Princess Kate..... frumpy clothes?

I was looking at some pictures of Kate before she got married. She looked stunning, had style, was really chic and sexy.
Now she looks quite frumpy. The pink dress she wore at the Chelsea Flower show looked better on her mum, because it's a dress for a middle aged woman! WHY is Kate forced into dowdiness? She looks great in trousers and well cut jackets. She's a beautiful woman, are 'they' concerned she might look a bit too good and not be taken seriously? It's like queen Elizabeth. She was beautiful but her clothes were dreadful. Obviously this is my opinion but I'd like to know what others think.

I think her clothes are on the whole, so bloody dull.

Plus she has a really long body and what she chooses to wear she chooses make her body look even longer, so to me she looks out of proportion.

I've just googled the CFS dress,it's lovely and entirely appropriate for the occasion.

I googled it too and it's not that bad but she's got one too many buttons find up. There are no doubt royal rules but it really does make her look a bit dowdy compared to most women her age.

Agree, PW is also a frump but he's less attractive so feels like less of a waste.

Her dresses always seem to be a little bit too long.

Yes that's it. They do look too long. They cover up her beautiful legs! I don't think she's allowed to look sexy. She's not middle aged. I hope when she's at home and out of the public eye she can wear really lovely stuff.

The language on this thread is awful- frumpy, dowdy, out of proportion.

Yes too many buttons done up! It looked like a silk overall. The pink McQueen trouser suit would have looked great with a black t-shirt or blouse. But all baby pink.....no no no. Dreadful. Can you believe that suit cost £2.5 k? Looked like Primark....

Of course she's middle aged and nothing wrong with that!

Aposterhasnoname · 28/05/2023 21:01

God I wish I looked half as good as Kate, she always looks utterly stunning and classy. She’s the future queen, she can hardly turn up in daisy dukes and a crop top!

ICMB · 28/05/2023 21:01

We don’t owe anyone to be ‘sexy’
it might shock you that some people like modest clothes, myself included. Don’t shame people for their choices

Peverellshire · 28/05/2023 21:04

She's beautiful and quietly classy and stylish. She's also got a model figure, that I suspect she has to work hard for, she was a couple of dress sizes larger in 20s? Although always slim and skin and hair have been overhauled. If your hair looks good, that's half the battle I always think :) Prof blow dries make all the difference.

Thetowelsareallwrong · 28/05/2023 21:07

She'd look bloody amazing in Daisy Dukes and a crop top!!

Elior · 28/05/2023 21:07

All the now frumpy designs were the height of fashion at one time or another. She is really slim and keeps her hair and makeup very classic rather than fashionable. I don't think she can look frumpy on that basis. A bit like a series of old photos coming to life. She likes vintage for the kids too, I have noticed. It is rather refreshing.

Black underneath that baby pink suit?! God no, awful! Orange, turquoise, green, floral - anything but black!

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 28/05/2023 21:16

She isn't an exciting dresser. She always looks appropriate and normally perfectly nice.

Her hemlines are often a bit off.

Her shoes are incredibly boring and repetitive.

I appreciate the restrictions of her position but she could look to Queen Maxima and Queen Letizia who are both older but more interesting dressers.

kerryno · 28/05/2023 21:19

I don't think she's into fashion but it's a bit sad she has to dress so conservatively otherwise the DM readers will get upset!

She's around my age & I don't know any of my peers who dress like that.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 28/05/2023 21:19

Frumpy?

I don't love the pink CFS dress. But it is not frumpy imo.

her clothes are usually quite classic and definitely more formal than whatever the average Brit is wearing. But that doesn't mean she's frumpy....

defi · 28/05/2023 21:20

She dressed really until she joined the royals they've had her dress like an elderly lady.

Justcallmebebes · 28/05/2023 21:23

Nope. Not frumpy at all

Maybe she doesn't want to show her legs to everyone (and the tabloid press).

Maybe she prefers modesty.

It's also possible that does wear what she considers to be "really lovely stuff"...

Ozgirl75 · 28/05/2023 21:23

This one is really nice! Nice neckline, I like the colour and the shoes too.

Princess Kate..... frumpy clothes?
kerryno · 28/05/2023 21:24

I think it's more the styling then the clothes. She can't have relaxed normal hair for whatever reason & her shoes are a bit old fashioned.

The pink dress would look more current with sandals as opposed to wedges.

Ozgirl75 · 28/05/2023 21:24

But this one, imo is just awful. The colour, the neck bow, the sheer bits and the length are all just horribly unflattering.

ElizabethBest · 28/05/2023 21:25

If you look at photos of her off-duty she’s a very, very casual dresser. Her work wardrobe is a uniform of sorts, so it looks nice on her, fits her well, but it’s always going to be unexciting.

Princess Kate..... frumpy clothes?
Ozgirl75 · 28/05/2023 21:27

I assume she probably wants to blend in when she’s out in private and stand out when she’s in public.

kerryno · 28/05/2023 21:27

That’s because she is middle age and also doesn’t want to look like mutton in dressed as lamb by wearing the dresses and outfits she wore in her twenties. Of course, she could probably pull it off, but I personally think she dresses really elegantly most of the time.

You can look stylish in your later yrs without dressing as mutton dressed as lamb 🙄
