Which shops let dogs in?

Planning a trip into town this afternoon to see the Christmas market. Might do a bit of shopping. Taking the pooch - which shops let dogs in? I know JL do.

(Don't worry, he won't pee or poo in here, he's very well trained).

@EyeRolling23 completely agree

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 26/11/2023 19:06

My boy is very well trained and well behaved but I wouldn’t really take him shopping because it’s not really a suitable environment for dogs. It would limit the places I could go and I’d be worried about ignorant morons running him over with prams etc. however quietly he was sitting by my side. Presumably they don’t do that to assistance dogs. I assume they can actually tell the difference.

We had the Christmas lights switch on in town this week. It was dark and very crowded and unbelievably noisy with a band shrieking out from the stage and hoards of people screaming and shouting. Couldn’t believe the amount of dogs I saw being dragged around. Even little ones who must have spent the night being accidentally trampled on and kicked. Bloody ridiculous.

greenacrylicpaint · 26/11/2023 19:13

We get it, you don't like dogs. But I also don't like prams getting in the way or taking up space (I fun most pram drivers entirely oblivious to the obstructions they cause), toddlers running around, screaming, touching stuff etc. We all have to put up with stuff we'd rather not, so maybe lighten up & live and let live rather than being so unnecessarily aggressive

great, animals versus humans again. how original <yawn>

@ThePineapplePrincess my dear, you're an animal too. I'd like to bet money you catch your next disease from another human animal not a dog and that you're in far more danger from an unpleasant person than the average family pet.

tresales · 26/11/2023 19:21

@momager1 it's not even about them being well trained for me, it's a bit gross having dander and little bits of hair and wet noses having been on things in stores that grosses me out. It feels a bit animal farm seeing animals in shops and I'm dog mad, just don't like seeing them in stores or cafes.
If I think more about it, having even well behaved dogs in stores will encourage other people with less well trained dogs to have them in store so imo it's better to not allow it and keep all dogs at home. Beautiful dogs though, I love how poodles move, it's so graceful.

ThePineapplePrincess · 26/11/2023 19:34

@waitingforittogetbetter It’s not deliberate, but I’m not looking out for dogs under my feet/pram and I won’t apologise if they get in the way.

@EyeRolling23 Prams contain humans. Humans have both a reason and a right to be in public places. There is no reason to inflict your nuisance pet on anyone else. It doesn’t need to go shopping or to a restaurant.

I won’t “live and let live” while dog owners are entitled, selfish and irresponsible and they will know about it if their mutt gets in my way.

Why though?

We had a lovely afternoon out. Despite some woman in JL complaining loudly about my dog being there (he hadn't gone near her, or had any impact on her whatsoever).

Because there have been a few dog hating threads recently, and I suspect you’re on a bit of a wind up mission here? I’m very much with you btw. Dogs (well behaved ones) should be welcome at as many places as possible, but you are poking the bear with this post. Dog haters will be frothing at the mouth at the suggestion that you were taking your dog shopping today, and I can already see many have taken the bait…..

Floofydawg · 26/11/2023 20:09

@Livelovebehappy it wasn't my intention. If people want to froth, it's up to them

Did your dog enjoy John Lewis? What department did it like the best? Did it buy anything nice?

What an earth does a dog get out of going shopping

It gets to choose its own treats. Our two are so cute they get fussed over every few paces, they love all the attention.

@Blossomtoes very cute dogs

BIossomtoes · 26/11/2023 22:12

Thank you, they’re very lovely.

It’s a dog. It doesn’t have a bloody clue what’s going on.

miniegg3 · 26/11/2023 22:30

Honestly I love dogs and ha e one myself, but I really can't get my head around people wanting to drag their "furbabies" around shops/restaurants and everywhere else these days 🙄

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/11/2023 22:34

Aaahhh! Don't say "furbabies"!

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/11/2023 22:35

Prefer keeping my dogs at home, can't be doing with all the hassle.

Yes. And?

Tetchypants · 26/11/2023 22:42

Ban them all! Dogs, horses, children, prams, hamsters … The only things allowed in shops should be a) able to walk quickly in a straight line and b) able to pay for whatever they want to buy or piss on.

Flickersy · 26/11/2023 22:51

I never get the fuss about dogs in shops and "hygiene".

Firstly, shops aren't hygienic places. Anyone who has worked in one can attest to this. They are pretty mucky. Even the naice ones, like John Lewis.

Secondly, you are exponentially more likely to catch disease from another human than you are a dog.

Thirdly, humans are not hygienic. Do you have any idea how many people don't wash their hands after using the loo?

Fourthly and finally, in spite of all three points above the human race has not keeled over just yet.

A dog in a shop is not a hygiene risk. In an operating theatre, you'd have a point. But not in W H Smiths.

BinkyBeaufort · 26/11/2023 23:08

If you put together a list please post it so I know which shops to avoid.

NotAnotherPylon · 26/11/2023 23:15

I like to take my goldfish, Gary, into B&M where he can choose his own fish food while I'm picking up a few bottles of shower gel and a multipack of Doritos Cool Original. Sometimes he takes a notion for the tropical food over the cold water stuff. He's very adventurous like that. We do leave a trail of stinky fish water behind us but other than that, he's very well behaved. I can't leave him at home on his own for too long because he gets very depressed.

greenacrylicpaint · 27/11/2023 06:21

Thirdly, humans are not hygienic. Do you have any idea how many people don't wash their hands after using the loo?

humans don't tend to lick the wares on the low shelf and don't tend to cock their legs to piss against corners indoors.

Not does my dog, and nor do the dogs of other responsible dog owners, because we don't let them.
