What’s your morning routine?

I’m watching a YouTube video where a woman is trying out her friends’ morning routines (during lockdown).

If you have a morning routine that works for you, please share it. I’m stuck in a rut and it might be fun to try different things.

@billysillydilly

The morning routine of Princess Margaret is very inspirational

Weekday routine is identical every day and definitely not insta/til took worthy:
6.15 alarm. Dh makes coffee
6.25 out of bed, shower, teeth, dressed, hair, makeup (very minimal)
6.45 downstairs for breakfast, finish coffee.
7.00 make lunch
7.10 out the door.
Preferably without exchanging a word with anyone. Dh might get a few words out of me if f he's very lucky!

If a normal wfh day…

7am ish get up - toilet, wake DC1
throw clothes on
let dog out
coffee
sort breakfasts
chase eldest
7:30 wake DC2
chase DC2 to get dressed
breakfast usually while doomscrolling
7:50 make sure DC1 gets out door semi presentable
sort hair & make up
put washing machine on
on a good day dishwasher & tidy kitchen
teethbrushing
switch work laptop on
drink, snack, shoes, coat for DC2
8:30 walk to school with dog
9am home to start work

sure it could be way more chilled & productive but I’m not a morning person, not a night owl either just bloody tired

6:15 alarm goes off. Drink some of bedside PLJ, put glasses and dressing gown on
downstairs: make pot of tea, prep coffee maker, take oats out of fridge, maybe put away a couple of things off the draining board
take tea upstairs - H's in bedroom, mine in bathroom; go to loo, have sink wash, moisturise face and apply deodorant
take tea mug downstairs, switch on coffee maker, go back up
body lotion on feet, elbows and decolletage (oo, fancy), get dressed, comb hair, earrings in
take phone dowstairs, pour coffee, take H's upstairs, divert into lounge on way back down to fetch orange from fruit bowl and open curtains
chop lunchtime salad, peel and segment orange and put in pot, put nuts in pot, fill water bottle
drink coffee, eat oats
go to loo, put stuff in rucksack, put on shoes and coat
7:15 ish leave house, walk to work (about 35 minutes)

I thought the whole idea is that it's a rut? If you have to think about it then it's not a helpful routine.

5:45 out of bed, teeth, face, gym wear
6:00 coffee, pre workout
6:15 at gym, steps, weights workout then cardio
8:00 home, breakfast
8:30-3:15 work, house work, laundry, appointments, more steps, dog walk etc son home from school, shower into pjs and make sure the next day is prepped
3:15-22:30 more house stuff, chatting with family. We run a serviced accommodation company so the hours are very varied. Bed at 23:00 at the very latest 😴

SwordToFlamethrower · 17/09/2023 23:18

Wake up. Go pee. Get back in bed. Snuggle husband and baby. Get up and have coffee. Decide what we are going to do today or just do something fun or house work. Either get dressed or stay in PJs.

Feed the dog
Breakfast and coffee
Shower
Get on with rest of day

CallieQ · 18/09/2023 01:11

Never get up before 9...

Snowpaw · 18/09/2023 07:05

6.30 DD comes wandering into my bed for a hug.
7am we both get up
empty dishwasher and reload
cook breakfast, make fresh coffee
I have shower, DD plays
we both get dressed and teeth
DD plays, I sort out our bags for the day.
set washing machine going.

8.45am walk to school with DD.
I either go to the gym after that or start WFH

Wake up, usually after at leat two previous wake ups during the night due to pain
Give cat her tablet which is kept in drawer by my bed so that she can have it first thing as needs to be thirty minutes before her breakfast
Go to loo and wash face and brush teeth and use water flosser
Clean litter trays and change cats water
Give cat her breakfast
Go back to bed with a drink and my tablets and breakfast
Wait till pain allows me to get up again, if it does
Not very high flying is it?!

Nannyfannybanny · 18/09/2023 08:59

Define "morning"!! When I was working (night nursing) 12.5 hour shift, almost 50 miles drive home, I just fell into bed (with the dogs) didn't clean my teeth or anything else that might wake me up. Now retired, after 30 years nights,am a rubbish sleeper,we also have a puppy 10 weeks old. Morning today was 2.30 outside for a wee, then 5.30 both had a wee,(daddy day shift took over, fed dogs) I took my tea and book back to bed. We have solar panels now,so I have to wait till later for hot water to shower. So,no routine now, after 50 years of working, I deserve a break!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 18/09/2023 09:17

Weekdays
6.45 - alarm
6.50 - coffee in bed and do wordle
7ish (gets more ish as the week goes on) shower
get dressed
either grab pre done lunch out of fridge or make a sandwich
leg it out the door about 7.30ish

weekends
wake up at whatever hour my menopausal body decides to wake up - could be anywhere between 6 and 9
make coffee
sit in bed looking at crap online and doing wordle

it isn't Insta worthy

When I was working it was always one chore before leaving and then breakfast at work. I had a hideous commute so to avoid it I usually went in very early and would arrive on campus without the traffic chaos. A couple of colleagues also did this and my friend and I would have a tea together and chat in usually her office but sometimes mine. She was such a lovely person, I retired, she was about 12 years younger than me and she died just a couple of years after I retired completely unexpectedly.

Now I am retired I spend ages drinking tea in bed and taking my time. I do leave the house at 8 one day for a voluntary job but it’s within walking distance of my house.

Up at 5:30, let parrot out, change his water, coffee, scritches and loafing and checking work emails until 6:30, make a packed lunch (usually soup and a protein-rich snack of some sort), shower, wash hair, clean teeth, put on slap and curl setting mousse, let hair dry naturally in the hope of curls forming, dress, pack bag, put parrot chop in his chop bowl, check foraging feeder, put on iPad for him (hi contrast baby videos), pull curtain back so he can see the world, check bag contents, put on smart watch, feed parrot a sunflower seed and slip out quietly at about 07:15, walk to work (c. 35 minutes), text partner good morning, pick up a can of Monster on the way. That's it!

Put parrot back on his cage as I leave! He only flies freely when I'm home.
