My job involves some tasks that I really don't like doing. I'm pretty sure I'd be facing a disciplinary if I failed to turn up for work on Monday because the schedule has one of those tasks on it

Notonthestairs · 16/06/2023 13:24

Jake Berry complaining his free speech is being denied by the Privileges Committee suggesting that they might investigate MPs that harassed or abused Committee members.

He suggests the Committee is blocking a debate on the report.

Overlooking that there is an actual debate happening on Monday in Parliament. And that he's been interviewed countless times in the last 24 hours and given a story in The Times.

Looking at my Sky News and BBC News apps there's barely a mention of Johnson there. The story's moved on already. Sure it'll be back on Monday. Not sure how long even readers of the Daily Mail are going to be interested in hearing from him for long. Let alone Westminster and the rest of the world.

Hmm. BJ urging moderation? Expect those expensive lawyers have pointed out that fees and damages for defending a libel would not come out of taxpayers pocket and even arch-fan Bamford might baulk at the prospect. Perhaps the Speaker will do his job and reprimand the abusers of the committee members.

DuncinToffee · 16/06/2023 14:04

bwahahaha

Shock horror. ACOBA say they have not received an application for advice and will be writing to Johnson, following reports this morning that he is imminently taking up a new role as a columnist at the Mail.

He's really not a fan of voting is he. 🏃‍♂️

Only when it’s for him.

Exclusive: An Australian travel firm has been quietly handed a £1.6bn contract covering the UK’s new asylum barges, as well as other accommodation and "travel services"

The two-year contract was awarded directly without a competition

If Corporate Travel Management rings a bell to you, it's probably because of its previous handling of Covid quarantine hotels and travel testing

Several MPs raised constituents’ poor experiences in parliament, with one saying that contract “avoided due process or competition”

Notonthestairs · 16/06/2023 14:39

£1.6bn for 2 years?

And as it's extending an older contract I suppose they won't count it within the (as yet undisclosed) costs of the illegal migration bill.

Imagine if he'd put this much effort into attending Cobra meetings, rather than writing his book.

Only one book? Slacker. Nad's written loads.

NEW: Boris Johnson did break the rules AGAIN by taking up his new job with the Mail.

Angry statement from ACOBA say ex PM only told them 30 minutes before it was announced 😬

"An application received 30 mins before an appointment is announced is a clear breach."

7 years ago today, on 16 June 2016, Jo Cox MP was tragically murdered in her constituency of Batley and Spen while on her way to meet constituents.

Oh, sad. RIP Jo.

And Russ Jones’s week in Tory has also arrived

https://twitter.com/RussInCheshire/status/1669732513407811585?t=OsIGKvch0rUBBSufUSKMcg&s=19

By any standards, it's a pretty hectic #TheWeekInTory, and it's been a battle to get this down to a readable size.

If you like this nonsense, consider buying my books (links at the end). Or just retweet, or whatevs.

Excited to see which awful Tory donor is benefitting from this. Or Rishi's wife maybe.

Efacsen · 16/06/2023 17:13

Well that was quick

Mail online publishes it's first Johnson column at 5pm

It's apparently about his attempt to lose weight with a weight-loss drug - unsuccessfully

StormShadow · 16/06/2023 17:16

Riveting I'm sure.

I had a knock on the door earlier this afternoon. It was a Lib Dem canvasser. They're not hanging about, are they? 😂

Are they allowed to do that before she has resigned properly?

They delivered a questionnaire for us to fill in. Which local issues are important to us, that sort of thing.

She can't even resign properly, can she? Maybe her publishers haven't got back to her yet. 😂

I got that too!

It's like bloody origami and requires sellotape. Or an envelope.
