What’s your morning routine?

TheBeautifulLisette · 17/09/2023 15:44

I’m watching a YouTube video where a woman is trying out her friends’ morning routines (during lockdown).

If you have a morning routine that works for you, please share it. I’m stuck in a rut and it might be fun to try different things.

I love TikTok for this. Loads of women share their morning routine and I find them really inspiring. Although sadly my morning routine is generally lying in bed watching TikTok's of people's morning routines, and getting nothing done.

I have deliberately never got TikTok for exactly this reason! Maybe I can find an Insta hashtag.

It is very basic but here goes...
Up at 6, shower and wash hair
Make coffee and drink it while putting on make up and watching some rubbish on catch up e.g Selling Sunset until I come to life
Dry hair, get dressed, take my lunch out of fridge (prepped the night before) and leave for work at around 7.

This is why I'm not an Instagram influencer- I'm as dull as dishwasher and all the above is certainly not carried out in an 'Instaworthy' house.....

Augustone · 17/09/2023 17:44

Dishwater - not dishwasher!

Although dishwashers are also dull come to think of it. Useful but dull

DaisyDando · 17/09/2023 17:45

Shower, coffee, Wordle.

WinchSparkle80 · 17/09/2023 17:47

6:30 up with alarm
Wordle whilst kettle boiling
Make a cuppa and read news/mumsnet… mainly mumsnet.
Kids up, make their breakfast 7ish
Shower and get dressed
Watch breakfast tv with coffee made by DH, empty dishwasher, washing on
Start work 8:30 (WAH)

ThePoshUns · 17/09/2023 17:55

Alarm at 6.
Cup of tea in bed , Wordle and doom scroll
6.30 shower, hair and make up
7.15 leave for work

dontgobaconmyheart · 17/09/2023 17:58

I don't really have one? It depends entirely on how much time I have, how early I either woke up or managed to wake up (eg not snoozing the alarm) and what I'm doing that day.

As a broad guide I wake up, cuddle the puppy, scroll for 10 mins or so, get up and drink a big glass of water/coconut water, do the pup some breakfast and let him out to the garden, wash my hair, dry it, get ready with a youtube video on in the background and then go out or get on with the day if I'm going to be at home.

AnEventfulday · 17/09/2023 17:59

I’ve had the same morning routine for about 20 years now ! (ASD)

7am get up
shower
8am breakfast and coffee
9am -1145am I clean and tidy (OCD)
1145am make lunch for 12

Gwendimarco · 17/09/2023 18:05

Hit snooze x3
Cuddle the cat
Do wordle
See that it’s 8am
Reluctantly slide out of bed
Feed cat
Quick shower & teeth
Dress
As much makeup as time allows
Dash out of the door with an apple in hand.

Due to shift work (long days) and dcs with quite changeable routines mine varies a bit.

However my main principles are that I need an absolute minimum of 40 minutes to go from bed to driving off. In those 40 minutes all of the following happen:

one mug of proper coffee
shower and hair wash, teeth clean, basic make up (primer, base, mascara)
(hair dries naturally until I’m about to leave then I do a quick blow dry of fringe and ends)

Anything ‘extra’ that needs doing I add extra time - such as breakfast, making packed lunch, hanging washing out, quick tidy round. So most mornings I get up an hour before I leave.

on days off I don’t always wash my hair as I go for an early ish swim and wash it there. I do of course have a quick swish to wash my body and rinse my hair before I go in the pool…

I’m very organised so I’d rarely find myself in a position with needing to unexpectedly iron a shirt or run out to buy bread for a packed lunch for my dc, I do plan ahead.

we have an excellent system at work where we do a cafe run first thing which kind of covers breakfast and lunch 😋

Nomorecoconutboosts · 17/09/2023 18:16

Oh and I gave up snoozing, I’d rather actually sleep, or make myself get up - or as a minimum sit up and look at my phone…

gingeristhenewblack43 · 17/09/2023 18:24

6.30 - hit snooze on alarm
6.45 - second alarm, lie in bed for 5 mins wondering if I would have won the lottery if I had put it on.
6.50 - downstairs to feed guinea pigs and get DD's breakfast.
7.00 - coffee and scrolling
7.30 - shower and teeth while simultaneously shouting through to DD to get up and get dressed.
7.45 - get myself dressed while simultaneously shouting through to DD to get up and get dressed.
8.00 - downstairs to make DD's packed lunch while simultaneously shouting up the stairs for DD to come down and brush her hair.
8.15 - leave to drop DD at school
8.30 - log on to work

2reefsin30knots · 17/09/2023 18:24

5.15 alarm
5.30 sit at computer and work with coffee
6.20 wake DS, bring up any laundry from night before
6.30 shower and dress
6.50 pack for work and chase DS around to finish getting ready
7.10 Drop DS to his dad's office- they have coffee together before DS has school registration at 7.40
7.30 arrive at work and get started for the day

PlantDoctor · 17/09/2023 18:30

I get up at 7, get DD fed and ready for preschool, usually unload dishwasher and set washing machine going while drinking coffee. Take her to preschool, walk the dog, then get to work self employed and WFH for about half 9. Usually shower at night.

