What’s your morning routine?

TheBeautifulLisette · 17/09/2023 15:44

I’m watching a YouTube video where a woman is trying out her friends’ morning routines (during lockdown).

If you have a morning routine that works for you, please share it. I’m stuck in a rut and it might be fun to try different things.

Alarm goes off 6:45. Get up 6:50, coffee, wake up a grumpy teenager at 7, coffee empty dishwasher, rewake up the grumpy teenager at 7:10, toast more coffee, 7:30 get grumpy teen out the door & wake up disorganised teen, 7:30-8 clean kitchen, get dressed & washed and chivvy disorganised teen to remember basic things like putting on deodorant and brushing teeth, find one or more of; his tie, his shoes, his pe kit, his art folder..
8am, agree to talk disorganised teen to school. 8am - 8:25am, nice chat and walk with disorganised teen. Buy bread from bakery, walk back. 8:50, get a cup of tea/glass of water and start work.

Stuff of nightmares 😮

How do people cope with 5am/6am walks in the depths of miserable winter?

Just do!!! I find if I don't do the walk I'm more tired throughout the day.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms does stop play though!

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:36

🤣🤣

Decafflatteplease · 17/09/2023 19:36

DHs alarm goes off at 6 and he gets up. I get up around 6.30, have a cup of tea sat on the back step it's my morning ritual I need that blast of fresh air in the morning. Do packed lunches, make DC breakfast etc. 7am I go back upstairs to get ready and DH takes over with DC. 7.30 I'm back down again, and DH gets ready. 8 am we leave for school/work.

airforsharon · 17/09/2023 19:36

5.45am get up, wash hair/face, feed dogs, make a brew
6.15 do make up, dry hair, dress
6.45 back downstairs, tv or radio news on, another brew, put on washing/empty dishwasher
7am get dcs up, then make breakfast/pack lunches
7.45 clean teeth, check we've got everything needed
8am take dc to school
8.45 ish back home, and straight out again with the dogs

I always shower the night before as i like a good scrub/moisturise and find it a rush in the mornings - only exception is if it's hot, then i'll have a cool wash off when i do my hair

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:36

that was in response to "I've carefully orchestrated my AM/PM routines to avoid it"

Badhairday101 · 17/09/2023 19:40

@billysillydilly I think you just get used to it, the dog doesn't care what the weather is and she's bursting with energy in the morning so I can't just leave her. I've got a German shepherd so don't feel worried walking in the dark because even in the day people cross the road to avoid us. It's actually really nice most days because it's quiet and nobody's around.

EllaPaella · 17/09/2023 19:41

Days I am working - 6.15 start. Shower, feed dog, do hair/makeup, make pack lunches, make a smoothie for journey to work and leave the house at 7.

Days where I work from home - 7am start, shower, get dressed etc, wake kids up and make breakfast. Walk youngest DC to school then walk dog and combine with a sea swim with a friend. Come home and shower, have coffee and log on for work.

Weekends - depends entirely on whether been out the night before what time I get up. DH tends to get up first and bring me tea in bed. Eventually get up, dressed, go for a sea swim and coffee. Maybe go out for breakfast but if not I bring croissants home after my swim for everyone to have.

Really not very exciting...

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 17/09/2023 19:42

Alarm goes off at 5.15. Go downstairs for lots of coffee. Read, look online
5.30 Breakfast
5.45 Shower or bath. Wash hair if necessary. Get dressed and tie up hair.
6.30 Older children get up. They sort themselves out. I have another coffee and have a quick tidy round and wash up from breakfast. Make my bed. Open curtains. Fill up water bottles for everyone and put in fridge to cool. Sort work stuff and sort breakfast for DS5
7.00 First attempt to wake up DS5. He’s a very deep sleeper. Help him get dressed. He uses the toilet and brushes his own hair. This can take a while but he’s normally downstairs having breakfast by 7.30.
7.30ish get mine and DS5s prepared lunches out of the fridge and water bottles. Put a wash load in the washer and set it going.
7.40 Clean teeth with DS5. Remind all children we are leaving in twenty. Make DS5s bed with his help.
7.55 Shoes and coats on. Someone has always forgotten something from upstairs.
8.00 - 8,05 Leave house together for various drops. I’m usually at work by 8.30.

TheChosenTwo · 17/09/2023 19:43

Isn’t the morning routine supposed to be a bit of a rut?! If it works and everyone is out of the house on time then surely it’s fine as is?
mine has recently changed as my youngest is now at seniors and our whole morning routine has changed but essentially…
6am alarm goes off
6:10 shower and wash hair (if it’s a hair wash day)
6:30 wake up ds
6:30-7 ds and dh alternate who’s in the bathroom showering, one after the other. I’m getting dressed and drying hair in the meantime.
7 ds starts getting dressed, I go down to make him breakfast and flick kettle on for dh.
7:15 dh takes his tea and leaves for work, ds comes down for breakfast.
7:30 I start rounding up ds and chivvying him along.
7:50 ds leaves for school and I go for a walk before work.
9am I log on for work.

