What’s your morning routine?

TheBeautifulLisette · 17/09/2023 15:44

I’m watching a YouTube video where a woman is trying out her friends’ morning routines (during lockdown).

If you have a morning routine that works for you, please share it. I’m stuck in a rut and it might be fun to try different things.

@Allthecatseverywhereallatonce but my evening routine is that I'm in bed at 8pm 🤣

Fair enough, just in awe of what people achieve 😄.I just wonder if I could tweek it a bit. I aim to be in bed by 10pm. Can't go much earlier as I have teens.

twistyizzy · 17/09/2023 19:09

@Allthecatseverywhereallatonce I think it genuinely depends on whether you are a lark or owl. I am most productive in a morning so I do the bulk of my day in the morning.
That means once I've finished work I only have to see to the horse again, make tea and then I'm off for shower and bed! DH is an owl so takes over bedtime routine with DD + dog.

Up at 6.15 , put on kettle to boil while I shower and wash my hair . Get dressed and minimal makeup while having coffee and the at about 6.45 sit down with rest of coffee and toast and read the news . 7am wake up son , get him a drink and snack ( he has proper breakfast at breakfast club . Get lunches out of fridge and fill water bottles while son gets dressed / does teeth and then leave house between 7.30 and 7.45 to drop son at his breakfast club and then go to my work . No time to do any housework before I leave because I need my 15 mins peace to wake up .

TitanicWasAGreatMovie · 17/09/2023 19:11

Not much morning yoga and meditation in the real world I am happy to see 🤣!
Me -
6.20 alarm goes off, get up, loo, kettle on, shower.
Hair wash every 2 or 3 days.
Then cup of tea while emptying the dishwasher.
Make up, hair, get dressed - clothes put out the night before.
Washing out if it went on overnight.
Out the door 7.15.
40 minute bus journey to get into the day - Duolingo for 3 minutes, news headlines then radio/music/Audible and doze until I get into the city...

ThePinkQualityStreet · 17/09/2023 19:13

6am naturally wake up without fail, no alarm needed for me

browse phone for 20 mins (something I need to stop doing)

6.20am protein shake with creatine

6.25am 3 mile walk

7.20am wake kids, make the breakfast

8.10am school run

9am return home and log on to laptop for work

10am eat porridge

Torganer · 17/09/2023 19:19

Weekdays, if a normal day (i.e., no early meetings that travelling to) then:
Husband brings me coffee in bed and I read the news and check emails, plan work for the day.
Shower and get ready (if not going for a jog after drop off.
Wake toddler and get them dressed.
Take toddler to nursery for 0800 (husband does pick ups).
If no immediate meetings, quick run around the park on the way home if wfh, or straight to tube to get to the office.

WeWereInParis · 17/09/2023 19:19

Shower at 6:45
Get dressed, make up etc
Downstairs for 7:15
DD1(4) has breakfast while I unload the dishwasher and DH gets DD2(16 months) ready for nursery.
7:45 leave with DD2 to take her to nursery.
8:15 get back, leave with DD1 to walk her to school.
8:45 breakfast
9:00 wfh

DH starts work (wfh) at 8 so gets DD1 ready after her breakfast while I'm out taking DD2 to nursery, then she watches 15 mins of tv until I get back.

School and nursery bags are packed the night before, plus we lay out clothes. DD1 lays out her uniform.

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:21

I find this a really weird concept! Aren't the majority of morning routines going to be get up, get dressed & go to work, perhaps throw in dc. Obviously if you don't work & have older or no dc your routine will be very different.

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:21

I don't understand how you can get stuck in a rut with a morning routine?

GingerLiberalFeminist · 17/09/2023 19:22

I'm on mat leave and DH and I have an arrangement I do night pick ups and he does 5am onwards. LO is 8 months.

7am ish wake up and put the Today programme on my phone, head down in my nightie!
Tea, wordle, make up protein shakes and formula for the day.
8am ish Breakfast with LO and DH
8.30 LO goes for a nap, I get dressed and then clean up high chair/kitchen and ~waft about~ any other chores.