Inextremis · 17/09/2023 18:34

Retired, so wake up when I wake up (usually around 8), bathroom, large black coffee, read the news, FaceBook, Mumsnet, check email. Empty the dishwasher. Take the dogs out for a while, then home for breakfast. I bathe/shower in the evenings, usually.

Iamblossom · 17/09/2023 18:35

Up
Drink water by bed
Brush teeth, dress in running gear
Eat banana and drink a coffee
Apply lip balm
Go running with dogs and a friend(s) if around or by myself
Back, shower,, dry hair, apply make up
Eat breakfast
Start work

Hedjwitch · 17/09/2023 18:35

I really really struggle to get up and need a lot of sleep,so my morning routine has been pared back to allow me as much time in bed as possible.
Shower or bath the night before.
Alarm goes off at 7.10. Struggle to wake up. Fall out of bed at 7.30.
Go for a pee, wash hands and face.
Feed cat
Get dressed.
1 minute make up
Clean teeth.
Head out.
I have a 40 minute drive to the office where I have a coffee and get work underway

twistyizzy · 17/09/2023 18:39

You can come and take over my routine for a couple of weeks so I can have a lie in 🤣
5am up
5.10 drive to yard with dog
5.20 bring horse in + feed
5.30 poo pick field while dog runs wild chasing rabbits. Usually 2 x heavy barrows as 3 horses in field
6am fill haynets etc
6.15 leave yard for home
6.30 walk dog + do some training
7am house
Get DD up + breakfast
Put a load of washing on
Wash up breakfast stuff
7.55 make sure DD has left to catch bus
8am life admin
8.30am log on to work

Treslittlebirds · 17/09/2023 18:48

If it’s a Pre school and work day-alarm at 7.30, up, make Dds breakfast & cup of green tea, watch morning tv with Dd for half an hour or so/go on phone.
Upstairs around 8-shower, dressed, make up, get Dd ready, do her hair (curly and thick-bane of my life) drop Dd at pre school, carry on to work. Similar routine if not working, but no shower and make up, drop Dd, then dog walk and home to chill for a bit. If no Pre school, sleep in a bit -gone 8, we can take our time, have eggs or Jan cakes, outside of nice, lounge around a bit and watch tv, then take our dog out and do things in the day.
I hate early wake ups and try to avoid if possible

Treslittlebirds · 17/09/2023 18:49

*Pancakes
*Outside if nice

Allthecatseverywhereallatonce · 17/09/2023 18:57

Up at 4 to feed the cats 😭
Up again at 05:15, wash face,do teeth skin care.
Downstairs, coffee, hair, make up.
Wake ds up at 6 for breakfast.
Pack lunch put on uniform.
Out the door 06:30 for work at 07:00 for 13 hours 😭

As I get up so early, I have to get ready downstairs so, I don't wake my dh up.
I shower the night before It's all I can do to get ready in the morning, no time for anything else.
I do however make myself a Collagen coffee to take to work. That is the only Instagram worthy thing of my morning.

Allthecatseverywhereallatonce · 17/09/2023 19:01

I feel rather depressed looking at others routines. I don't have time for all the extra bits. I wish I could do a few bits before work, washing/working out. I tried it once but getting up at 04:30 was too much.

JustPickleRick · 17/09/2023 19:02

Alarm goes off at 6, snooze until 6:15
Teeth, face cleanse and moisturise, makeup on - very minimal! Brush hair and curl if time.
Get changed quiet as a mouse as DP still snoozing a in bed.
Head to kitchen to get lunches out of fridge and fill water bottles/pack bags.
Wake DS up at 6:45, he does his teeth and gets changed. I might sit down whilst he's doing that or I might have a quick slice of toast or bowl of cereal.
Out the door about 7:05 to drop off at breakfast club for 7:15
Arrive at my work (teacher) for about 7:23 and then try to get as much as possible done before the kids arrive at 8:30.
