Which shops let dogs in?

Planning a trip into town this afternoon to see the Christmas market. Might do a bit of shopping. Taking the pooch - which shops let dogs in? I know JL do.

(Don't worry, he won't pee or poo in here, he's very well trained).

@Grumio I find it very easy to believe, having seen many dog threads on MN!

Weloveflowerss · 26/11/2023 14:31

Brave asking this question on here OP, this is a known dog snob forum 🤣 happy Christmas shopping with your pooch!

momager1 · 26/11/2023 14:32

@Grumio I get it.. and i totally understand that not everyone loves dogs .. some are scared with very good reason. That is why mine do NOT interact at all unless someone approaches them. They were trained this was by me. Our local bar on the beach brings my dogs chicken or beef just because they love them. Badly behaved dogs are down to a lack of training. Mine do not leave my feet.

Starbucks 😂

Not all Starbucks do

ThePineapplePrincess · 26/11/2023 14:34

Ugh. This is vile. I have accidentally run over a few dogs with my pram at crowded Christmas markets.

I’m not sorry. I won’t apologise. They shouldn’t be there. They’re a nuisance and in the way.

Your dog just being in a shop would stress out my autistic child who is phobic. Doesn't really matter how well behaved it is. If you don't need to take it shopping then please don't.

Grumio · 26/11/2023 14:36

@momager1 that's great and you are clearly a responsible dog owner but if I went into a cafe or shop and your dogs were there I would just leave because I'm scared of dogs and really don't like them. How is it fair that I have to find somewhere to shop or eat in just so your pooches can witness you sip your tea?

“Well behaved” or not, your dog is dirty, smelly, hairy and in the way. I won’t make allowances for it.

momager1 · 26/11/2023 14:36

@DoktorPeppa I never take my mutts in a shop..but. Had you.. a mother needed me to move or leave. I WOULD because I am a mother although now all grown. DOGS do not trump CHILDREN.

Grumio · 26/11/2023 14:39

Am on my app so I can't edit. I have no way of knowing which dogs will interact with me and which won't. I don't want to have to find out the hard way so I just won't run the risk. Not all dogs are how you describe yours. In fact a huge majority aren't in my experience. It's just selfish IMO.

ProvisionsOnTheDock · 26/11/2023 14:40

Just leave your dog at home!

momager1 · 26/11/2023 14:41

d then go somewhere else;. my dogs get groomed monthly and bathed weekly and I am SO very careful where we go .. went today.. 6 other dogs barking and being idiots..mine did what they have been trained to..ignored and lay at my feet.. so. I live in the caribean where there are street and beach dogs everywhere.. I am fucking PROUD of my mutts . they know their boundries and respect them...as do I

Super dry

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 26/11/2023 14:41

Ones with poor levels of hygiene

I'll get my coat

Peacheroo · 26/11/2023 14:43

I love dogs! But why limit where you can go on a shopping trip by taking your dog? Just leave it.

momager1 · 26/11/2023 14:46

@Grumio you are right. You do not know my dogs are safe. I need to take a little time to reflect on when my kids were young. I avoided big dogs... mine are big but poodles lol.. so maybe I AMBU I KNOW my dogs are safe and well trained.. YOU do not . I think i want to thank you.. I am going to have a think about this.

UnimaginableWindBird · 26/11/2023 14:47

I used to work in a shop which sold soft toys which were aimed at newborn babies. Dogs would regularly come in and nose around at the cuddly toys, so I don't recommend ever buying a toy from the lower shelves of a dog-friendly shop if you have any objections to it being covered with dog hair and saliva.

DustyLee123 · 26/11/2023 14:48

People are allergic to peanuts, but I don’t see shops/cafes banning them.

They don't have them wandering around the shop rubbing themselves on things and licking people though

You can get a reaction from it being on peoples breath though, and from touching things.

Baffledandalarmed · 26/11/2023 14:51

fishfingersandtoes · 26/11/2023 14:31

Can't you just tie them up outside the shop? Is that not a thing now?

No. It's not.

Because in the last 15+ years people have become scummy and will steal dogs left outside of shops. They literally steal dogs out of gardens. So no, leaving a dog outside is not something that dog owners can do anymore. Tbh it's why a lot of shop owners on my local village hughstreet allow dogs in; because people wanted to pop in before/after a muddy walk and weren't willing to risk leaving their dogs outside.

But going back to the thread:

  • Joules
  • Some independent shops (you can always ask them!)

I am allergic to nuts so I know that but it's much easier to avoid than dogs because nuts don't have minds of their own...

I carry hand sanitiser and don't touch things in shops. But dogs can come and touch you

Ilotca · 26/11/2023 14:54

Fucking all of them, it feels like.

momager1 · 26/11/2023 14:57

no fucking way in hell would I leave my dogs outside a shop .. they are my babies and I would NEVER take the chance of them being stolen (which they would be as they are pedigrees from an amazing line of standard poodles ) regardless they could be a god damn mutt or street dog.. they are our family..pedigree or not. Love the monsters so much. BUT i would probably not take my dogs in a shop unless emergency