Annoying but if not for ds I would not be getting up at 6 for a job I wfh at starting at bloody 9am!!

Badhairday101 · 17/09/2023 19:43

I'm changing jobs in Jan to one closer to home so that will be the end of 5am get ups thank god.

BookHereNoFee · 17/09/2023 19:46

Office day;
Alarm at 6:20
10 mins on phone
6:30-7:00 - make x4 lunches, make youngest dd's breakfast, pack work bag, lay out youngest uniform
7:00 - 7:30 - shower, hair, make up, dressed
7:30 -7:45 - do dd's hair, make bed, lights off, say bye to older dc's
7:45 - leave to drop dd2 off at breakfast club on way to work

WFH day -
7am alarm,
Probably able to do a couple of extra jobs instead of office level makeup/hair
Leave at 8:25 to do school drop off

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:47

@Badhairday101 result!

Natsku · 17/09/2023 19:50

Up at 6, brush teeth and shower and get dressed, then if its not Thursday (Thursdays I start school at 8 so only time for one cup of tea and no breakfast for DS as he'll have it at nursery) I have a cup of tea, then get DS up and ready and give him breakfast and have another cup of tea or two, then out of the house on my bike at quarter past 8 to take DS to nursery and go to school.

I used to do a workout before my shower which made me feel so much better each morning but that was before school started and I've just not been feeling it, would feel so much more rushed in the morning.

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 19:51

I don't bother with packed lunches for dc as in London you get them free for the first few years & I think soon it will be all primary years. One less job!

Kangarude · 17/09/2023 19:53

I wake naturally between 4.30 -5.
If working from home, an hour on my indoor bike. Take DH a cup of tea in bed, shower, dressed and log on for work around 7.

If in the office, 45mins bike, make a packed lunch, shower and leave home about 6.15

Whitecup24 · 17/09/2023 19:56

I downloaded the Happy Place app and I’ve gone from scrolling phone to meditation, tapping, yoga, gratitude and journaling before starting my day. It’s completely changed my mornings.

BakewellGin1 · 17/09/2023 20:01

Up at 6am - try not to snooze as I have my routine timings to allow me to leave on time and arrive at work with time to make a coffee before I start working
Walk downstairs
Use toilet
Get weighed (currently on with weight loss)
Flick switch on kettle and washing machine (loaded night before)
Drink coffee/run bath
Hang washing out
Jump in the bath
Out, dry hair etc
Wake oldest for his shower and flick on Cbeebies for youngest to watch while I get dressed
Empty kitchen bin, spray round bathroom etc
Get little one dressed then either collect grandparent or drop at breakfast club
Check oldest has everything needed for the day and that I have made packed lunch for him.
Grab bag and food for my day at work
Leave the house

Lemonpledge · 17/09/2023 20:07

Drink a glass of water
Mumsnet and coffee
Yoga
Get dressed
Drop DC at school if it's my day
Start work

WonkyDesk · 17/09/2023 20:10

Mon-Fri. Alarm goes off at 6am. On a bad day snooze button is hit and I'm in the shower for 6.10. On a good day, shower at 6am. Downstairs, get makeup on, boil kettle, make coffee and porridge. DH makes coffee too, we try help each other.
Get kids up at 6.20. Their clothes are laid out from night before. Get them to eat and start getting lunches out the fridge and put near the door along with school bags and coats. Make sure kids are dressed. Eat porridge while doing all this and drink cold coffee 😁
Husband helps dress the youngest, we chat a bit, then he dashes off about 6.45am.
Get myself dressed for 6.50. Out the door at 7.05-7.10am to take kids to nursery.
Check eldest has her meds and house key.

Weekend: get up at 8am unless kids have a music group. Bliss.

thevegetablesoup · 17/09/2023 20:21

Intrigued by how a morning routine can be inspirational?

I get up, shower, brush teeth, dry hair, get dressed, drink coffee, see to dc and leave. What am I missing??

LaMadameCholet · 17/09/2023 20:26

Up at 4.45
cup of tea, watch News, clean teeth , chuck clothes on.
Leave for the gym at 5.45 - swim from 6 until 6.45
Shower and dress at the gym, leave for work at 7.15
arrive at work at about 7.40 and eat breakfast there

billysillydilly · 17/09/2023 20:27

@thevegetablesoup I know! An inspirational morning routine for me would be not having to get up to do menial tasks because I have staff.
