I can’t decide what to make some guests next week.
Which one would you prefer?

That's bread pudding, it's a different animal altogether from bread & butter pudding, made in a different way.

Definitely sticky toffee. I would decline bread & butter pudding.

Jam sponge pudding or chocolate perhaps.

But I would more likely go for apple pie and custard for a hot pudding

I have had some awful STPs lately, just squares of brownish sponge, dry and with no stickiness at all. (And not nearly enough proper sauce, if any. Ice cream just Won't Do.)
So if you're going to make it please ensure it's the real thing, chopped dates are essential for texture and flavour, as is the proper sticky toffee topping and sauce. Plus cream or custard or good ice cream on the side.
Similarly, a well made BBP is a delight, crispy on top, lightly sweet and with a delicate wobble to the custard. It's also very nice served with a toffee sauce...
I'd do both.
