The joy of a new notebook

I'm surely not the only one? I was telling dh that I've almost finished my current notebook and that it's exciting because it means I get to start my new one. It's a beautiful notebook - it has a gold, shiny cover - and I've got the nice gold shimmer ink to use in it.

When I said all this, Dh looked at me like I've got two heads, as did one of my dc (the other has a better understanding of all things stationery).

Light-hearted question obviously, but do you get excited by new notebooks?

Stationerygasm

Absolutely- I'm just finishing mine and choosing a new one. I also have some nice new washi tape and some new ink.

Hippywannabe · 20/07/2023 21:56

LTB and invest in more notebooks....

MyMachineAndMe · 20/07/2023 21:57

I've never used washi tape (I consider myself a stationery addict too; I hang my head in shame) but when I started using a fountain pen regularly again I developed an obsession with ink too. I use blue ink in my blue book.

I hear you OP. Love a new notebook. Yours sounds fab.

Inkanta · 20/07/2023 22:02

Looks FAB!

NegativNancy · 20/07/2023 22:02

I love a new notebook and the good intentions that come with it.. The first page is always immaculately written and organised.... Two weeks in and my notes are increasingly frantic and disjointed. By the final page it's a catalogue of disaster!
Does anyone else also reduce the book's lifespan by only writing on the right hand page, BTW?!?

fruitpastille · 20/07/2023 22:05

I love new notebooks but struggle to start them. What to put on the first page??!

Jongleterre · 20/07/2023 22:17

This is my current favourite.

I love them.

A new notebook is a wondrous thing. It must be held, caressed and flicked through and the right pen or pens carefully chosen to accompany it.

My sister writes in green ink and has the most beautiful handwriting and we can shop for notebooks for hours!

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 20/07/2023 22:17

Oh me too... I can't buy them online as I have to see and feel the pages before I buy.... I'm almost at the end of mine and I'm already shopping for a new one

MyMachineAndMe · 20/07/2023 22:19

It's a paperblanks one. I love their designs.

I'm the opposite @NegativNancy in that if I'm enjoying using one I write smaller and 2 lines for each printed line to make it last longer. The closer I get to the end though, the more rubbish I write in order to fill it up!

I love a good notebook myself! Luckily my friends also are notebook addicts too. 😊

Aquamarine1029 · 20/07/2023 22:23

😍 It's gorgeous 😍

I am obsessed with notebooks. Always have been. They are one of my most favourite things on earth. I have a few that I have never used because they are far too pretty. I know, it's madness.

SoCentralRain · 20/07/2023 22:23

That is a thing of beauty, OP.
Love a new notebook.

MyMachineAndMe · 20/07/2023 22:25

I would love to go notebook shopping with someone who shares my obsession!

@fruitpastille if you can't think what to write in the first page, skip it and go to the 2nd or third page instead.

Stationery shopping def can't be rushed and it's so easy to be fooled by a pretty cover only to find the paper is thin and too absorbent! I like the paperblanks books because I like their paper.

Love, love, love a new notebook, but hav terrible handwriting and zero creativity, so can't make them beautiful, sadly.

Tarkan · 20/07/2023 22:27

I'm obsessed with notebooks. I'm about to start the advanced creative writing course at the OU later this year and despite the fact I know every single thing I write will be on my Chromebook, I still feel I need to buy a new notebook because of it. I know it will take me months until I find the perfect one that I will never write in.

MyMachineAndMe · 20/07/2023 22:30

The beauty is in the terrible and changeable handwriting; it makes it more personal and unique than a printed page.

I had a collection of a few unused ones and forced myself to use them before allowing myself to buy any more. I felt guilty for not letting them live up to or fulfill their purpose by leaving them empty so started writing a daily diary. And then fell into the trap of buying new inks!

I have a box of beautiful notebooks that I just can't bring myself to use because they're too special! I use basic notebooks from the works or Poundland instead.

Tinytigertail · 20/07/2023 22:32

I have sooo many notebooks, I can't stop buying them. Each new purchase is the one that's going to change my life Grin

LollipopViolet · 20/07/2023 22:32

Starting an Open University course in October and am very excited that it means I can go stationery shopping!

What is washi tape and what do you use it for?

mastertomsmum · 20/07/2023 22:34

I love them, I also have one with plain pages for sketching

There are few joys as great as a brand new notebook Smile

Does anyone else only write on the right hand page of a notebook? I never write on the back of a page 😳
