What’s your favourite ready meal?

Partly because I’m bored but also because we’ve been through most of the Charlie Bigham ones (or the ones you get in most big supermarkets). I do like the CB chilli con carne & moussaka. What are your favourites (doesn’t have to be CB)?

Waitrose Indian ready meals are lovely, particularly like the Keralan Chicken Fry.

Ladyof2022 · 27/11/2023 01:18

I would love to enjoy a ready meal now and again. Does anyone know of one which is grain free? I am not talking about gluten-free. I I'm intolerant to all grains; in short this means nothing made of wheat or rice.

DH takes ready meals to work most days and the one he's like the most is the M&S roast beef dinner. Apparently all his workmates were jealous as it smelled and looked amazing. He likes their bangers and mash too.

Goodfellas do a macaroni with pepperoni through it that I really like too.

Catsmere · 27/11/2023 01:22

Aldi's chicken mushroom risotto or their lasagne.

  • the one he likes.

I'm tired and no edit button on the app. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Lidl' s Moussaka

Aldi' s jerk chicken bowl

Most of the ready meals we buy tend to be M&S. Can recommend their best lasagne, macaroni, steak pie. Also their gastro pub dine in - really enjoy their chicken kyivs. We had their Indian meal deal on Friday which was really nice - chicken jalfrezi, butter chicken, spicy potatoes and butter chicken samosas. Also bought a bag of their mango chutney poppadoms and a jar of their mango chutney which I mix through some plain yoghurt for a nice dip.
Crosta and Mollica pizzas are usually really nice, I've had some of their deserts like tiramisu and pistachio tartufi, also very nice. Have a lasagne of theirs in the freezer but haven't tried it yet but have high hopes.
For a special carby treat Pasta Evangelists are very good, their pasta carbonara is yummy, in fact everything we've had is delicious including their puddings and anti pasta. Most of their pasta mains freeze well too.

BeyondMyWits · 27/11/2023 09:36

Would not have too many ready meals in a row/week.

Most (well, ALL of the ones I like!) are high in salt, so not meant for every day really.

Clawdy · 27/11/2023 10:01

Almost any Charlie Bigham ready meal! Love them.

Another vote for the Iceland meals in bags - my favourite is the cheesy pasta with chicken & broccoli, but all the ones I've had have been tasty https://www.iceland.co.uk/frozen/frozen-ready-meals/meal-in-a-bag. I also like their luxury chicken makhani masala curry, it's delicious.

Fish and chips.

I just remembered seeing all your suggestions that there was a post at the height of Covid from someone whose whole family were recovering from Covid & they had a best ever steak pie from M&S in the freezer. The OP had looked at the nutritional info & worked themselves up in to a real state about how bad it all was & how they couldn’t possibly eat it as it would make them all ill again. Cue a lot posters telling her that one steak pie wasn’t going to kill them! So yes they’re not an every day thing but it’s great to have some on hand for when you need them.

Loving all your suggestions, thanks ☺️

I've just had a carbonara from Aldi ... very disappointing, watery and gloopy. And it was their 'special' range.

MorvernBlack · 27/11/2023 12:28

Tesco Wicked enchiladas are lovely, full of veg, actually vegan with no fake meat. I do confess to adding a sprinkling of cheese (obviously I'm not vegan!). They are oven cook, which makes them more appetising. I've tried to recreate them at home, but never succeeded.

lenalove · 27/11/2023 13:17

The "Picard" frozen pizzas from Ocado are really tasty!

Agree with Crosta and Mollica, plus their sourdough pizza bases are also excellent and only a couple of quid.

I really love Co-Op's Korma. I'm not a fan of hot curry.

Prawn bucatini from M&S… always my go to when I can’t be bothered to cook 😄

I have a confession, it’s my all time favourite. I was working on Christmas Day, (probably will be this year, so it was and most likely will be the M&S King Prawn Bucatini again.
I just love it. I may buy two and feel extravagant, work myself into a carb coma and crash out in front of the tv.

@Icepinkeskimo sounds like my kind of Christmas 😂.

M&S smoked haddock florentine. I add a poached egg on top. My DP doesn’t eat fish so this is my thing for when he’s away with work.

We tend to have a ready meal at the weekend if we’re not going out - M&S best ever lasagne or macaroni cheese are faves, and Sainsbury’s have started doing a really good meal deal for £12.

Beck2017 · 27/11/2023 21:08

I like to raid the sides section of tesco, cauliflower cheese, dauphinouis potatoes, brocolli cheese, and greens with bacon, 25 minutes in oven, 4 minutes in microwave...served with ribeana and lemonade. Absolute carb and cheese fest

MuddledMadge · 28/11/2023 11:14

I also really enjoy the oad in the hole from the cheap Tesco range.

@RocketIceLollie very rarely see E numbers in fresh or frozen ready meals - they tend to be in the make up packets eg flavour noodles etc and also perhaps in bread
