Which shops let dogs in?

Planning a trip into town this afternoon to see the Christmas market. Might do a bit of shopping. Taking the pooch - which shops let dogs in? I know JL do.

(Don't worry, he won't pee or poo in here, he's very well trained).

I work in a JL and I love seeing people’s dogs and getting to pet them (with permission). Not one has been badly behaved or urinated on anything.

Maybe not in your store.
I witnessed it mine in the South East

explainthistomeplease · 26/11/2023 16:27

@Grumpystripes that's what she said!

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 26/11/2023 16:27

@momager1 Poodles do not set my allergies. The UK has gone bonkers with regard to dogs.

You mean you haven't seen them behaving badly or urinating on anything.

Regardless, JL clearly sees allowing dogs as good for its business or it wouldn’t do it.

The ‘ hound pound ‘ as in ££££

gotomomo · 26/11/2023 16:47

@Grumio

Plenty of places don't allow dogs, choose them instead. Costa for instance. Many shops don't allow dogs either, I rarely see them in malls

gotomomo · 26/11/2023 16:53

My ddog isn't keen on crowds so wouldn't dream of taking him shopping normally though he's been in country type stores, garden centres, seaside shops out of necessity. He does rather enjoy the pub though - unlike some he's fully trained to assistance dog standard, (autism)

Livelovebehappy · 26/11/2023 16:56

Op, this is a very naughty post…….😏

pacora · 26/11/2023 17:22

I agree with someone upthread. Please leave your dogs at home.

Grumio · 26/11/2023 17:53

But that's the point. Why should I compromise when dog owner aren't prepared to.

I simply don't get it. My pet rat is intelligent, quiet and could be very easily controlled in her harness. Yet if I brought her to a shop / cafe / restaurant there would be uproar. Why should dogs be acceptable?

MumofSpud · 26/11/2023 17:56

My local Boots does and I am a bit Confused at this aswell as the department store which you can walk through to access Boots
My dog is very v waggy and he would be one wag away from sending things on low shelves flying!

faffadoodledo · 26/11/2023 18:00

@MumofSpud mine also has a very active and swishy tail. As a result I tend to avoid most shops. My local fishmongers however welcomes dogs and gives treats to good sitting girls and boys. So I often swing by for a purchase when I'm walking the floofball. There'll be MNers who are horrified but it clearly works from a business perspective for the small independent fishmonger in my village. And the place is spotless. Honestly, customers are as likely to drag muck and mud in on their shoes and pram wheels as my dog.
If he wasn't welcome obviously we wouldn't go in.

Why though?

We had a lovely afternoon out. Despite some woman in JL complaining loudly about my dog being there (he hadn't gone near her, or had any impact on her whatsoever).

I went into our local town to start Christmas shopping today, it was so chaotic already I gave up early and came home. If I was a dog, I think I’d rather stay home with the central heating on and a few snacks for a couple of hours rather than face crowds of cross humans when I’m at foot level, prone to being bumped, pushed and trodden on .

MermaidEyes · 26/11/2023 18:39

I can't wait until shops start allowing horses in and I can finally ride my horse to town. Will save me a fortune in parking fees.

Got to be "inclusive" don't they?

Here's the issue. People thinking their dogs are "girls or boys". Or people saying their dogs are fur babies (yeuchhhhhh).

They are dogs. You are shoving your dogs down other peoples throats. Enough!

exactly. rats and gerbils will be welcome in John Lewis soon I imagine.

faffadoodledo · 26/11/2023 18:50

No I'm not, @pacora. The owner of the property is obviously encouraging dog owners as customers. It's his decision.
Ok dogs and bitches. Rather than boys and girls. I fixed it. Hope that's more appealing linguistically.

Lovethatforyouhun · 26/11/2023 18:53

Yay stinking drool and hair all over everything. People are so pathetic and entitled they can’t go anywhere without a dog these days.

ThePineapplePrincess · 26/11/2023 14:34

Ugh. This is vile. I have accidentally run over a few dogs with my pram at crowded Christmas markets.

I’m not sorry. I won’t apologise. They shouldn’t be there. They’re a nuisance and in the way.

Just because you don't believe they should be there doesn't mean you have the right to injure someone else's dog, totally self-centred

DonPeggyJoan · 26/11/2023 18:57

I'm a dog owner and I wouldn't dream of taking my dog shopping. He's well behaved but it's not an environment for dogs. I respect that not everyone is a dog lover and I don't think that shops are appropriate places to take dogs. Why on earth would you want to take your dog shopping?

greenacrylicpaint · 26/11/2023 19:00

waaaay too many.
I wish we get back to 'guide dogs only' sharpish.

it's getting ridiculous with no concern for hygiene and people with allergies or (rational) fear of dogs.

HamstersAreMyLife · 26/11/2023 19:01

Oh dear god surely not?! Thankfully this hasn't arrived in my town yet!

EyeRolling23 · 26/11/2023 19:01

ThePineapplePrincess · 26/11/2023 14:36

“Well behaved” or not, your dog is dirty, smelly, hairy and in the way. I won’t make allowances for it.

We get it, you don't like dogs. But I also don't like prams getting in the way or taking up space (I fun most pram drivers entirely oblivious to the obstructions they cause), toddlers running around, screaming, touching stuff etc. We all have to put up with stuff we'd rather not, so maybe lighten up & live and let live rather than being so unnecessarily aggressive 😘
