What’s your favourite ready meal?

Partly because I’m bored but also because we’ve been through most of the Charlie Bigham ones (or the ones you get in most big supermarkets). I do like the CB chilli con carne & moussaka. What are your favourites (doesn’t have to be CB)?

I’ve never thought to try the curries in Asda & I know it’s usually good value. The ready made risotto from Iceland is a really good shout, shame it’s been out of stock. I think Aldi do a frozen paella though I’ve never tried it.

M&S do a really good macaroni cheese in their special range. Just don’t look at the calories in it! The Aldi special range one is also pretty decent.

RigorMortisRadio · 26/11/2023 18:19

Another good quick tea when you aren't feeling great is the fresh pasta/sauce meal deal some shops do, we often get the spinach and ricotta tortellini and tomato and mascarpone sauce from Tesco if we are short on time and it's ready in less than 10 minutes.

whocaresmore · 26/11/2023 18:20

We like Cook vegetable lasagne and lamb dupiaza.

Also Waitrose mussels in white wine sauce with some french fries in the oven for an easy treat

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 26/11/2023 18:35

I like Sainsbury's extra special vegetarian cottage pie and vegetarian moussaka . I like them as they are veggie rather than vegan and have real dairy in .

I also like most supermarket's special range fish pies . I find the Charlie Bingham's too salty though .

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/11/2023 18:38

Aldi lasagne is better than Charlie Bighams and much cheaper. Aldi butter chicken too.

TucSandwich · 26/11/2023 18:38

CB chicken tikka masala, by a country mile.

Rosecoffeecup · 26/11/2023 18:40

M&S chicken arrabiata is nice, in fact most of their pasta meals are decent. I also love the fajitas but they don't seem to do them all the time

Dartmoorcheffy · 26/11/2023 18:46

Lidls spaghetti carbonara is really lovely

Charliebighamfan · 26/11/2023 18:50

So many good ideas here & lots I hadn’t thought of. Also prefer veggie rather than vegan- the more cheese the better! The M&S pasta ready meals do sound like they’re generally good. Also I like the idea of the fresh pasta & sauce- I used to do that when I was first living in London& it always hits the spot!

Aldi Mac & cheese from their special range, topped with croutons or something - served 2 - very decent, half the price of CB and to be honest, not worth making your own.
Its very handy if you are running late, or having a busy day.

Lovethatforyouhun · 26/11/2023 18:51

Waitrose Prawn and chilli pizza and their entire indian range

Isseywith3witchycats · 26/11/2023 18:52

Icelands Takaway spinach and ricotta cannelloni is lush i heat it in the oven rather than in the microwave

Lilibert456 · 26/11/2023 18:53

Waitrose curries are good. Hope your chemo goes well for you and you soon feel much better.

princefamilypaper · 26/11/2023 18:53

Wasabi or itsu I can't remember but they have great noodle ones

Eyelashesoffire · 26/11/2023 18:54

Hope your chemo goes well

Charliebighamfan · 26/11/2023 18:55

Thanks all, this is great. For me I liken the feeling after chemo to being a bit like morning sickness, that kind of low level bleurgh feeling. I don’t have much energy & crave carby type foods. It’s good to have some quick meal ideas as a back up.

Darklane · 26/11/2023 18:55

Asda lasagne, the one you can cook in a microwave, not tried the oven only one in the foil dish. Aldi paella.
Asda stir fry deal, veg, noodles & sauce just add a pack of the ready cooked topside beef.

GreatGateauxsby · 26/11/2023 18:59

Ocado do some really good ones

this is perfect Carby dinner. We had it once a week when I was first trimester

this is a firm fave in our house - so so flavourful and fresh! But also cheesy and comforting…

It’s not quite microwave as you heat in a pan but it’s close enough for me

Waitress "Number 1 cauliflower and broccoli three cheese gratin". Really tasty, and of course just to add to my 5 a day I add a load of chunky chips to dunk in the sauce 😊

Hope your treatment goes well.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/11/2023 19:10

Does pizza count?

idontlikealdi · 26/11/2023 19:13

M and s mac and cheese

upinaballoon · 26/11/2023 19:21

Spinach and ricotta cannelloni, because it would be a fiddle to make. Mmmm, haven't tried Iceland's.........yet.

DuploTrain · 26/11/2023 19:23

All the M&S pastas are very good. Even the four cheese ravioli is lovely - simple but tasty and comforting.

StarlightLady · 26/11/2023 19:24

Bollinger Champaign. 😀