When I was working it was
6am alarm, Today Programme
Pilates for 20 min
Check emails, have tea and breakfast
7.20am leave for work on bike to train
8.20am start work

I wish I was as fit as I was pre baby 😅

Cece92 · 17/09/2023 19:24

Monday - Friday get up at half 6, quick wash, then I start getting ready. 7am I wake my daughter up she gets herself sorted. 7.45 down to make her packed lunch, we leave 7.55 as she goes breakfast club at 8.15 and I head to work for 9. The weekend I wake when I wake usually 8, she's anytime from 9-11. We don't have routine at the weekend except horse riding Saturday at 3.30 xx

Augustone · 17/09/2023 17:44

Dishwater - not dishwasher!

Although dishwashers are also dull come to think of it. Useful but dull

It's actually ditch water I found out recently is being saying dish water my whole life

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:25

On my days working I wake up at 6:30 ish, get ready/dressed & get to work at 7:45. Eat breakfast with a colleague or at my desk later.

Hermione101 · 17/09/2023 19:27

if DP is WFH:

5:15 wake up
5:15-6:00am black coffee and answer messages from family on west coast US or read my book, no scrolling/news
6-6:30: walk to gym
6:30-7:45 gym
8am home and take DC to school on bike
8:30 home
8:30-9:30 eat/shower/dinner prep/admin/laundry/whatever needs to get done
9:30 WFH

If DP is in office

6am wake up
6-6:45: coffee, read books with DC in bed
6:45-7:45 breakfast/getting ready/dinner prep
7:45- 8:30 school run
8-30-9:30 run
9:30 work

i’m in the office 2x a week, DP takes DC to a school and I’m out at 6am for the gym and at my desk at 9am. Prep clothes/school and work things the night before.

itsgettingweird · 17/09/2023 19:29

Not one many would aspire to follow!

4am alarm goes off.

Get up boil kettle. Make coffee and flask of coffee. Grab banana and pre boiled egg.
Wash, teeth and dress in sports wear.

4.45am take ds swim training and do a 5.5k walk.

7.30am get home.

Wash, change into work clothes, heat lunch and Chuck in thermos.

7.55am leave to drop ds off and go to work.

There's a reason I don't watch videos of other peoples morning routines.

It's called jealousy 🤣🤣

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:29

Days i'm not working. Get up at 7 am, sort dc out & get them to school for 8:30. Either go for coffee with friend after/high street for errands or breakfast with dh.

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:31

4.45am take ds swim training and do a 5.5k walk.

😱

I thought my 6:30 starts were bad but I only do them because I finish work between 2 & 3 depending on the day.

Badhairday101 · 17/09/2023 19:32

5am get up, brush teeth and throw some clothes on.
5.10 walk the dog
6.15 get back from dog walk and make a coffee
6.20 shower
6.30 get ready for work
6.50 feed the dog and wake my daughter up so she's up for school before I leave.
7am leave for work

I've never been a morning person and the 5am get up kills me.

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:32

How do people cope with 5am/6am walks in the depths of miserable winter?

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:33

And sorry to be crude but I assume that means morning sex is never on the cards! 😆

Missflowers1981 · 17/09/2023 19:34

I get up at 5:30 am - I write in a journal for 20 min ( I list good memories I have had over the years) then I listen to people like Abraham hicks, Joe Dispenza etc whilst I have coffee and a vitamin c drink. Shower at 6:30, dress, put makeup on and leave at 7 to go to work. I try to walk there every day unless it’s pouring.

I try to do these especially on work days as I find it makes me calm and feels like I have had proper time to myself before work. I also like the peace and quiet of mornings before it feels like the rest of the world is up.

Yes I could technically sleep in for an extra 45 min but I often feel better doing my routine. I try to get to bed by 9-10pm - my body is readjusting after the summer holidays. Also a teacher.

twistyizzy · 17/09/2023 19:34

@billysillydilly you just get on with it. Animals (dogs + horses) can't do themselves so that's the commitment you make when you get them.

itsgettingweird · 17/09/2023 19:35

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:31

😱

In finish work at 4.

Leave again at 4.30 to take ds training. Home between 7.30 and 8.30pm depending on day.

On the 2 days he trains for 3 hours I come home and do food prep and laundry etc or food shop. On 2 shorter days I volunteer at club one evening and chat the other.

It's nuts!!! 🫣🤪

twistyizzy · 17/09/2023 19:35

@billysillydilly urgh no thanks! I've carefully orchestrated my AM/PM routines to avoid it 😄.
