I can’t decide what to make some guests next week.
Which one would you prefer?

Sticky toffee, only because most B&B comes with raisins or sultanas 🤢

Just checking people know that bread and butter pudding (delicious) is different to bread pudding (vile)

Yes, very well acquainted with the difference.

Can’t eat either. B&BP is actually worse IMO. Higher sliminess factor.

I prefer bread and butter pudding but I think sticky toffee has wider appeal

Haha, me!

I followed a recipe....it was just bread and butter, but with some raisins and cinnamon, I think?

Either way, it was vile Grin

(Although looking like that was possibly my fault Blush)

So just a raisin sandwich then? 😃

ThePoshUns · 02/11/2023 18:26

Bread and butter

BakewellPud · 02/11/2023 18:42

Sticky toffee!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/11/2023 18:48

A bit of both, please. And ice cream with the B&B pudding.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/11/2023 18:50

sticky toffee with a jug of hot toffee sauce and ice-cream

Mischance · 02/11/2023 18:53

Definitely the Stiffy Cocky pudding as it is known in our house!

Mistymountain · 02/11/2023 18:58

Sticky toffee all the way

Theforeverhome · 02/11/2023 19:01

Bread and butter made with brioche or panettone spread with marmalade. Served with cream.

I do like sticky toffee but it’s been done to death.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 02/11/2023 19:03

Bread and butter pudding made with brioche and Baileys. Delicious

PixiePirate · 02/11/2023 19:03

Both are lovely. Bread and butter made with brioche and sultanas is my favourite though.

AirFryerFrequentFlyer · 02/11/2023 19:03

Sticky toffee definitely.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 02/11/2023 19:29

Sticky toffee

With cream or ice cream - not custard

Wotchaz · 02/11/2023 19:57

I love both, but prefer B&B. Though got to be cream not custard

justjeansandanicetop · 02/11/2023 20:17

@HereForTheFreeLunch yes, it pretty much was just a gloopy raisin sandwich 😄

Which is why I've only ever had it once 😂

All the BBP haters -- do any of you not eat crême caramel or crême brûlée? Because a good, home-made BBP recipe is basically the same but with a crispy, sweet topping of buttered bread/brioche/hot cross buns toasted to a golden brown in the oven.
The egg custard should be set, but not stodgy or slimy. Or wet.

Sultanas are better than raisins or currants they are softer and don't burn as easily but can easily be left out if you don't like them. (I soak them in little PX sherry beforehand. Or rum. )

No, eggy puddings are vile.

This recipe by Simon Hopkinson for sticky toffee pudding is absolutely fantastic, as well as easy to make.

It's now demanded by my family for Christmas dessert. I serve it with cream and also vanilla ice-cream.

Siobhan nope, wouldn't touch either of those either. Custard based puddings (and Custard on puddings) are given a big swerve here.

The John Tovey recipe for STP is delicious , easy to freeze too.
I have four of the Lakeland metal pudding basins so usually half the recipe in these and the other ha;f in foil basins to freeze

Dares are soaked in Camp Coffee flavoured liquid , the Simon Hopkinson one uses tea.

When Delia Smith did STP she out pecans and sauce over then grilled (but you need to watch like a hawk). I put some pecans in half the sauce , the rest plain.

NotFastButFurious · 03/11/2023 15:03

sticky toffee

BIWI · 03/11/2023 15:39

The recipe I have doesn't have that bit in about using a teabag! So I've never used one. Just soaked the dates in boiling water.

No way would I eat those milky jelly wobbly puddings either. I tried BBP made with hot cross buns and it was still gross. Brioche/bread/buns are meant to be dry, not soggy. Horrible.
