Which shops let dogs in?

Planning a trip into town this afternoon to see the Christmas market. Might do a bit of shopping. Taking the pooch - which shops let dogs in? I know JL do.

(Don't worry, he won't pee or poo in here, he's very well trained).

@ThePineapplePrincess whatever.. They get brushed daily..baths reg.. every time we head to the beach (which is often...as um...live in the dominican republic) Our dogs are clean ..groomed and trained to behave and not approach anyone. I agreed and also am doing some self reflection due to another poster. my dogs are clean and well cared for.. BUT I think i need to reflect on the fact that others do not know that. even though my idiots just lay there unless I give them the command that they can up DO NOT NOT think that all dog owners and dogs are the same. by the way.. the restaurant they go to with me..in the photo. I aways take them to that area so they are not inside the restaurant. Stop painting all dog owners with the same brush. some are great and train their dogs..some are shits and don't care

Hiddendoor · 26/11/2023 15:13

Too many.

I have a dog and plan to use her as an excuse not to go shopping.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 26/11/2023 15:15

I’m allergic to dogs and really fed up of them in shops and cafes. Less and less places are dog free. It’s gross to bring dogs everywhere.

Far too many!

momager1 · 26/11/2023 15:17

@Grumio yes. you are totally right. I NEVER take my dogs in a shop.. just the beach bar close to our house. and only on the beach side not inside with the tables. HOWEVER if you were there and your child was having an issue with my dogs being there.. I would LEAVE. dogs do not be more important than humans...esp children

ThePineapplePrincess · 26/11/2023 15:21

@momager1 No, not all dog owners are the same. But regardless of how often your mutts get groomed, they’re still dirty, they still smell and they still shed hair.

Put it this way: if you’re in a crowded area, I’m not watching on the ground while pushing my pram for any dog feet.

Oh, and they’re not your babies. They’re not your family. They’re animals. People like you treating them as though they’re anything more than that is exactly why dog attacks are on the rise.

amylou8 · 26/11/2023 15:26

Why does a dog need to be in a shop? I can sort of get a rural cafe where you've stopped on a walk...but John Lewis? If you're going shopping leave the dog at home.

momager1 · 26/11/2023 15:28

@ThePineapplePrincess 1) they are standard poodles they do not have fur,, they have HAIR just like you and me. 2) Call them what you want but we love them..not more than our actual kids and grandmonsters, but they bring us great joy. My dogs will NEVER attack as I am a responsible dog owner.. look at the picture..they are at my feet AND i still did not take of leashes. My idiots are NEVER off leash except the beach we go to every sunday morning..way off the beaten path and they run like the idiots they are but no other people or animals. sick of people bashing good dog or cat owners over those that do not live up to the responsibily

ThePineapplePrincess · 26/11/2023 15:32

@momager1 They shed like all dogs.

You cannot say your dog will never attack. Dogs are unpredictable, and it’s usually the people who say that whose dogs do attack, because the owners are blinded by “love”.

momager1 · 26/11/2023 15:35

@ThePineapplePrincess you are right. there are too many owners that allow to let their dogs do whatever they want. I am NOT that owner. My dogs are AlWAYS on leash. so please stop attacking me. I am a responsible owner . you are being really rude to those of us that really try to make sure our dogs never bother anyone else. we love our furry companions.

momager1 · 26/11/2023 15:36

and.. ps..they do not shed.. look it up. they have hair not fur ...long time standard owner and this is my third and forth over 20 years

ThePineapplePrincess · 26/11/2023 15:41

@momager1 If you were trying really hard to make sure your animals weren’t bothering others then you wouldn’t take them to shops/cafes/restaurants/crowded places etc.

momager1 · 26/11/2023 15:43

I take them to ONE beach bar/ restaurant. I also do agree with you on so much. this is a beach bar in the carribean with beach dogs and cats everywhere. can we agree to disagree on my taking them there (never in the food area) I agree with you on everything else

momager1 · 26/11/2023 15:44

I NEVER take them in a store.. gross. shedding dogs or non shedding like mine.. nope I do not want a veg that a dog has sniffed lol

Alargeoneplease89 · 26/11/2023 15:49

Ffs, John lewis is the top 10 place that benefits your pet. Take your dog to a park, beach or something.

Bolloxforsure · 26/11/2023 15:50

The anti dog threads and amateur behaviourists on here make me want to stop trying to lessen the impact my dog has on anyone. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Seriously it's not normal, lockdown has a lot to answer for.

momager1 · 26/11/2023 15:53

@Bolloxforsure I get where you are coming from.. but honestly we need to keep taking care and insuring our mutts are behaving well. I love my dogs to the moon and back, but not everyone does and we should not expect them to.. so a little understanding on both sides goes a long way

Disorganisedmess2023 · 26/11/2023 15:54

ThePineapplePrincess · 26/11/2023 14:34

Ugh. This is vile. I have accidentally run over a few dogs with my pram at crowded Christmas markets.

I’m not sorry. I won’t apologise. They shouldn’t be there. They’re a nuisance and in the way.

Seriously, you wouldn't apologise? That's awful. I find kids running around shopping areas a nuisance but I'd still apologise if I bumped into one.

Gingerbee · 26/11/2023 15:55

I was in John Lewis a few weeks ago when a dog urinated on the floor. I said to the lady " Excuse me. Your dog has ha an accident on the floor"
She told me to fogf and gave me the finger.
I was shocked. I looked for a staff member in the mean time a lady went through the wet with a toddler and a pram.
I really don't think dogs should be in department stores.

explainthistomeplease · 26/11/2023 16:00

@ThePineapplePrincess
Wow. Special kind of rude, whatever you think of dogs. Presumably there was no ban on them being at the market?

momager1 · 26/11/2023 16:01

@ThePineapplePrincess seriously??? you are ok with running over an innocent animal. FML .. It is not the dogs fault that the owners took them to a market!! Aim your anger at the owner not the animal. We as owners have choices to make.. the dog...well it just goes along for the ride. Now I am pissed off so bowing out of this thread

lightinthebox · 26/11/2023 16:14

I work in a JL and I love seeing people’s dogs and getting to pet them (with permission). Not one has been badly behaved or urinated on anything.

Notmetoo · 26/11/2023 16:18

WhatInFreshHell · 26/11/2023 13:47

Why do you need to take your dog shopping?! Absolutely bizarre! Christmas markets are busy places, what if the dog gets trodden on? I really don't want smelly dog hair all over clothes I buy in shops, just because you can leave your dog at home? Honestly, so strange. No wonder dogs have separation anxiety these days, the owners create it!

This. Unless it's a support dog why subject the dog and other shoppers through that.
I grew up with dogs my parents never took them shopping with them.

You mean you haven't seen them behaving badly or urinating on anything.
