The joy of a new notebook

I'm surely not the only one? I was telling dh that I've almost finished my current notebook and that it's exciting because it means I get to start my new one. It's a beautiful notebook - it has a gold, shiny cover - and I've got the nice gold shimmer ink to use in it.

When I said all this, Dh looked at me like I've got two heads, as did one of my dc (the other has a better understanding of all things stationery).

Light-hearted question obviously, but do you get excited by new notebooks?

(I’m so pleased that this thread is now active again)

The photos really don't do them justice, but I managed to find these at 50% off in my local papeterie and I am in love 😍 . Its like black dragon skin with rainbow shimmer.

They look beautiful. I may now be on the Claire Fontaine website looking at their teachers' planners...

Wow that's amazing! At £84 it is massively out of my range though.

Can you afford it? Of course you don't need all those lovely inks, but as you say, it is beautiful 😍

My name is ChristmasLightsLover and I am a stationery addict. Today I bought myself 80 quids worth of pen refills and notebooks in Muji with my birthday money.

Here is Exhibit A.

Don't be too hard on yourself @ChristmasLightsLover - we'll get through this together - everything is going to be OK.

larkstar · 10/10/2023 16:48

i.e.... it's going to be all write.

shadypines · 11/10/2023 10:56

@ChristmasLightsLover can I ask what you get up to with your haul?!

ChristmasLightsLover · 11/10/2023 12:44

@shadypines Are you my DH? Wink

This stash should see me through for a few months. I work in marketing / comms and am a hundred years old so I like to write stuff down before typing it up.

Am also menopausal. Brain fog has amplified my need to write lists to keep on track. I use the notebooks for the to do lists. Use one every three weeks or so.

This time I've bought different nibs / thicknesses of pens too. Whatever I don't settle on using will be gifted to people in the office as 'prizes' for doing stuff.

shadypines · 11/10/2023 12:58

Lol, if he's anything like my DH he's asking because he's worried you are spending money on frivolous enjoyment rather than an interest in what you do with it!

MyMachineAndMe · 11/10/2023 16:59

Dh used to work for a company selling stationery to businesses and the public sector. It was amazing because he'd come home with a whole range of freebies, including stuff that wasn't even on sale yet. I was secretly gutted when he packed it in!

Pen refills are a great idea - cheaper, easier to transport and not as much plastic.

I currently have a notebook on the go for lists: my wish list, present and activity ideas, books I've read, series/films I want to watch, recipes I want to make.

Another on the go for tracking weight/health/food and exercise and reflecting on how I'm feeling.

A work notebook always on the go for ideas, things to remember.

Another for day to day to dos.

I use washing tape to decorate pages in my diary or make headings. And stickers!

Love a good notebook.

😂 one of my siblings has started an access course and does the same!

@LadyLolaRuben I hope you manage to find some that you love. Where do you keep your used books btw? I'm running out of space on the bookshelf, in the drawer, on another bookshelf and in a box...

Sorry only just seen this comment. Came back to the thread to see if there were more lovely posts.

I keep my used notebooks like you on a bookshelf and in a cupboard in my loft room/office. More personal ones - journal in bedroom.

Mintyt · 14/10/2023 09:02

@PatienceOfEngels what tape do you recommend please

PatienceOfEngels · 14/10/2023 15:31

@Mintyt whatever tape you like! It's about the design for me, not a particular brand. I'm not in the UK so not really worth me recommending any retailers from my country but before the EU changed their import laws I sometimes got some from Kawaii paper shop in Hong Kong. Etsy also has loads of options. Now I tend to look for stationery shops who have a good selection.

LaChatte · 14/10/2023 18:31

I don't recommend PaperBlanks tape, the patterns are beautiful but it tears really badly coming off the roll.

MyMachineAndMe · 14/10/2023 18:37

@Mintyt I bought some rolls from Amazon and I like them, though I'm most likely not using it properly!

I rarely shop in Tesco these days - has anyone seen a Paperchase section in one of their stores yet?

Tarkan · 08/11/2023 09:40

Our Tesco is a smaller one that's a pain to get to for me but I'll go have a look. It would be nice to even have a small section since I had to travel for Paperchase beforehand anyway.

If anyone finds one then please take pics. 😁

MyMachineAndMe · 08/11/2023 15:51

There isn't any sign of one at the Tesco closest to me but that's only a superstore; there's a much bigger one about half an hour away so I might make a special trip there soon. I used to love Paperchase!

Guiltyfeethavegotnorhythm0 · 08/11/2023 16:13

If you go onto Tesco website they have pictures of all the Paperchase products saying coming soon .

DilemmaDelilah · 08/11/2023 18:14

I have asked for one for Christmas. I will use my very favourite purple Papermate Inkjoy gel pens to write in it. I plan to write my thoughts about my cancer journey....
