What’s your favourite ready meal?

Partly because I’m bored but also because we’ve been through most of the Charlie Bigham ones (or the ones you get in most big supermarkets). I do like the CB chilli con carne & moussaka. What are your favourites (doesn’t have to be CB)?

Liver and bacon with mash from the Coop. I add some petit pois.

hartof · 26/11/2023 19:26

Either Tesco finest lasagne (I prefer my own but this is a cheaper smaller option for 2 of us) or the M&S best ever steak pie

kitsuneghost · 26/11/2023 19:28

I love a fish pie. Problem is all the posher ranges have prawns. Love a prawn. Love a fish pie. But the DO NOT belong together.

Clevs · 26/11/2023 19:28

In the last few weeks we've had meal deals from Tesco and M&S (main, side & dessert). Both times we've had lasagne and chunky chips as the main and side.

The M&S lasagne was better than Tesco's but the chips were better from Tesco's. As the lasagne is the star of the show I'd choose theirs over Tesco's if I had a choice.

hartof · 26/11/2023 19:28

Ooh and the new range of curries in Asda are lovely! Bom Bahia the range is, they also have a Thai and Chinese range that looks really good too

LindorDoubleChoc · 26/11/2023 19:29

Waitrose mozarella stuffed pork meatballs!

Waitrose or Sainsburys whole breast chicken kiev, not the "chopped and shaped" monstrosities.

Co-Op lentil dahl soup, so delicious.

SnowLeopardPyjamas · 26/11/2023 19:31

The cook meals are the best. Love the chicken lasagne, all the curries but specially the kofta meatball one, the moussaka and the French onion tart. Basically every time we have one then it's like having home cooked. A freezer meal that's not beige is a godsend for when time isn't on your side. Do need to add some veg but they sell that too if absolute ease is needed.

Good luck with your chemo OP and enjoy the ready meals.

Does pizza count?

Of course! Thanks for all the replies & kind wishes everyone. I’ve lost track of the answers now but I’m compiling a list. I must say I agree about prawns in a fish pie- not together! Lots of nice stodgy & comforting suggestions here.

I’m always interested in what other people buy/ cook food wise as it’s so easy to get in to a rut & there’s lots of suggestions here I wouldn’t even have thought of. I never think to look at the frozen meals that can be warmed up quickly like the gnocchi or risotto.

Also Waitrose mussels in white wine sauce with some french fries in the oven for an easy treat

And crusty bread for dipping

Waitrose chili con carne, or their tuna pasta bake.

This is so helpful honestly because I’m going back on chemo soon & I find it hard to have energy to cook so it’s helpful to have some ideas!

Wishing you the very best with your chemo xx

Wintersgirl · 26/11/2023 19:48

Sainsbury's Taste the Difference spaghetti bolognaise, I have it with their Rosemary and Garlic flatbread and a glass of red...yum!

MuddledMadge · 26/11/2023 19:48

Tesco Finest Chicken Satay with Jasmine Rice

LollipopViolet · 26/11/2023 19:50

Zizzi carbonara that I picked up in Tesco once - SO cheesy and has pancetta in I believe.

So, so good but I want to go to sleep after!

Also love a spinach and ricotta cannelloni - have tried a couple and enjoyed all of them.

Cookerhood · 26/11/2023 19:56

I tend not to like ready meal curries as I find the meat a weird texture (is it "chopped & shaped?) but my ready meal of choice would be Waitrose vegetable biriyani. I always buy it if I see it reduced. Other than that CB macaroni cheese or fish pie are good, along with plenty of the Cook range (££ though).

DilemmaDelilah · 26/11/2023 20:06

The only thing I fancy on chemo is cottage pie. Not very exciting but I know I can eat it. Or chicken noodle soup without the noodles - gallons of the stuff!

witchypaws · 26/11/2023 20:12

Iceland have a lot of sort of halfway stuff
Frozen veg rice, frozen mash, that type of stuff for a quick meal that isn't fully prepped. Might be worth having a look at their website
My really lazy meal is one of their hollands cheese pies, frozen mash, frozen veg, instant gravy Grin

CoodleMoodle · 26/11/2023 20:26

I'm the only person in my house who will eat chilli con carne, so every now and then I'll get a ready meal version. I like to try all the different ones! Sainsbury's used to do (in about 2010!) the best one in the chilled section but they've changed it now. So many have wild rice or something odd with it, when all I want is bog standard white rice! The Sainsbury's frozen and Iceland ones are the ones I usually get. I'm going to see if Lidl have one tomorrow, fancy it now!

CoodleMoodle · 26/11/2023 20:27

We also like the meals in a bag from Iceland. The best ones are the chicken & bacon pasta, the paella and the chicken risotto. I quite enjoy the stir fry ones sometimes but they can get a bit soggy.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/11/2023 20:28

Marmite toast with a poached egg.

QueenOfMOHO · 26/11/2023 20:45

A simple egg fried in pesto instead of oil.
Served on toast.

ThreeRingCircus · 26/11/2023 20:48

My favourite ready meal is the vegetarian lasagne from COOK closely followed by any of their curries.

Other very easy dinners I love (but not really ready meals) are....

Sainsbury's taste the difference prawn and chilli ravioli. I fry garlic in butter and toss the cooked ravioli in that for the sauce.

Tesco Finest ham, mushroom and mascapone pizza from the fresh pizza section.

Nachos. Tortilla chips, melted cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, chopped spring onions and salsa.

CPandme · 26/11/2023 20:50

Soup - current favourite is Sainsbury’s taste the difference jerk chicken.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/11/2023 20:54

If it's just dh and me, a packet of smoked salmon, brown bread and butter, squeeze of lemon and black pepper, with a ready made salad with a slice avocado on top.

SiennaMillar · 26/11/2023 20:55

M and S lamb curry
