What is good in Aldi?

Tempted by the new flavoured teas Aldi are now stocking (Jaffa cake being one!) I am going to go out of my way and do my shopping there on Friday. Are there any goodies people can recommend? What are your favourites there?

Their version of chocolate hob nobs are very good. Also like their lime and basil candle.

Stratocumulus · 16/05/2023 18:26

I like the little pots of strawberry trifle. Not too sweet and there’s often a whole juicy strawberry in the jelly.

Aeriella · 16/05/2023 18:27

Tubs of pate.

Georgyporky · 16/05/2023 18:30

I buy all my laundry & cleaning stuff from Aldi - cheaper & just as good as branded items.
Fruit & veg doesn't seem to last as long as Sainsbo, so I only buy if it's going to be used quickly.
Meat & fish can be a lot cheaper, but there's limited choice.

Their Gold Alcafe instant coffee is the nicest I have bought in ages. Also the Bramwell Ketchup is the closest I have found to Heinz. The Cinnamon buns are also great, buy in a pack of two. The sub rolls are also the closest 8 have found to Subway.

Potato gratin
cheesy garlic bread
mozarella sticks
cheesy hash browns
seeded bread loaf

its all about the carbs and cheese when I go to Aldi!

Always find their fruit to be good quality as well apart from pink lady apples.

QuintanaRoo · 16/05/2023 18:32

Oh, their marmite is better than marmite. It tastes the same but spreads better.

LawksaMercyMissus · 16/05/2023 18:33

Pitta bread!

VisionsOfSplendour · 16/05/2023 18:33

I go to aldi every week, maybe my local one is different but it's just a normal shop, it doesn't have special stuff that you can't get in other places. Do some of them have different stock to other

If you live in my area totally dont make a special trip, you'd be hugely disappointed if you were expecting anything other than a slightly down market not very well laid out shop full of regular foodstuffs 😀

theblackradiator · 16/05/2023 18:36

Almost everything is great in aldi I love it. often things are much better than the big branded ones such as Aldi jaffa cakes are way better than mcvities. Aldi fajita kits etc are much nicer with more flavour than old el paso version. on my last dc now 10 so they may have changed since but I found Aldi mamia nappies and wipes much better and loads cheaper than pampers. can't fault aldi. not tried the tea bags yet though as I love PG but I've heard they are good so I think il give them a go too.

iamnottoofatiamjusttooshort · 16/05/2023 18:37

Tiger loaf rolls !

friskybivalves · 16/05/2023 18:39

Their jazz apples are great.
Red Leicester burgers
Venison burgers
Munchy bars (like those Cadbury crispy snack bars that are meant to make you feel better about eating chocolate and caramel)
Ours had a load of Rose's Lime marmalade in last week. Delicious.
Their own brand night cream. Kind of whippy texture, bit mousse-like. My skin glows with it.
Sultanas and raisins a total bargain compared to other supermarkets
Ditto microwave rice sachets (I'm lazy)
Their Brookdale yogs (thick and creamy ones) are delish.

I have shopped in Aldi many times, but not for about 6 months. It just takes two buses to get there, I was wondering if they had any new things I should try while I am buying those new tea bags!

Fishcakes

My DD also likes they're baby cereal bars, they're next to the nappies

twixwrapper · 16/05/2023 18:46

Kinder Bueno dupes
Chocolate crisp things that stack in a box
In fact all of the chocolate 😆
Salmon wellington
Plant kitchen dupe of Linda McCartney sausages
Fabric softener, detergent, candles and diffusers
Mature cheddar
Strawberries were £1.59 a punnet this week and really good.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 16/05/2023 18:47

Sour jelly beans
Mini chocolate bars
Harrison Gin
Cheap individually wrapped pain au chocolat for lunch boxes

twixwrapper · 16/05/2023 18:47

Ooh the dupe Biscoff spread too, I use it to make Biscoff cakes. They do a crunchy one too now which is like crack.

Allthegoodnamesaregoneffs · 16/05/2023 18:49

Isigny butter is the nicest I've ever tasted.

Big bags of posh prawn cocktail crisps

Oaties, the choc version

Their version of curiously cinnamon.

OnedayIwillfeelfree · 16/05/2023 18:50

I love Dreamies (fake Bounty bars, not the cat treats!) so I hope they still sell those!

NotMyCircusNotMyProblem · 16/05/2023 18:51

Nordpak - their version of Lurpak. Just as good, if not better

Xmasfairy86 · 16/05/2023 18:53

Cinnamon buns
their version of mars is much nicer than actual mars in my opinion
never had bad meat from aldi
yogurts! The thick, Greek or protein ones
and all their version crisps - hula hoops, French fries and monster munch

mynameiscalypso · 16/05/2023 18:53

The tubs of marshmallow brownies. So good.

Mrs1010 · 16/05/2023 18:57

I get a lot of the kids snacks in there- cereal bars, fake buenos, ice creams etc. I like their chilled pizzas, cheese garlic bread pizza, cheesy hash browns and mozzarella sticks. I’ve also been getting their own zero Fanta drink and it’s lovely! I don’t buy fresh meat and veg in there as it doesn’t last as long in my experience but cupboard and frozen bits are all good

moretea · 16/05/2023 18:57

Coffee Stout, I really hope they continue to stock it

Denise82 · 16/05/2023 18:58

I'm not an Aldi shopper, my husband loves it in there but I hate it. But they have really nice cinnamon buns, 2 in a pack absolutely delicious 😋
