What is good in Aldi?

Tempted by the new flavoured teas Aldi are now stocking (Jaffa cake being one!) I am going to go out of my way and do my shopping there on Friday. Are there any goodies people can recommend? What are your favourites there?

Aldi chicken kievs are the best and most garlicky I've tasted.
Their thin and crispy mozzarella pizza is lovely and they do a pot of garlic and herb dip that's just like Dominoes.
Chocolate orange pillows cereal.

Three things we go there especially for

Skin on fries in the yellow packet
Metro rolls
their brand of marmite

All of these from me, plus the Maccies dupe hash browns, their stir fry veg packs, baconnaise/ piri mayo and their own brand mayo.

Ketchup is as good as Heinz imo and their meat is decent.

BordoisAgain · 17/05/2023 19:35

The protein mousse, puddings, milkshake and yoghurts.

Deli meats. I love the frikadellen and meatballs

Cheesy hash browns 🤤

Spicy chicken thigh burger things

Titan/Racer bars

tommyshelbysbunnit · 17/05/2023 19:38

Chocolate! Especially the caramel bar

toodlesofoodles · 17/05/2023 19:39

Oh and beauty wise the caviar face creams, the paw paw and the hot cloth cleanser!

I do 90% of my shopping in Aldi, the other 10% is yellow sticker items from Tesco and M&S.

Are the cinnamon buns in the bakery section, or the freezer section? I can’t be trusted with a box of Cinnabon being delivered, they don’t make it to the freezer!

Bakery section by the bread and croissants 😋 2 in a pack

There really are, warm them up in the microwave and they are second level.

I'm gonna have to get a pack on my way home from work tomorrow and try this 😋 thanks

PrincessHoneysuckle · 17/05/2023 20:51

Lobster and crayfish mac and cheese

Ooh the dupe Biscoff spread too, I use it to make Biscoff cakes. They do a crunchy one too now which is like crack.

This is dangerous for me. I could literally eat a whole jar with a spoon 😑

GracePalmer33 · 17/05/2023 21:00

Nordpak butter (lurpak dupe)
Beans
All their cheeses, especially halloumi (cheaper than anywhere else), Parmesan and feta.
Yoghurts and little desserts all great
Moser Ross chocolate
Instant coffee - there's one that's a good copy of the Nescafé Azera
Icecreams - they have magnum(ish) copies and also Biscoff icecreams which are insane🙏🏻🙏🏻
Bread - there's some lovely sliced seeded bread
Bake in the oven baguettes /dinner rolls
Nuts

GracePalmer33 · 17/05/2023 21:14

The hot cloth cleanser!! It's a dupe for Liz Earle which I've used for years and years but can't justify the price of now I'm on maternity. ALDIs one seems to work just as good and smells the same and is £3... if they discontinue it I will cry.

PamelaPamela · 17/05/2023 21:28

Moser and Roth chocolates. I also like the Choceur bars, especially the milk and white one and also the milk almond one.

PamelaPamela · 17/05/2023 21:30

Oh and Ballycastle Cream Liquer (like
Bailey's but even nicer) especially the Clementine one they do at Christmas or the white Choc one. Don't bother with the Raspberry Ripple. I was v disappointed, tastes like cough mixture mixed with pepto bismal

Marmite27 · 17/05/2023 21:30

Yea to most of these.

We have found that the lemon sorbet goes amazingly well with the specially selected lemon curd Swiss roll.

CurlewKate · 17/05/2023 21:30

Practically everything except bread and baked beans.

CurlewKate · 17/05/2023 21:32

And they usually have more free range chicken than any other supermarket. And interesting frozen ready meals.

BurbageBrook · 17/05/2023 21:34

The 10% fat Greek yoghurt.
Steaks.
Frozen berries of all types.
Individually wrapped 70% chocolate bars.
Giant tub of 100% peanut butter.
The cheeses.

Littlesprouts · 17/05/2023 21:40

Their take on Little Moons mochi ice cream (which I first saw recommended on a similar thread here!)

They sometimes do Waygu beef meatballs as a weekly special and they are delicious.

Now I'm a huge fan of Taylor's toast and jam tea, not so much of their biscuit tea, so I was very eager to try the Jaffa and salted caramel Aldi teas.
In a word, disappointing! The Jaffa has more flavour than the SC, but both are pretty insipid. It's a no from me.
And yes to a PP, you can put milk in them.
Back to my Taylor's for me!

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 17/05/2023 23:19

@AlphaAlpha thank you - I will look out for Taylor’s tea next time I’m in town. Stupid me went to Aldi this evening and didn’t even think - too excited the dreamies were back in stock.
☕️

YouBoggleMyMind · 17/05/2023 23:25

They do an excellent fake San Pelligrino Limonata!

Unbridezilla · 17/05/2023 23:37

For me it's their specially selected butter: so so good. And their specially selected salted caramel cookies, which never make it into the cupboard.

Their pizzas are also good, loads of cheese and their Lancashire cheese is better than most of the supermarkets attempts (ie tastes of more than salty water).

Furries · 18/05/2023 03:16

Their mayo dupe is great. It’s around 89p compared to £3.50+ for well-known brand. Cannot taste the difference really in sandwiches. However, have not been able to make the switch to their ketchup - consistency and taste all wrong!

They do a nice herb-crusted chicken crown - handy here as legs and wings aren’t liked.

Their dupes of biscuits/chocolate bars/ritz crackers are generally good.

Their part-baked rolls/sourdough baguettes are great.

Bacon medallions are a good size.

Always a good selection of wine/spirits at a reasonable price.

Jars of dried herbs are a fraction of branded ones.

Ooh, see I find their mayonnaise really unpleasantly greasy tasting!
