Peston

As I say, I can think of at least one more MP resignation in sympathy with Johnson. But maybe late today or tomorrow. The more they are spaced out the more damage they do to Sunak

Notonthestairs · 10/06/2023 14:19

Peston is hinting that there may be one more resignation.

Fascinating watching those that were turned down for honours resigning before the end of their term & causing problems for their party and constituents.
It's almost as if public duty doesn't matter at all.

Alok Sharma was the other one on that list

pointythings · 10/06/2023 14:26

Stamping your little feet because you didn't get a peerage from your useless friend is so playground. You should only get a peerage if you've actually been reasonably decent and competent.

Problems for the party, yes, but I'd say some are doing their constituents a favour by fucking off.

Didn't Priti Patel get one? 🤔

pointythings · 10/06/2023 14:53

@itsgettingweird well, quite. I doubt there's a single person on that honours list who merits one. I'm even in doubt about his hairdresser, because although they have had to heroically put up with his shit, they weren't actually very good, were they?

DuncinToffee · 10/06/2023 14:54

Nigel Adams was the so called “ big dog” who lent his name to “ operation big dog” - the plan to save Boris Johnson from resigning as PM.

lol

He's got a hairdresser? Surely some mistake.

Quite interesting to look back at the very first of these threads. It took a long time to get to this point!

"One Tory MP sums up their feelings about Boris Johnson & his allies triggering by-elections: "Unbelievably fing selfish. What a bunch of cs."

And on Johnson himself, adds: "I always thought he’d be back as leader/PM. Part of me wanted that to happen. He’s dead to me now."

Wow, a Tory MP suddenly realising what we have all known for years.
Why didn't they think he was selfish previously, was that because it meant they could keep their job?

The Electoral Commission published a new batch of pending party registration applications today, which included one National Conservatism Party…

National Conservatism Party sounds absolutely targeted at the UKIP/Get Brexit Done/We stood alone in the war and can do so again/Britain is a Small Island fans.

NatCs how delightful.

According to the Express, Zahawi 'on point' of quitting with Sharma '50/50' and two others 'ready' to go

How is Zahawi still an MP?
Is Sunak so weak that cheating on your taxes is not a reason for being removed as an MP?

pointythings · 10/06/2023 18:15

How many byelections will it take before Sunak says 'fuck it' and calls a GE?

Knowing this lot it will take for them to be close to or lose their majority.... when they literally can't govern

StormShadow · 10/06/2023 18:34

Yeah, I can't see why Sunak would want to call a GE when they still have a functioning majority. Nothing in it for him. This is his one and only chance at being PM and he's barely had the job half a year.

pointythings · 10/06/2023 18:52

The thing is that they can't govern and majority or no, they aren't functioning. Then again this is the Tories we're talking about, so expecting them to have enough self awareness to realise this is a big ask.

Exclusive w/ @ShippersUnbound & @cazjwheeler

  • Privileges committee considering a 20-day suspension before Johnson quit - sources
  • Johnson, on being told recently gov would not whip Tory MPs, said 'I'm f***'
  • Briefing war over Johnson/Sunak meeting

https://twitter.com/harryyorke1/status/1667582578293981188?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Apparently Johnson is planning more 'journalism' and tv.
He's also written his autobiography which explains why he's been to busy for Parliament.

What is awful is that the members of the Privileges Committee have been offered extra protection this weekend because of threats to them.

OP posts:
Notonthestairs · 10/06/2023 19:12

It looks like the extra information about Chequers is what may have finished him off.
Also they believed he lied when giving evidence to the Committee - I think the whole of the country thought the same.

So many must have known about it Angry

It's probably all in those notebooks and whatsapps
