RIP Miss Chanandler Bong

😢

SoupDragon · 29/10/2023 09:02

Oh no. How awful. That's terrible news.

What are the recent Instagram posts about? Batman?

Apparently one of the chapters in his book was called Batman. Not sure if that’s true as I haven’t read it. I really really hope he didn’t relapse after all his struggles. It’s incredibly sad.

Cleaningismycardio · 29/10/2023 09:05

This is so sad. I loved Friends. Not really understanding why people would come on an RIP thread to bash those who are posting their sympathies and memories. I didn't know Matthew Perry but he, like many other actors, singers, writers, comedians, other public figures etc have contributed to my life in one way or another and to different degrees. I loved watching Friends and he was my favourite! I have great memories of laughing with my brother watching it while explaining to my confused parents why it was the greatest show on earth. When I moved to uni and had my first flat share experience it was something that helped us bond. Matthew Perry was extremely funny and he and the rest of the Friends cast brought joy and laughter to many. That is why we choose to remember him and wish to post. I am sure his family and friends will be comforted to know that people from across the world are thankful for the positive contribution he made to their lives.

Thoughts for his family, friends and all who knew him as they mourn his death at such a young age.

ThreeRingCircus · 29/10/2023 09:14

His last few Instagram posts definitely seem like a cry for help. It just seems too coincidental with the cranberries post and asking whether people know what he's trying to tell them. Dolores from The Cranberries died by drowning.

He was very talented, what a tragic waste.

BashfulClam · 29/10/2023 09:14

Chandler was always the best Friend. Friends was so impactful to my
life as it started when I was 15 and I wanted that life…would his previous addiction have harmed his heart?

hby9628 · 29/10/2023 09:20

So saddened by this news. I hope he finds some peace. What an absolute shame.

ManAboutTown · 29/10/2023 09:24

A premature death is always a tragic event and in this case someone who brought pleasure to millions with his onscreen work. Whilst a shock his history of addiction makes it not a total surprise. Terrible for his nearest and dearest and my condolences to them

Batman was the name of the last chapter in his book. I think his last few posts were a cry for help. I think the picture he posted of himself in his hot tub he said ‘oh so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I am Mattman’ I don’t know but I know a lot of recovered addicts still feel so empty and so alone. I’m truly so sad about this news.

Bendysnap · 29/10/2023 09:28

His recent autobiography was a well-written and insightful read. Really recommend it.

Springforward1 · 29/10/2023 09:32

Love Friends, Loved Chandler, so sad ❤️

OneCup · 29/10/2023 09:33

So sad to wake up to this news.
It felt like he'd turned a corner what with writing his autobiography.

I had just finished rewatching friends and realised I really had a soft spot for him.

lizkt · 29/10/2023 09:33

I read his autobiography in the summer. I was struck by something he wrote along the lines of...

'It's hard to live when you have a brain that keeps trying to kill you"

In the context of his book, his death doesn't surprise me. So sad though.

LadyGrinningSoul85 · 29/10/2023 09:34

My favourite 'friend'.
The most brutally honest 'friend'.

RIP MP.

Tonight1 · 29/10/2023 09:35

I was never into Friends but had heard about his various struggles.

It is sad he died at a relatively young age for his family and friends.

thevegetablesoup · 29/10/2023 09:41

This death has resonated with me in a way that other celeb deaths haven't, I think because I came of age with Friends and culturally it had a massive impact. And I think Perry's style of comedy, so cynical and dark, became a sort of touchstone for me and other people of my generation, in a way that isn't the case anymore in the younger generations who seem to prefer much more sentimental, instagrammable perfection without a lot of humour or sark, or self deprecation. I'm probably not expressing this very well but I am feeling his loss today. What a talent he was.

Poudretteite · 29/10/2023 09:42

What??? How tragic. RIP

I think it's probably people of a certain age, around 40, who grew up watching friends. It was so long running and popular, with so many catchphrases, it became part of our psyche.

I’m 42 !

Iturnedmyfaceaway · 29/10/2023 09:46

Now I’ll never find out out what Chandler’s job was.

Very well put. Completely agree. ❤️

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 29/10/2023 09:54

Oh no.

Chanandler Bong…

friends - silly, annoying and sometimes problematic as it is - is one of my comfort tv shows. And I have always adored how Matthew Perry played Chandler.

he was fairly young as well. How sad.

Same! I used to re-watch friends when I had shitty days in law school or during my first internships.

it was just comforting. So this death does resonate much more than that of other celebrities.

and drowning in your own hot tub seems a special kind of sad as well, tbh.
