hated it.

I work in a Dr clinc, so can see a patients age. Everyone looks their age, with the exception of some who look older than they are. I can guess and be pretty accurate every time.

There is the occasional mid to late nineties lady who is quite sprightly and I'm surprised by how mobile they are but that's it. No thirty-something looks 16 🤣

That’s what I would have thought but. Imma post a pic in here and you guys can judge yourself @TealSapphire

No one in their mid thirties looks 16 years old. You are completely deluded. Maybe you could post a picture?

I did do until becoming ill, everyone I met thought I was in my early thirties when I was late forties.

You're very attractive, which helps and of course you look good. I think you could certainly pass for mid to late twenties. 16 years old though, don't see myself

You're very pretty - but you look around 45 in the soft focus one on the left!

I don't think you look 45 but you definitely don't look like a teen. Thirties, and due to your sensible styling maybe mid thirties and not trying to look anything else (rightly so, you look great).

Shushquite · 18/07/2024 11:59

I look younger than I am.
I used to look older than my age, then suddenly went to a&e from dka.Weight returned to my face and went to so many different places. On average people tell me I look around 10yr younger. It is not a flex, at least not yet. Because I'm only in my thirties.

We are all not the same. Some people are taller and others shorter. Some people will look older than their age and other people will look younger.

SignoraItaliana · 18/07/2024 12:30

@doda11398 do you seriously think you look like a teenager? You don't.
I'm not sure how old you actually are, but you look lovely. Just not incredibly youthful.

On another note, has anyone been to Amsterdam and NOT had that bridge with bikes and barges photo taken? Grin

Waitingfordoggo · 18/07/2024 12:36

Sorry if I’m being dense @Shushquite, but what does this mean?

Before I went to Amsterdam I thought everyone had the photo taken on the exact same bridge 😅 then went there and realised there are bridges like that everywhere (and of course got my own photo 😆)
